@@16BitOG nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Dont you think what you’re thinking was thought a decade and half ago during the muscle car craze of the mid 2000’s as boomers saw the muscle cars of their youth skyrocket to absurd prices like what millienials see now?
This is going beyond that, we're living in a bubble economy where absolutely everything is treated as an investment opportunity. At some point, someone won't be able to flip their stuff for profit anymore and then 2008 will look like a downtick in the stock market.
The $300k 240z sale was fishy for sure, but unrestored and 20k original miles is impressive. They just dont exist anymore because they all rusted away or were driven into the ground. One of the first japanese sports cars so people hooned them and the sheet metal was thin as tin.
Indeed the metal on these is terrible, you'll make a dent just by looking at it. And the factory rust protection was nearly absent. Basically unless it' stayed in a super dry area, or was barely driven, it should be rusted out.
I paid 9 for a 100% rust free Datsun 260z with a 280z motor and 5 speed. I got really lucky but it’s my second one and a lot of work was put into my first 260 restomod
I'm an S30 enthusiasts and watched the slugfest on BaT for ownership of this car. The reserve was set at $140K, and easily surpassed it. The buyer registered on BaT on the day of sale and has never commented or bid on any other car on the website since. It's strange this 240Z and the owner has vanished off the face of the earth. I suspect the auction was won by D.B. Cooper.
really like Justin. more Justin please. he brings a very genuine, relaxing energy that's a good counterweight to Jeremiah and James who are full "hamming it up for the camera" mode.
CRAZY how far this channel has come since James started making content years ago. ALL of yall rock & Jere always makes us smile with that insane energy
I’ve bought two cars from bringatrailer before this price insanity. The surprise for all these buyers…none of those cars are without hidden flaws, some significant. Good luck!
Used to have an element with the 4 speed auto and fwd.. car sucked at just about everything besides cargo space. Terrible mpg, speed, off-road capability, and seating.. only has 4 seats. Besides being cool to look at kinda they’re lame
2:17 Kinda took the element of surprise away from the Demon when the SOLD price was shown at the beginning 😅 Edit: also the Fiero at 4:46 Edit #2 also the Volvo at 11:21
Thankyou for doing one of these on the actual sale price, not the advertised price. Too may stupid media reports of "ITEM X sold for $1000,000,0000 !!" Then you read it was just the advertised price. Great work as usual Donut
i love the vibe of the donut crew. they all seem like good dudes and funny as hell. Jeremiah's so wholesome and adorable 🥺 and nolan's "you people have too much money." sent me lmfao
From 2019-2021 I lived across the street from a 711 where that exact Dolorean, with the exact identical mods, would regularly be parked, usually in front and backed in. Customers walking in and out would consistently take pictures with it. Car was amazing, the level of detail in it was museum spec. Always assumed it was an employee’s or the owner’s car. It had plates that read “outatime”, but if I remember correctly they were New York plates. May be possible the owner reregistered the car in FL with the same plate tag line. This same 711 was notorious for credit card theft, I alone got hit twice and it was always from inside, at the register. Every day the local nextdoor app would pop off with post of people who had been defrauded from it. It even made the news.
7:18 My uncle has had one of those in his garage for my whole life, and I'm nearly 30. I can't remember exactly what he said is wrong with it, but I think it's still pretty fixable. Apparently back in the day him and my dad both had one and used to race a bunch.
Someone near me had a back to the future replica delorean and the plate read "outoftime", they were parked at the DMV. Later saw the same one up for sale. It was selling for 69k. Datsun 240/280s sell for big bucks by me. They are considered classics and some were used as circuit racing cars. Stingrays and datsuns are my favorite.
@@pleasedontwatchthese9593 true, but most of the cars on the video dont have it so you could also play the game...that ruined it for me, the Demon also had the price there.
