So what do you guys think? Are you excited about how Wyze is moving from not only having cameras, but also now these sensors? Really can't wait to see what all this company is going to make.
I have put a motion sensor outside, covered under an awning so not in direct weather, but the company says they aren’t so just be aware they may not last long depending on where they are put outside. As for the notifications, you’d have to setup two shortcuts to automate it when notifications turn on and off based on time of day. So in a way yes, but it is a little more setup work than just a button.
I enjoyed that, thanks Josh. I feel better prepared to perform the setup process, but what I really wanted to know was how to mount the sensors to a patio door on which the contact points are not flush. They're perpendicular. Also, how to mount them on a garage door. Hoping you make a video on that part of it. Thanks again!
Glad to have helped! So to mount them on a patio door, best way is to just test and see where works. I don't peel the sticker till I've figured exactly where to put them. So if you have the app open to the sensor and then hold the sensors where you think may work, you'll be able to see if it does. Unfortunate, its a guessing and testing game for that. As for the garage door, you can do 2 options, one is to put them on the ground in the corner and the other on the door itself....make sure its out of the way on the ground so you don't run it over. But the other option, and better is to have a hinge system made. So if you have a library that has a 3d printer you can take them a file of a hinge bracket for this exact thing. If you email me I can send you that file....or just send me an email, might be able to make you one. Email is in the About section on my channel: ru-vid.comabout
Hi, Josh, Excellent video. Thank you so much. I always appreciate your honesty in your assessment. 3 quick questions: 1) Can the Wyze sense and motion sensor be used outdoor (such as in the rain)? 2) If my Wyze cam has person detection feature, what is the point of getting a Wyze motion sensor? 3) I understand you can use the Wyze motion sensor to activate a Wyze smart bulb. Can the Wyze smart bulb be used by itself as a motion light? Thanks again.
Thanks! As for your questions: 1: yes and no. You can but it’s not rated for outdoor. 2: the motion sensor is a more reliable. Also you can have the camera be in a different spot than the motion sensor and trigger the camera after the sensor is triggered. 3: I’m not totally understanding this one. The bulb has nothing else besides the light. So it can’t be triggered without something else like a sensor.
Great video Josh. I was also impressed with their size. I did some research on the motion detector. Which is is PIR based not pixel based. So it should only pick up things with heat. It's not gonna pick up the motion of light, trees, or the leaves.
@@GrossTechnology the cam works great. The contact sensors that came were doa unfortunately. I cant get the red light to go on when hitting reset button. Wyze is sending free replacements no returns! I tried reseating batteries but nothin. Maybe the batteries are dead and i can try that but im getting new ones so ill see. Motion sensor works great.
Got mine as well. Yes-TINY!! I’m hoping Wyze adds more functionality to the sensors. For example, my Wyze Cams record 24/7, not just when they detect motion. A motion detection alert just allows me to locate the video on the Playback quickly, so I can check video footage before and after the 12-second alert video. I would like to be able to connect these new Wyze Sense devices to my Alexa-controlled home security devices, such as lights. Right now, all I get are the little alert notifications that something opened, closed, or moved. Will be nice when Wyze offers additional sensors on their website. I have a lot of windows and a few doors to configure. Great video, Josh!
I totally agree, I think that they will only really be able to do this with ifttt integration, but we shall see. Can’t wait till I can order more as well! Thanks again for watching and your comment. I think that they definitely will be adding and expanding these sensors, so will have to wait and see. Would love to see ones with temp sensors or vibration sensors.
Great question, but sadly no. They are working on this but as of right now it is always on. You either have notifications or you don’t have notifications on. As far as outdoor rating, they say that it isn’t, but so far I have a contact sensor and a motion sensor outside with no issues. They are under some cover so not in direct openings so they don’t get rained on. If you were going to do this, I’d say wrap it in either a bag or cellophane to keep it dry.
Would love to see you do a video on how to use IFTTT to have that little Wyze door sensor, or motion detector, trigger an action in Amazon Echo!! I have the Wyze camera and so far, it's been great.
Yeah actually making that video this week, using IFTTT and in the Wyze app to link the sensors and bulbs. Not for an Echo but will look into that as well. Thanks
Yes as of now they only come in white. They had a limited time black one but I don’t see why you couldn’t paint one. As long as you cover the important parts.
Can we get an update on how long the batteries last (how many notifications)? Will you get a notification when the battery needs replacing? I live in Australia, and I’m wondering what (apart from the plug) do Wyze have to change before they can sell internationally?
Well I’ll put it this way, I’ve had my motion sensor a little before they went public and have it in the bathroom, so it goes off all day long, can’t say how many specific notifications but a ton. Anyways, battery status still shows normal. These batteries are quite large so I’d assume they will last a long long time. But I will keep track and as soon as one shows drainage, I’ll update ya. As for international, I think it’s more about cost and regulations to getting into some places. But not really sure.
Gross Technology Thanks for that wonderful reply and you exuberant videos. I just can’t wait until Wyze comes down under. They’re ticking all the right boxes for home automation and security. Thank you again, and keep up the great work.
@@AvocadoAtrocity I know that it doesn't work from my house to the mailbox...sadly, which is about 46-48 feet away from the bridge camera. But to give you an exact number you'd have to give me some time. I remember it would sometimes connect, but not 100% of the time. So I'm guessing they say 50 feet but more likely 40ish. But give me a couple days and I'll get you a better distance.
This is a great video, You remind me of Rick Morranis of Goast Busters. I laughed the whole time watching you. You really should capitalize and mimic more of his actions in future videos. You would be terrific.
Correct, but the camera motion can be set off for a bunch of reasons, so this could stop false alarms as well as for those that don’t have an extra camera to point there you can just have the sensor tell you know if it opens.
Right that’s what I was mind boggled about also. The Wyze cam v2 already has sensor and motion ability so the only benefit if this new product is having more sensors with 1 more capabilities (open/close notifications ). Now if these tiny sensors had their own cameras that would be awesome
Well the motion sensor is actually a different sensor than what’s in the camera. That’s why there are less false triggers. It’s not just motion it’s a PIR sensor.
First off, welcome to the family, and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. Secondly..... you are going to love these! My only issue is that I can’t get more yet. I will say that the range is an issue for me right now, would be nice if they could have an extender but we shall see. Again, thanks for the sub and hope to help you out in the future!
@@GrossTechnology Thanks! I do tech reviews among other types of videos. I like how your channel is narrowed down into the specific tech niche. Who knows, maybe we can collab someday.
The sensors have no mics or anything like that. Just a sensor that either senses motion or open and close. The cameras themselves are two way, you can listen and talk through the cameras if that is what you were meaning.
But the camera does not have a PIR sensor which causes it to be triggered by anything, a branch, a shadow, any movement. But with the motion sensor it can be more precise and set off when a person walks by. So yes the motion detector needs the camera, just as do any of the other items in the sense kit, but it works so much better.
What update are you looking for? Been a busy week at work, but I do have a update on the RTSP coming out tomorrow. Was that the one you are asking about? ;)
Hey Josh, also wanted to tell you that “You Tube” actually recommended I watch your video. Thought you’d want to know Love it Subscribing Now😊 I think you’re gonna make it big Heard it here.. Thank You Josh, Mike
