Why do we always aim so low..? You say you want an icon movie but your first thought is HBO?? "This has alway been a problem for our kind.. even our DREAMS.. are small" - Marco Inarus
Benji Man! Because he didn't end slavery or the civil war and just thought he was helping by lightening slaves work load, assisting with the Underground Railroad, and becoming a lawyer. If you have knowledge, power, and ability, to stop evil and you sit idly by then you're worse than the people committing those crimes.
Its not like he could have just gone and told the entire world to end slavery or force the south to surrender i mean he could have but that wouldn't have solved the problems if anything it could have led him to becoming like Injustice Superman had good intentions from the start turned into a power mad dictator who will kill anyone who crosses him.
Icon has to be one of, if not THE most underrated and underutilized DC character. This is why I don’t get WB trying to make a movie where Clark Kent Superman is black, when Icon is RIGHT HERE and practically begging for his own movie. It’s really a shame tbh. The most we’ve seen of him in recent years I believe were his brief cameos in Young Justice
+Daemon Blackfyre - Yeah. He's extremely powerful, and shall I say it?... Almost OP! Maybe coach will let him play a little more... Maybe, at least, get a cameo in a live action film or something. Let him come in and ROCK Darkseid with one good hit! 😲 😁
well if he couldn't shack up starbreaker then how could he shack up Darkseid? almost OP? that would mean he is above superman and he is not. I like him though......more than superman to be truthful. I hate the fact that DC acts like their aren't anybody that is more powerful than superman.
Icon is an excellent character that definitely needs more recognition and love. He needed to be involved more in the Young Justice animated series and he also needs to appear on the big screen.
Cuz every iconic character has to be black now. Rather then creating a one of its own or giving a already know superhero like icon the spotlight they’d rather just make Superman black which is stupid
Icon is genuinely a cool character that I'd like to see be introduced into the Snyderverse or have his own show not connected to any pre established universe. Thanks for the video by the way 👍. I now understand Icon more and get his character more in Young Justice
I don't want icon anywhere near the snyderverse tbh.. I'm a BIG fan of Zacks.. but Milestone &its flagship characters need to get away from DC &WB entirely &do their own thing.. they were their own universe for a long time.. with all the upheaval at WB/DC they'll just get second hand citizen treatment & characters with this much potential deserve better
Lets just say in so many words, Superman is a carbon copy of icon, and from my knowledge of the human body black history and the study of the universe, I think Icon was the first Superman before they even came out with the Superman we have now.... amazing! Just from taking time and learning about Icon, he is now my all time favorite black superhero! ... and when he said alien, I knew right off the bat where this leads back to.
WB executives are a bunch of fools. I don't like calling people names but some people deserve it and they clearly are that. Warner Brothers apparently isn't smart enough to realize that what they could've done is just carry on with Henry Cavill as Superman AND bring in black Superman analogues like Val-Zod,Calvin Ellis and Icon and they could have even brought in a rebooted and reintroduced John Henry Irons(Steel). I'm going to be writing my own comic books in the future and I'm going to have characters of all races and backgrounds(including a character who is basically an Asian Superman and including a character who is basically a black Superman and he'll be like a mix of Marvel's Blue Marvel,Icon and Meteor Man),therefore there will be no need for me to race-change characters. WB doing this is just incredibly dumb and as a comic book fan,I think it's embarrassing, actually. A lot of people would have loved for Icon to get his own movie but instead WB is going to go and reboot the Superman franchise with a black Superman. They're making themselves look clueless when they pull stunts like this.
@@JR-ju3kj My biggest concern is Superman himself in particular. Warner bros for the longest time has not given the character the respect and representation he deserves, he is always getting pushed aside so batman can get all the spotlight and attention while all superman does is be an absolute jobber who does little to nothing else especially within his mainstream media portrayals. Now they apparantly want to do away with the traditional superman because they don't know how to make him relevant which really is their own fault for undermining for so many years and just have a unoriginal alternate universe version take his place and disrespect the fans of the character. The real tradgety i can predict right now is once this movie bombs at the box office, the executives are going to blame the ip for the faliure and more bad marks are going to be crossed onto supermans name thanks to their incompetence. Alot of people are officially starting to consider Superman as the most disrespected character in all of fiction.
I agree bro warner bros are so stupid! many characters to make great movie, icon, Mr majestic, Orion, big barda, Mr miracle, highfather, raven, deathstroke, val zod, captain atom, plasticman, lobo, (nubia woman woman black twins sister), atom, zatanna, New gods, green lanterns Corp, despero , mongul, phantom strangers, braniac, steel, eradicator, superdog, superpets, bizzarro, hawkman, hawkgirl, powergirl, supergirl, etcc
If Icon ever gets a televised series I hope it's produced and cast in a way that gets the longevity of shows like smallville, The flash or stranger things which needs another season asap.
After discussing the fact that Superman admitted that no one had never hit him (including Darkseid) as hard as Icon, you only giving him a rating of 8? Come on man' !!!!! Really???