Same. It blows my mind how much money these mysterious rich people spend. I mean I was shocked to see a Datsun go for $310k. I mean, it was basically very very original no respray no restoring no nothing just 21k miles. I really thought that it’s gonna be like $70k but man $300k holy 💩
Back in the early 2000s, you could buy a MKIV 6 Speed TT supra from Toyota dealerships used for $35k. In 2008 I bought a 1994 N/A 5 Speed Targa Top MKIV Supra for $11k from Toyota, still have the paper work.
@@ps.6023 Supra sold like shit while in production and cars with the same engine are all under $10k. Mk4 should be no more than a c5 corvette, beyond overpriced. Nobody gave a damn about them until they were gone.
@@SpriteIsSpicyWater silly rice boy it sold to those who could afford it. It was during a time when people wanted more SUVs those cars are also not sports cars and it is not just about the engine that makes it desirable. sorry its not affordable to you, maybe if you got a job you can. lol nobody cared about them till they were gone silly ricer they were just as popular when they were in production, you weren't just born then.
I work at a facility that stores that green 1971 240Z for the new owner. We all had near the same reaction when we found out what it sold for. That said we see a lot of cars, and this Z is as clean as you could ask for.
Can we get a Justin appreciation chain? Just joined a few months back and fits right into the crew super chill and relaxed guy but full of personality, would love to see what he would look like hosting his own series
I test drove the 1st 240Z to come to Dothan, AL c1970. Sticker was $3535. I liked almost everything about it-except a droning sound in the roof at highway speed. Instead, I bought a new 1969 Volvo 144S. Loved it, sold it to my brother 'cause he really wanted it. I then purchased a slightly used 1974 Volvo144S for about $4000. There was an adjustment between the dollar and the Swedish Krono, and I sold it 6 months later for $4800. One of the few cars I didn't lose money on. Don't get me started on my RR Silver Cloud.
And here I wonder how there’s a garage by where I live that all 7 dudes there have 240z :| however I’ve never actually seen them driving around so I wonder how they fuck they get those to and from their garage 😂
@@msw7021 It's the materials quality that's junk, the car itself is actually quite nice for its age. But it ages...so bad. That's why they've gone extinct
In my most honest opinion, they only look good when people mess with them. Otherwise a pretty eh lookin car with its weird ride height and ugly ass wheels
When Jeremiah says “you don’t see many of these square bodies” I couldn’t help but laugh. Between myself, my immediate family, and my friends I’d be willing to be we own close to a dozen square bodies 😂
@@mrbuttons1243 This. Granted BringATrailer is national. And majority of the existing SB's are a lot rougher cosmetically.. I'd bet there are FAR more squarebodies in the south, midwest, probably all over aside from big city/coastal areas. Just like LA prob has WAY more 80s-90s JDM vehicles than say Kansas.
I love these videos, please keep them coming. Me and my buddies like to play along and try to guess the price too. With that said, at least three of these didn't have the price hidden, which kind of ruined some of the fun. Please avoid showing the actual price in the video and thumbnail.
Are these actual confirmed purchases? Just cause someone bid that much does not mean they bought it. Bring a trailer sales fall through after auction alot more often than is publicized.
@4:43 I guessed the Pontiac would be worth a lot, more than Nolan, because I've seen kitcar videos with these as a base for a Ferrari replica, or something else. AND THE GREEN 240Z! I was staring at that car like a crackhead. The whole time you guys were talking about that car, I was just chanting $300,000, devouring the pics with my eyes. And I was the closest. That is a damn great car. Such low miles and original paint. THAT IS A TREASURE.
I said $200,000 for the Time Machine replica. I've been watching reviews/reactions of the trilogy. So charming. The engineer part of me would be disturbed if those wires in the greenhouse, weren't actually connected to anything. But it's still nice. I'm more into bikes now, but it would be nice to have a Doc Brown DeLorean replica.
It seems the only tactic that worked in this game is guessing a higher price than Jeremiah, as Justin get 1 point from guessing $1 more than Nolan and Jeremiah. Aside from that... $300K+ FOR A DATSUN? MAN...
