I am a both time emergency medicine physician. I am the Queen of the ER. The keeper of the night. The guardian of the sick. And seek respectful passing for those beyond our medical abilities. I embody Hekate. She works through me. I am blessed to be her daughter🙏🏾
@Infinite Possibilities oh sorry i forgot all books are undisputable facts. Theres no books anywhere in the world that arent fantasy or wrong. Think about what you just said lol are you one of these people who see something on TV and believe every word of that aswell? Theres books that say the queen of england is a reptile, does that mean thats true aswell? Lol
It's also speculated that she as a Greek deity was a foreign borrowing, perhaps from Egypt or another conquered land, and just incorporated in their pantheon. Offerings of black dogs were commonly sacrificed to non-native deities, and those were commonplace offerings to Hecate. It's been a while, but I read a great book on her historical and linguistic evolution and the evidence thereof. (Sorry if this is covered in the vid lol, just scrolling comments while listening.) :)
I'm not a Witch, and I don't practice Witchcraft, but I enjoy learning from my Brothers, and Sisters in the Pagan, and Wiccan community. Great video. Hekate is so wonderful.
Nehalennia (a Dutch goddess) is also sometimes shown in triple goddess form, for sea land and sky, although she is most often depicted as a goddess of the sea (her land aspect is more of a fertility goddess, bringing abundance and good harvest, and she is usually depicted with apples to symbolize this; while her sky aspect is more to do with the weather and ocean storms, but perhaps also the stars in the night sky for naviagtion during a sea voyage). Merchants, sailors and travellers would ask Nehalennia for protection on their sea voyages, and it is thought that Nehalennia not only guided the living safely across the sea, but she may have also guided those who died at sea to the afterlife, making her a liminal goddess like Hecate. Nehalennia is also associated with dogs, similar to Hecate. Academics believe that Nehalennia is a Celtic-Roman goddess (from the time when Romans lived in the Netherlands), and we know that most Roman gods have a Greek equivalent, so I often wonder if Nehalennia is perhaps the Romanized version of Hecate.
Love this so much! So much of what you covered was thought provoking and has made sense of a lot of things for me. Hekate is a wonderful Goddess to work with 😊 just last night I did a huge ritual and called upon her to help heal my sick doggo. This morning he really turned a corner. She has had a special place on my altar for a while now and I've been connecting with Her but it's the first time I've called upon her for assistance, boy did She come through ❤
I was just cast as Puck in A Midsummer Nights Dream and in one of his monologues he mentions Hecate. I just recently started working with her and when I tell you I was so thrilled to read her name!
Just a few thoughts. 1. Daggers - associated with her role as Kurotrophos I believe. Figure as one who is associated with child birth the cutting of the umbilical cord. 2. Keys - I think it has a connection to the PROCESSION OF THE KEYS that occurred each year from Lagina to Statoniciea. While the dates are mostly associated to the Roman period the procession probably has an older influence that goes back to the Karian / Carian influence. 3. Hekate did not see Persephone being taken. She was in her cavern / cave and heard Persephone's cries. Helios was the only being who actually saw her being taken. In the story Hekate and Demeter first go to Helios to see who abducted Persephone. Her role in the Persephone myth also suggests that she walked behind Persephone as they were lead from the underworld by Hermes. Yet her torches (probably long staved) would allow her to light the spaces yet be held above her head in order not to blind. Some early art works show Hekate walking behind Persephone as she rises from the underworld to be greeted by Demeter. 4. I think your missing the idea on a three-some with regards to Persephone - Hekate - Demeter. Especially in the sense of it's inclusion in the Eleusinian Mysteries. Persephone is the maiden that is taken into the underworld to arise as a woman. Hekate seems to function as a transition from maiden to mother. Yet it's not truly mother either for she returns as a "woman" and not a child. So one might wonder if Hekate actually over see's the transition from child to adult. In some actions similar to Artemis who watches over children until they age to become adults in society. Then passed off to another goddess depending upon what function / role they assume. The odd part though is that Hekate is not found at all the sites that observed the Eleusinian mysteries (Lessor or Greater) I think it has some similar equations to Artemis - Selene - Hekate. Figure Artemis / Diana is the bright or new moon, Selene / Luna is the actual moon and Hekate is the dark moon period. In Roman times there is a 4th aspect to this that is occupied by aspects of Juno. 5. One place you see a possible triple goddess function. That is in the role of Diana Nemorensis, at Aricia (Lake Nemi) in Italy. She is a true three formed goddess there but instead of back to back they stand side to side. The Cyprus tree is also connected to the site. Coins minted for the site show three figures standing upon a bar with Cyprus tree's. One hold a bow, one what looks like a flower and the last (middle figure) has nothing if I recall correctly. Hekate as High Priestess from Taurus and the story of Orestes also ties to the site. I do want to commend you on this video. It was well laid out and presented very nicely. Keep up the good work.
