This video explores the abilities, powers, and origin of the DC Comics character "Static" aka "Static Shock." From Virgil Hawkins being born in the Paris Island district of Dakota City, exposure to the mutagen called Quantum Juice during the "Big Bang" event giving he and other "Bang Babies" amazing superpowers, learning how to hone his Superconductive Electromagnetic powers as a new metahuman superhero, balancing his teenage superhero adventures with the "Heroes" team in the Dakotaverse and the daily struggles of everyday life, being thrust into the mainstream DC Universe during the events of Final Crisis, breaking free from the influence of the Anti-Life Equation and Darkseid due to his unique resistance to psionic mind-control, possessing the inate genius to intern with the S.T.A.R. Labs organization, to joining the ranks of the Teen Titans and allying with the Justice Society of America as well as the Justice League; Let's take a look at this electrifying DC superhero, and owner of one of the strongest willpowers in all of comic books. This includes a short, canon character biography and my own opinionated "Sage Rating," which I use to give ratings of comic book and science fiction characters.

because he is owned by DC and milestone comic's. they can't come to a deal unlike Spiderman Disney and sony. plus Dwayne is dead so it's even more complex.

As much as I like static its probably for the best that he remains unused. Modern day writers would just reduce him to "hurr durr he black" instead of being the nuanced deep character with cool moments we knew from the static shock show. The Static shock show was very good at handling tough topics in an intelligent way, and they never went ham with the racism stuff. Compare this with the black lightening dumpster-fire of a show made by CW. It reduced a character that many liked to a mindless attempt at pandering. I am black but I would rather not have my race be used as the sole selling point of a show, I want a show about a cool superhero who happens to be black, not a super woke black person who happens to be a super-hero.

But how, can you come with a plausible method? The best I can think of is that since he technically has matter manipulation powers that arrive from his powers and intellect, he might be too much to be controlled in a cursory manner, which would be why he would take time to break free from it. In this case, he would slowly counter it with his matter manipulation powers, in a very artificial manner, with any amount of free will he gets. What makes me think that is that he isn't completely hindered by it, as if he's countering it instinctively. On that note, death stroke's daughter would probably have been freed by his help. And if that's the case, it point to the anti-life equation being inherently unstable and life would constantly try to undermine it, which makes sense, considering how hard it's for even someone like darside to achieve it.

I’d give him a 9 instead of 8, he’s already super powerful but his potential gets realized when he becomes an adult, cited as one of the most powerful heroes in the world during the Batman Beyond crossover episode. Loved that.

Milestone comics were the most refreshing thing to me at the time they came out. Comics didn't have much diversity and instead of changing existing characters they created ones that young people could relate to at that time. If more of the comic book community would have been more open to their ideas instead of labeling them " that black comic book company." They would have been a greater asset of the DC universe. Think about a Justice League with Icon, Rocket, or Hardware and Technique in the group. How about Shazam meeting Static in the cinematic universe. I heard that they are bringing back the Dakota verse characters. Hopefully they will treat them with the respect they deserve.

Static Shock was one of my all time favorite super hero shows of all time. With one of the most versatile and formidable powers a super hero archetype could have, there being no electrical based super hero’s I could remember at the time. To me.... he got to live the dream, that most of us comic book nerds could only fantasize about, or live in our minds. Making him instantly relatable to us fans of the genre.

This is the OG Miles Morales. People can’t have enough of him but when we keep asking for more, DC has a blind eye. He wasn’t in my time, but my moms friends son put me on to him. I watched a few of his episodes on RU-vid and was hyped about it as a kid. I miss the early 2000s 😢.

One of the coolest super heroes that ever ran across a DC comic, and while he is comparable to Spiderman in the whole teen super hero thing, I thought Static was much more flushed out. I would love to see him get his own stand alone film, this is what we would need to launch a truly successful DC cinematic universe (provided they do him Justice)

I believe "Static's" high intellect comes from his ability to absorb energy from computers, and such, somewhat like in "The Matrix." If he needs to know how to fly a helicopter, for instance, his ability to absorb electricity would also include whatever information is carried in the currents from such devices, and that would become part of the electric impulses triggered in one's brain. This is a very good example of a new super hero that was created and developed with his very own standalone backstory making him easily without a doubt an absolutely likeable if not loveable and respected character that fans can look forward to reading and seeing in future story arches.