This may be a weird request. However I look at vehicles on Facebook marketplace a lot. I just bought a Chevy s10 this past year and am slowly making it my own. I am learning about vehicles and sometimes I go on Facebook marketplace and read peoples descriptions about their build and get so lost. Idk if you guys are able to do a video on something like that. ? Appreciate you guys. Your videos have helped me so much and excite me to get goin on my truck!
Yeah, I think the idea was that we the audience would know, and the suspense for us is to see how close our boys get. But yeah--they should hide the price from us, too.
What the hell are you pathetic liars talking about...ONLY the volvo showed the price and even then it wasnt accurate. Yall need to stop crying about what doesnt exist
10:54 I guessed 150,000 Euros on it, which is 158,761 dollars. I knew it was gonna be expensive, these cars are crazy expensive, and over here, even a stock one costs almost 100,000 Euros already. Talk about not getting my dream car.
ah yes the car "over inflation" price vicious cycle : bad/ average /nothing special car(take for example the AE86) >>> gets included in some tv show or any entertainment media (anime in this case) in the main story (the protagonist car in case of the AE86) >>> tv show/anime/ wound up as a huge success (initial d literally helped shape modern car culture) >>> fans that are illiterate when it comes to vehicles storm the market to buy their "favorite car" which causes the demand to reach the roof >>> prices sky rocket >>> aforementioned illiteracy / tuning and modifying causes maintenance crisis >>> actual good condition stock cars become rare >>>"mint condition" cars appear >>> the supply / demand balance gets crazier >>> what was a normal every day car becomes an auction worthy collectors treasure >>> donut media makes a video about this topic >>> Nolan becomes thunderstruck >>> pavlov neuron activation >>> dopamine hit >>> happi **achievement unlocked : How Did We Get Here ?** * this is just one simple example of how crazy economy can be / media influence can affect it.
Big shout to having Justin on the team. He's awesome. We get a bit jaded with the regular guys and forget how much we really need gear heads on Donut to keep this channel going. Justin really needs his regular show soon, call it Temp For Hire and test car temps at launch for drag races. Sounds silly, but we already watch silly Donut shows. We wear the merch too, cause... y'all do whatever, lol. Ha free promo is whack and I have 2 followers.

I have a 1991 GMC Suburban R1500 that looks practically identical to the 88 aside from 88 being stacked HL and mine being side-by-side. Mine is white and blue two tone, like the 88 model shown, and has a blue interior
After the Cash 4 Clunkers program in 2010, the shortage of cool used cars from the 80s and up soared their prices; the overheated economy in the last decade helped to skyrocket even more, so no wonder that millenials aren't buying any cars today.
I saw the thumbnail and I immediately was infuriated by it. Let me remind you that a 240z is a EVERYONE SPORTSCAR back in the day and should be an EVERYONE CLASSIC today. I own a really clapped out one and I love driving it and thrashing around the mountains in it. But seeing one being sold for that amount of money really breaks my heart. I can legit see the cars that I love and own turning into something that I hate, a collectors caged bird for their own selfish pleasures. I'm sorry, but to whom that buy cars just to look at them and for collection and using it as an invesent and investment only. You are just taking what's us to enjoy for your own selfish needs and I am really disappointed. Also love this series, keep it coming. That's just my rant.
Yeah. How dare people spend their money to buy something that they want! And then they have the gall to enjoy appreciating it by looking at it and as a part of a collection without the need to thrash it around?... Cry about it more.
@@bitfreakazoid by your logic, we should be able to just buy animals from the wild and keep them in your own hold. Which we are able to and if that doesn't say something.
Ok, if you had a pristine 240z or any other "everyone classic" you would be happy selling it for a fraction of the value you could get for it? And the entire reason that good examples like the one in this video go for so much is because they're so rare, there's plenty of clapped out z's floating around that are rusted to shit or have awful mods done to them, but a real pristine condition z is hard to come by.
That Delorean was probably at the Venice car museum I lived near. Also, Honda elements are sought after usually by pet owners and just by people that get the interiors dirty regularly. You can pretty much take a hose to the whole interior.