Father, Son and the Holy spirit is the tripple aspect of "male" divinity, though originally made up of feminine entities...in Hinduism there is three main male gods Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma. Brahma usually is dipicted with multiple heads facing different directions and sometimes so it the monkey god Hanuman. Hades, Zeus, and Posiden are also tripple aspects of male divinity and correspond very much to the Hindu gods. It all depends on how you percieve all this!!!
I just had a short convo with Hekate and we smoked some Newports together. She gave me an orange and red towel as a gift and said it will bring me good luck. I thank you Hekate. She was posing as a homeless lady. Her call sign is Annie Cherry. She seems to know a lot about me.
Wonderful video many people do not know that the true form of the Triple Goddess is not Hekate in three forms but instead three different Goddess, Persephone (the Maiden) who was given to Hades by his brother Zeus, Demeter (the Mother) who searched endlessly for her daughter but got lost and Hekate (the Crone) who found Demeter with her blazing torch in hand and guided her through the underworld and helped Demeter find her daughter. This comes from possibly the second oldest writing of the Greek Gods HOMERIC HYMN TO DEMETER written around 650 BC later through Roman poets many of these stories were changed and throughout history these stories was clumped together creating new origin and meanings of different Gods and Goddesses. Example from T.V many people believes Aphrodite to be the daughter of Zeus which is not true she was actually born off the Coast of Cythera from foam produced by Uranus Genitals but you can't put that on T.V. so she became known as the daughter of Zeus.
Snakes in medical world symbolism is a single snake around a staff, representing Aesculapius/Asclepius the doctor who was made a god. The snake is a chthonic symbol.
So happy to find your channel, just getting back into witchcraft after many years away and your channel is not only reminding me of forgotten memories but also I’m learning new knowledge, so thank you I’ve subscribed 😊 my only worry is that Leaving an offering of Garlic near a tree may kill an innocent dog as it’s quite poisonous to them, even though in days of old dogs were sacrificed as an offering I would hate to think of that a poor doggie dying from poison😢please don’t leave garlic at the base of trees that dog walker have access to 🌳🐕
I loved this week's happy hour more than any other thusfar! Hecate has been sort of leading my rituals to be more and more oriented on her presence as of late so this was particularly timely as well 😂🧡
I love love love this video, please show more videos on her in the future. So sorry I missed. Hekate is my go to Goddess. I do work with the Elemental Guardians as well and Cerridwen on occasion. But Hekate has such a magnetic energy that just pulls you in. She is the easiest Deity for me to communicate with. I always get tears of comfort and joy when working with her, and if there is a gap in time where I'm not communicating with her I always get a sense of longing as if I am missing a loved one. She is powerful, beautiful, fierce, and admirable all at the same time. I have also heard of her as being the Goddess of the Wolf and the Dog. Although she does have many names. Thank you so much for sharing this video. I'm gonna show some love and like on this video and smash that Subscribe button. :) -Blessed Be
About the cypress (this may be interesting). If you want to know where there is a cemetery in Italy, you can just follow a lane of cypresses. They are always planted close to cemeteries.
Hecate is the Great mother, guardian and gatekeeper. The 🌒🌕🌔 symbol implies specialty to the coven of Hecate which means she is your patron Goddess. Adding symbols to the full moon acts as incantations.
