@Susie Welchman ....I have danced with God too...Since I live alone..I talk to Him a lot and used to close my eyes..ask Him to dance with me and dance...After a few days I gave up..thinking He was not interested in dancing with me and had better things to do..One night I had this beautiful dream where I saw Him dancing with me..every move was perfect and the music was heavenly...there was sooo much of peace and joy...It was then I realised how much He loved to dance with me..and how much he loved me.

I'm not a part of the bethel family but from what I know of them, I'm pretty sure Abi isn't excluding the "fear of God" which you're so right to remind us, is the beginning of wisdom. My understanding is that hearing the voice of God requires discernment - something that involves scripture, community, prayer and worship. I think Abi is speaking to people for whom the "fear of the Lord" has equated to "striving from dread of the Lord." He does often ask us to do things that don't make sense but it's born from a place of reverent wonder, not paranoia that he might nuke us; He's our dad and Jesus is our friend :) just my thoughts

If you take the fear of the Lord as to be scary of God, like He is just watching you and waiting to see you fall, you are really missing the point. The fear of the Lord is about to love and worship God, to love with all you are, not for to win His love, but for being faithful to Him. I do not know if I explain myself? hehe Take the words "Abba Father", that in aramaic culture was an expression to the father, it signifies a close, intimate relationship of a father to his child, but also was a respectful expression. And thats how Paul compares the confidence that we can approach to God. Do you have kids? They arent scare of you right? (unless you were a really bad father) Indeed they love you, they can trust you, even they laugh with you, but also they know you are a figure of authority and they respect you, and as a father you hope that they will be obedient, but if they are not, maybe it will be a discipline, but you are not to stop loving them and take care of them. I wrote like a lot haha hope it will help, and sorry for my english :P

Something that I understood about to hear and discern Gods voice, is that He will never ask you something in a manipulate or selfish way. His voice will ever be patient and loving, thats His nature, He is love. If you think you are hearing Gods voice, but you feel anxious, overwhelmed, terrify, most probably you are not hearing Gods voice. The devil will always want to manipulate and oppress Gods children

Jenn the key is to be so into God that whatever he calls you to is a joy. When you're very close to him, that's when he encourages you and just loves on you. Sometimes we feel like we're too anxious to settle down and have a quiet calm time with the Lord and sometimes we're afraid to step into his presence because we associate him with stress, like fear of failing him. So we'll stay away or keep a distance from him but this leads to more fear. We need to just settle down and settle in and affirm the truth and then begin to pray and commune with God along with getting into his word. Read Isaiah 40 slowly and prayerfully. His presence and peace and joy and clarity etc will come.