I've heard this sentiment a bit lately! LOL! On power alone he'd be a high 9 or 10. Hands down! He just hasn't had enough of an impact on the overall DC Universe! I admit that this isn't his fault though! I blame writers for keeping a star player "on the bench!" If he gets more playing time, then he'll easily step up on my rating scale!
New Sage he really hasn't affected the status quo, and it's a shame. With so many new readers coming to comics ,the publishers are beginning to bring in some of the badass obscure characters hoping to jumpstart a fandom.
Plus DC doesn't have the full rights to the character they have to pay out Milestone Comics to even use him. We were lucky to even see him and Rocket in Young Justice. I wish DC could just buy out Milestone and use ALL of the Dakotaverse characters or hell even Marvel. Though I would want Marvel to actually get good writers not lazy ones to write the characters. If DC was able to get Milestone to let them have the rights to the characters you would see a lot more of Icon and Static Shock in comics.
I was a huge fan of Milestone Comics back in the early 90’s. Icon is a great character and it’s really awesome that after Milestone ran its course that DC brought Icon into the fold making him a part of the DC Universe proper. I also really liked KoBalt too. He was a really kickass brutal vigilante in the Dakota Universe. I would love for you to do a superhero breakdown on KoBalt. I’m sure not too many people know who he is so I think it would make for a great video. As always I love your content and your detailed videos never disappoint! Great work!💪🏻
Been coming back to this breakdown so much I'm hoping for a show or film on Icon one of the toughest DC heros in the league and his story and ability is incredible.
@The Objective Theist he's not a poster boy of superman although they have similar basics of power's don't think you know what cultural appropriation is but I'll educate you on it sometime
@The Objective Theist here I'll give you the short part cultural appropriation is taking a culture using it not paying homage and claiming it as you're own it can't possibly be used in this because icon is or could be a copy of superman but there are plenty of more literal copys of superman seems lile you're calling it cultural appropriation because the character is black which has nothing to do with the term superman does have a fan base but culture is something in you're sould passed down gro. Generation to generation it's in your everyday life i don't see how a character javing similarities can be that
Loved the write up on this largely unknown Superhero. He (and Rocket) are easily two of my favorites. He is quite a character as is Rocket. You did a GREAT job. I found it interesting that as I read their comics he is a registered Republican with rather conservative views. As he interacted with Rocket, though - he changed his views somewhat because of her influence. Rocket - being a liberally-minded 16 year old youth had a profound and positive influence on him and they went back and forth with their views in the Comics. I found their relationship to be more of a Father - Daughter thing than anything else. You should include that he CAN be damaged / hurt. If I recall, the villain / hero also known as Payback slashed him with his claws and nearly killed him in one of the Icon issues. He and Payback would eventually go on to become friends. Payback was one of the "Bang Babies" that was produced along with the Blood Syndicate and a few others from the Dakotaverse. I also recall that he was defeated by the Blood Syndicate at least once while he was engaging them. If I recall it was in the issue where Rocket is standing over him trying to protect him. Icon - during an engagement with Superman - even stated that he was "Physically Superior" to him, if he held back. I am assuming that Icon meant he'd have to fully utilize his Positron Manipulation to enhance his powers to be on par with Superman. The "naysayers" to Icon would state that he is "TOO OP" to include on the Big Screen. Would LOVE for Warner Brothers / DC to make a Movie about him and Rocket. I really don't think that the late (and GREAT) Dwayne McDuffie meant for him to be stronger - better than Superman. Speaking of McDuffie - he would go on to produce / write many episodes of the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited series. He showcased Green Lantern John Stewart in a POSITIVE and POWERFUL light. Iocn is EASILY Superman's equal. As he should be. Again - GREAT write up on him and THANK YOU. If you haven't already - please do a video on Raquel Irving / Rocket.
Icon was always one of my favorite characters I always thought he was really cool I hope in future Justice League stories he gets more of a role as a team leader
Wow that is impressive. Superman confessed that no-one has ever punched him that hard including Darkseid? That is astonishing. I never knew that he was so powerful. I agree with your rating of 8 and it's truly nostalgic.
Cook video thanks for sharing. Don't be surprised if he's brought to the silver screen with the success of Marvels Black Panther. DC gotta take their time and do it right. That's plenty in his bio to work with. We live in the world of the "pre prequels! They could give the fans a trilogy!! I enjoyed both versions of Watchmen and I'd never heard of those characters before. I think it's about time they do something new and exciting! Luke Cage comes to mind as I'm writing this. This is a good opportunity for DC to make cinema history.
@@NewSage Not sure mainstream audiences wouldn't be confused by the notion of a Superman level character that not only tolerated slavery, and then the Jim Crow era afterward, but participated in it on the losing end. I know I am. Now, I don't know Icon as a character and I'm sure that the creators have written some kind of workaround to this obvious problem, but you have to admit, that is asking for a lot of suspension of disbelief from the audience.
found a ICON issue 1 in my local comic store. worth picking it up. first time I knew about Icon I Blind By a superman comic it was the world's collide issue. awesome review
+kingmoose - 😅 I'm glad my madness is starting to make sense for you now! But... You know that means you might be going mad too! 😂 Nah... Have a good one!