I'm seeing a lot of conversation about Sleep Paralysis in the chat---could we possibly have a future PHH about sleep paralysis and the potential link to the spiritual? Or perhaps a broader episode about Dreaming/Liminal states, wherein some of the topics we discuss are sleep paralysis, lucid dreaming, and astral projection? We could also discuss deities related to sleeping/dreaming, and the perception of dreams from cultures around the world. Just an idea. ^^ Most of the spiritual work I do is rooted in dream states, so I admit I'm biased, but it seems like there's a broader interest in the community as well. :)
Hi Scarlet. Great video. Just my 2 pennies about garlic. I think it will be related to Hellenic tradition, mainly Hekate's Deipnon, in which people have been leaving an offering for the dead ( as well as Hecate ) on the evening of the new moon, on a crossroads ( crossroads in Hellenic tradition would be right outside your door ). In that case, onion and garlic have been seen as the best offerings for the dead. Also, people would stay inside that night. Apparently, there is nothing for the living to go out that night for. It's the night when Hecate leads a procession of the dead. Wrongly killed and so on. Anyhow. Great video, sorry couldn't catch it up live. You doing a brilliant job and WOW... I'm not a drinker but I love that drinking horn 🙂
In Italy and other Mediterranean countries, Cypress trees are marking the paths to cemeteries 🖤 There are SO MANY parallelism between Hecate and Hades that it’s made me think about how Hades and Persephone could be two sides of Hecate OR when the Greek society became more patriarchal (it wasn’t always!) there have been changes in the mythology and feminine figures have taken less prominent roles
Exciting topic, too bad I couldn't be there live, especially because rewatching with every 2-3 minutes of commercials is really no joy with a one-hour video 😭
3 is a powerful number in physics, in the old days physics was considered magic. 3,6,9 the universe was created, which is why theres 3 abrahamic religions who created the modern mainstream religions (not as modern as now but nothing is new) it started with women because women give birth it takes 2 to tango and the third is a child, the rebirth, 3, 6, 9 study physics
I am loving your content sis! I haven’t yet had the pleasure of catching a live with you, yet the replays are just as grounding and fulfilling for me. Thank you for you inspiring works and may you succeed to the highest heights along your journey! 🙏✨🌚🌹🌞
Hey, good video :) I love how more and more people are learning about this most wonderful and mysterious Goddess (with the help of people like yourself 🌹blessed be 🌺
About the pronunciation, the way we pronounce Hecate is a derivation of how it was pronounced in Latin (Hékate) which we still use in English, Italian, Spanish etc. In Ancient AND Modern Greek they still retain the proper native pronunciation of the name, which is Hekáte. Just hoping this makes things clearer
There are plenty of triple goddesses who have 3 aspects to them such as Hecate and her 3 “heads” and The Morrigan who is split up into 3 goddesses that such as Badb, Macha, and Morrigu. But, there aren’t triple goddesses in the Wiccan sense. Wicca in particular was founded by a man named Gerald Gardner and to my understanding he used “the triple goddesses” structure of the maiden, mother and crone to essentially put women into boxes and tries to explain that woman start off as young innocent and pure(maiden), get pregnant and loose their innocence (mother), and then turn old and ugly in a man’s eyes (crone). I feel like there are hints of misogyny in Wicca in particular and Wicca is also largely influenced by Christianity which is another explanation for such. This can also explain the correlation between the holy trinity and Wicca’s triple goddesses. The Wiccan triple goddesses isn’t an accurate representation of all women and women goddesses either. Some women and goddesses don’t even become pregnant or turn into mothers.
Def a connection between the Bible’s word of u see the cracks in the words of the Bible and have a open mind I love the theory of it being like the holy Trinity cuz I believe in god but i also believe in this I’ll call it a calling is the only way I understand it rn it will be back it’s been apart of my life since I was 6 ..i don’t claim to know anything but know 100 i wasnt even into witch craft or any of this till i wasn’t able to deny it any longer and if u know u know ..
Watching this while making my crown for my Hecate costume for a Halloween party that I'm going to this year. Also I just recently read Macbeth over the holidays. I'm in secondary school and we will read it at school at some point apparently but I've already read it because I'm a total nerd for English especially Shakespeare and Greek Mythology and Norse Mythology. Actually that's how I got into paganism, from reading lots of mythology.
I don't feel like Hecate liked the sacrificing of dogs. She loves Dogs, & Cerebus the 3 headed dog was a puppy when Hekate was in his presence. That really allowed her two travel between realms. Excellent research and I appreciate your ability to teach us and confirm our feelings for this Goddess.
I have Been thinking about the Triple Goddess /God thing Instead of 3 in some cases 4 would work better than triple. I see the Maiden as Youth But as a Young adult not a Child. So I would see it more as "Child, Maiden , Mother, Crone. " Kinda Like the 4 seasons, In the Springs Everything is New like childhood, Then the summer of your Life, Everything is in full Bloom & the Youth ranging from around age 13 - early 20's are Running around, The Autumn of our life would be what would be correlated with Motherhood weather or Not you have kids or not. from around Mid 20's Until whenever you think you have crossed over to Cronehood. In the Autumn of our life we would be thought to be mature and if you don't have your life together you are thought to be on the path. and on top of that it is the time of Harvest to take care of the family. In your Winter or Cronehood You are under no obligation to maturity, You lived your life gained your wisdom, You can be as calm or as wild as you want and for the most part don't care about others judgement on you but as the elder you affect the youth.
