Helps that Taylor is a beast. The only thing that would have made it more generic would have been cleans in the chorus with no abrasion whatsoever, which was one of AILD's biggest traits and one of the things they absolutely popularized, regardless of who invented that. I like the grit in Taylor's 'cleans', and he gets deep as a Hollywood stylist's closet when he wants to.

But again, generic by itself isn't an inherently negative word, it just means that a thing doesn't really stand out from a crowd of similar things. And if that crowd happens to be quality 2000s metalcore songs with meaty riffs, well-executed vocals, and a solid sound, then being generic is a compliment. I don't see why Nik would take offense at the word if it describes what he created perfectly. :)

@@IqbalMunahar ok, obviously not every metalcore song, but all of the generic bands that stole as I lay dying's sound, metalcore is a very broad genre with a shit load of different sounds, but I'm mostly just talking abt the stuff where its just 5 guys with beards playing generic 5-7-8 riffs in an abandoned warehouse with just a wall of sound where the singer is just yelling some generic shit about being sad or something with that little half step progression down for the chorus and the bassist is mostly just there so that they can pretend that they have a full band even though they aren't fooling anyone and everyone can tell he's just there so that they can look like they know what they're doing Basically all the bands that took Asking Alexandria's sound and fused it with As I Lay Dying
