Amon Amarth is the iconic Swedish melodic death metal band, Sabaton covered their song Twilight of the Thunder God way back on their album Carolus Rex, I highly recommend checking out both versions (original first, of course)
Biff and Johan trading insults like that makes me smile, I don't know what's wrong with me. "Twilight of the thunder god" is the must hear from Amon Amarth if you never hear anything else. "Raise your horns" has a fun video with lots of fans and metal musicians in it. "Live for the kill" probably my personal favourite, but AFAIK there is no video.
Interestingly, the goading and insulting each other before battle was an actual thing. Saxons and Norsemen faced each other off like UK football hooligans about to get into a scrap. Both historically accurate and works brilliantly in a metal song. Win win.
If you liked this, you really have to try Eluveitie, especially Rebirth and Aidus to start with. Amon Amarth is awesome, Johan Hegg's voice is extraordinary, and at 72, Biff Byfford still kills it!
Amon Amarth are a great band live, getting the entire audience into rowing for "Put Your Back Into The Oar" and Saxon are classic metal from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late '70s/early 80's, so you get two great metal bands on one epic track.

Amusingly the band Saxon who come from Barnsley in Yorkshire were in the historic Danelaw (the bit of Anglosaxon England occupied by the Vikings) You see it in place names. So they likely have some viking blood in them LOL
I just learned of this song a few days ago.. never had heard of Amon either. Was totally dig'n the video and what I could make out of the lyrics.. the back and forth and how they're gonna tear eachother apart!!! Lol! I didn't realize either that was actually Saxon in it. But I recognized his voice and was wracking my brain where do I know this voice from?... it sounds like... it sounds like... but I just couldn't put my finger on it! Lol! And then it hit me like a mack truck.. THATS FRIG'N SAXON!!! LOL! I remember my dad having Saxon records back in the day.. I need to see if my mom still has those! But yes I love the voice from Amon Amarth! Frig'n cool as hell! Watched a few of their videos now. So seeing them pairing up with Saxon to do a song called Saxons and Vikings... Frig'n brilliant!!! I love the contrast in sound between Amon and Biff! Stunning video! Just seeing two bands like this tackle one song together in this fashion blows me away! Just learned of Avatar about a year and half ago. My 9 year old son is hooked on Avatar now and now just since last night he's a Amon Amarth fan!!!! Lol I agree too.. its great to discover new music! I can't wait to see Avatar with my son here in Wisconsin in a few months!
We are gonna see Avatar at Metalfest in Milwaukee.. they got dozens of bands lined up. I just had to look at the lineup and was hoping to see Amon Amarth on there!!! Lol!..
Saxon have a new album coming out Jan. 19, "Hell, Fire and Damnation" so there will be brand new Saxon music to review, check out Power and the Glory, a great classic Saxon track.
Don't know too much about Saxon, but for Amon Amarth you want to check out: Father Of The Wolf, Twilight Of The Thundergod, Guardians Of Asgard, Jomsvikings, Blood Eagle, Hel, First Kill, Raise Your Horns, The Way Of Vikings, Shield Wall, Raven' Flight, The Berserker At Stamford Bridge & Fafner's Gold ... and that's just from the last 4 or 5 albums....
If you like Norse and Viking culture, you found the right band!!🛡⚔ I could recommend you at least 1 song from each of their albums, so you can appreciate how Johan's vocals have evolved so great along the years, but I strongly suggest you listen the ''Jomsviking'' album all along, as it is a concept album which tells a tale in the order of the songs (you'll love ''Raise your Horns'' and ''The Way of Vikings''), and my personal favourites: ''Crack the Sky'', ''Heidrun'', '''Destroyer of the Universe'', ''The Pursuit of Vikings'', ''Raven's flight'', ''Death in Fire'', ''Thousand Years of Oppression'' and ''Wanderer'' (many of them are not the most iconic, but they're fantastic). Love to hear Amon Amarth's front singer, Johan Hegg, together with Biff Byford from Saxon. Their voices fit perfectly together, as well as all the other musicians from both bands.
How the frig did I not know Saxon did a collab with Amon Amarath?! Ok, it only released a month ago, I don't feel quite so bad now, but yeah, I definitely need to catch up on their more recent stuff. Thanks for reminding how great this band is.

Amon Amarth is GREAT band..exspecialy live..Johan Hegg vocal..most special vocal in metal music..if want Vikings to invade your mind just turn on Amon Amarth..no mistake with them..album Berserkers and new The Great Heathen Army is best way to understand why we love this band..
Amon Amarth are so freaking amazing. This song together with this alltime epic band Saxon, was so good. Saxon are the fathers of Heavy Metal, formed in 1979. So we are talking about realy old rocking ppl here 😅 If you want to go on with Amon Amarth, I recommend songs like Shield Wall. Highly underrated. Besides that song, any other song from Amon Amarth is just amazing.
This is actually not the bands' first collaboration, Johan from AA did guest vocals on the Saxon song 'Predator' a couple of years ago. This one's more elaborate, though.

They have been producing albums for over 30 years. They are considered Melodic Death Metal. I agree that the lead vocalist Johan has a great voice. "Twilight of the Thunder God" from the album of the same name is a must but I would also like to suggest for later "Under the Northern Star" from the "With Odin on our Side album. A personal favorite. Despite the fact that these guys are mega-popular, for me they are occaisional music. Overall not a huge fan of this entire Death Metal genre.🫤 Very curious at why you are so worried about checking out new bands? 🤔🤔🤔 Worried that the band will be awful and painful to listen to? I have seen reacters just stop a song and say nope, not for me then fill up the rest of the video talking about what genres appeal and/or why. Everyone processes vibrations slightly differently. You can't like everything.😂 Worried about dissappointing new fans?
