I thought this too!! But I wasn't entirely sure and I couldn't remember which JP song it was, I haven't heard that song in YEARS! Well done for spotting it too!
I'm a sucker for this riff! Will never get sick of it. Here's some others~ 1:29 off Suicide Silence's "Destruction of a Statue" 2:14 off Lamb of God's "11th Hour" (i love how they mix the metalcore riff with their iconic groove touch) Intro to Judas Priest's Electric Eye
This was the riff that taught me as a young guitar player that riffs that sound the same aren't necessarily "copied" and it's fairly easy to come up with a riff that sounds nearly identical to another without meaning to. We've all been there
I always thought of Death as the first instance of that riff, but that Avenger riff is pretty mindblowing! I've never heard that one and that's from over a decade before.
This is a linchpin riff right there. So many metal bands focal a point around that entire sound because that’s exactly what it evolved into. Without that kind of riff we wouldn’t see any of the bands listed above as well as a few others like in flames, famous last words, etc It’s a very important riff for this style 💯 hell that sound is what made me wanna pick up a guitar
I wasn’t expecting it to go back to Death. It’s apparent most metal core uses sort of similar riffage and scales, but that’s interesting to see it go back further than it’s subgenre
@@kaif4572 Fair enough. I guess I was refering more to the image they portray, the lyrics and vocal style which are emotional, and the army of emo fans backing them. Hardcore with an emo twist is how I see em. Worth mentioning that I used to listen to mcr religiously when I was abu 8 so im not hating on them, though I personally find it to be hard to get back into, on account of the cut myself vibes and me being older now. I have more of a fck you attidute as opposed to a sop around why did my gf break up with me attitude if that makes any sense lmao. Still appreciate them in terms of their musicianship, its just not my taste anymore
@@TylerRossow AILD is a piece of Americana... They've been one of my favorite bands since I bought a frail world's collapse t-shirt at hot topic back in the day..and shaped by fire should have won much wider recognition
The version that is closest and earliest is a7f. This the exact reason I started expanding my horizons beyond just metal after a solid 10 year binge lol! After awhile you're just like- yea its good BUT I'm pretty sure I've heard this already. Which isn't to say you CANT do setting new in metal- its just that very few bands make that a priority. Sleep token and architects maybe the last two real heavy bands I got into sort of seriously...
No importa nada, pero tienen que admitir que el 5-7-8 el doble pedal, los breakdowns y los guturales con voces limpias al mismo tiempo es lo más hermoso que me he escuchado, viva el metalcore vieja guardia
7861 by Beneath the Sky has a riff like that as well and so does Deathmask Divine by The Black Dahlia Murder. Kinda crazy how versatile that riff is tbh