He was part of the under ground rail road .he gets a 10 . not for his physical strength but for his integrity to do the right thing for the right reason when no one's around. Anyone who fights for freedom of self gets a 10 in my book . Becasue of what he stands for they won't make a movie out of him . His back story would cause a uprising. Srry folks no movie for icon smh
Blue marvel has anti matter powers, has a blue costume, is leader of the ultimates and I visibly older than icon. So all black people look alike even in comics?
Im not sensitive. Just know whomever i am exactly talking about. Characters having the same physical attributes doesnt make them the same. Thats imbecile way of thinking. Blue marvel is mutate. He is generator and reactor of anti matter. Icon gains abilities from his genetics. You are dumb. Val zod and guardian prime are the same to you, because they both dark skin superheroes with capes. But you are definitely a troll. I posted that comment a year ago. You definitely wanted some attention. Lol. Kids
You remember recently when everyone was going crazy cause dc was trying to make Superman black. My first thought was Icon is essentially your black Superman. Just give him a movie instead of trying to black wash Superman.
Great story! He reminds me of Dad when I was his side-kick, "The Kid". I have a few copies of ICON, but not all of them....yet. Dad was one of those Lone Ranger junkies who actually WATCHED the radio. I wonder if he knew the real Lone Ranger was black.....ah, the wild wild west. He was from KCMO, Mom's mother was born in Wichita. And he married her in the mid 50s when he earned his first Master's degree in Poly Sci. We were both systems analysts.
MrMrgrey37 Sentry's overall powers include bringing people back to life and altering reality way more powerful than ICON . .thats why he gets a 10..alot of heroes have Superman level strength and energy powers Blue Marvel cant alter reality or bring people back to life neither can Superman..only Superman 1 million is on that level if not more so because his overall powers are immeasurable but you have Shazam Hyperion Martain Manhunter and many others who are similar in physical strength and durability but dont rate the same
So many characters like Icon that DC doesn't use, they could stop making villains for Batman and Superman then just give them to Icon to develop the character instead
All that aside he is physically strong as superman. And as old and smart as the Martian manhunter and able to admit waves from his body also did he defend the Justice League during Young Justice the reach chapter 🤔 and also able to hit harder to then darkseid
No he said that was the hardest he has ever been punched at the time Darkseid is a literal god and A God > random alien when it comes to strength and power. This here is Darkseid effortlessly slapping Superman aside like he was nothing. photobucket.com/gallery/user/aarons24/media/bWVkaWFJZDo0MzU4OTQ1Nw==/?ref=
I think they're two of the best black Super Heroes ever created! In fact,I think DC and Marvel should tr to make a cross-over between Icon and Blue Marvel. I'm going to be writing my own comics and diversity in comics is very important to me.I agree with Michael B.Jordan,I feel like there can never be enough black(and non-white)Super Heroes in comics AND movies I'm going to have a character who is basically going to be a black Superman and he'll pretty much be Icon,Blue Marvel and Meteor Man all rolled up into one.I'm going to tell the artist to base the character's appearance on Denzel Washington and Sidney Poitier when they were younger. There can NEVER be enough black Super Heroes!
@@JR-ju3kj Wow that’s amazing I really hope you succeed, diversity in comics is a really important and impactful thing, you could really change a little kids life by putting someone in a comic that looks like them, or comes from the same rough background as them. In the future I’d love to do something similar but make a tv show kind of like Justice League Unlimited mixed with 2003 teen Titans mixed with Avatar the last air bender. Take inspiration from those three properties and make a story and world of my own. I’ve been working on the characters and plot for a couple years now I hope I’ll eventually be able to make it happen. And I wish you the best of luck on your journey to!!!
Oh wow what a surprise he has the powers of superman without his weaknesses. Why do people always try to make a OP character? You have to have weaknesses or how are they going to overcome adversity?
@Black Thunder_31 But what are you going to do against an enemy who could take a nuke head on without a scratch who also can lift more than 100 tons while also not needing food or water for extended periods of time and even if you do scratch him his healing factor will get rid of that it would be an impossible fight
Let me say this first... I subscribed to your RU-vid channel not too long ago... and I am loving your video synopsis. Videos are concise, informative, and fun to watch, and your vocal tone is nice. Now, as an avid comic book geek myself... I pose a question to you as you say this often depending on the character you reference in your video. Is it interesting to you that many of these high-level Heroes and Villains have genius-level intellect yet behave in less than genius-level manner? You think being that smart would mean a “smarter” way to handle the situational experience. Just thinking out loud because DC and Marvel include with many of their beloved characters an intellectual factor of the highest order yet few ask themselves, “Is there a better way to handle this situation without massive destruction and large death toll across the locality they are in?” 😂