I have some idea on the snake. I have had autoimmune skin problems brought on by food sensitivities. But i think it goes deeper than that. As I have taken the harmful foods out and been healing my self. The skin ailments are fading. And now I want to help others. The Indians call it Naga Dosha.
I have read Hekate perceived as The triple goddess Hekate, Circe, Medea, it would be good to learn about the other aspects of of Hekate, like Circe and Medea. I learned a lot from this video, thanks for sharing.
ccording to the legend, Odysseus received Hecuba as his captive after the fall of Troy. But the Trojan queen murdered a Thracian king on her voyage to Greece. As punishment, Hecuba was transformed into a black dog and became the companion of Hecate
I want to call my religion/spirituality, Celtic Ancestralism, its kind of like Confuciansim which I guess is also ancestor worship. So via DNA, history, archaeological discoveries I can tell a bit about my ancestors. I know they were probably the Celtic tribes which were destroyed by Rome. Part of my main thought is I want to have long hair to honor my ancestors, the idea of short hair is kind of a Roman idea. Now I am researching the tribes, which is amazing to me because I can name many Native American tribes but I was literally clueless about the Celtic Tribes that Rome destroyed.
First of all, I adore you and your videos! 😍 I still have to finish this one and I already love it lol. You're right about the pronunciation, the original one stresses the first syllable, so it's Hékate and not Hekáte. Just one little thing: the last "e" in the name is not pronounced as in "he,she,be" and so on. It's pronounced like the "e" in the words "let, get, set" etc. That being said, I'm going back to enjoy the rest of the video. Love you! P.s. sorry for any mistake, but I'm Italian, so not really an English native speaker lol.
Hekate is on my asc and north node. I pull charms and would always get keys. I guess now I know why! I also have Persephone conjunct my sun! I’m thinking I should be a doorlady at a nightclub 🤔
Hello from Greece! Your prononciation is closer to the original name actually 😊 In greek there is not H at all, but that’s just for the english transliteration. Thank you for great video by the way!!
That was super interesting thank you! I tend to have vivid dreams and sometimes lucid dreams but it scares me, perhaps I can ask Hekate to help me with that, to not be afraid of that liminal space of consciousness. I've also read that she was considered a protector of those who were neglected or abandoned. On a different note I wonder whether anyone knows where the notion comes from that Hekate was the mother of Circe and Medea?
Scarlet, I would love to see a video about how you chose your name! I'm interested in choosing a new name with my partner when we get married and am interested in how you discovered yours. Much love, we've learned so much from you. I feel so much closer to paganism with your help ❤️
it sounds like she´s one of the three homestead spirits that every adult woman would have. the one that guards the threshold, the other two being the spirits of fire and earth (all three being liminal in nature, sort of gateways to the "other" which is logical when you think of child birth or any sacrifices made at home). it has correspondances in many other cultures, for example the sami deity Maddar-ahkka (which literally means the mother of grandmother) and her three daughters (one of whom is Uks-ahkka who guards the doorway of the sami tent). as for the number three.. to me four is the actual sacred number (because it´s left unsaid). it was three masks and a pole right (in that case the pole would be the mother goddess, the matron, she wouldn´t just be a mask). if it´s true that stuff goes way back, it´s like old europe tradition.. greeks before they were greeks.
obviously the starting point for the belief is very natural.. because if you have three daughters you WILL become the matriarch.. whether you want it or not :)
I learned and came across you back when you were still Wiccan at the very wnd of you being on that path.so im just wanting to catch up with you. I left social media for a while and just needed to get myself straight after a big change in my own life a really hard time i needed to heal from.
There is a triple man but they all have different names so it's kind of tough... Four legs, a baby (Esu) Two legs, a man (Elegua) Three Legs, a elder (Papa Legba) and yes this is a cross road deity. This is the only one I have ever heard of.
I've a older house one of the oldest in my community but not real big but the original first built has the older skeleton keys. And being single and very devoted to Hekate and she has a lot of ghost so I have rooms shut off. And just for the spriutal live. Now the nights I really feel them is it almost sounds something like crickets but absolutely not crickets have you ever heard of that. It's thier way of communicating?????
I couldn't be at the live chat, but I'd like to add to you query about crossroads and magic. I think it's inherent to magik practices and crossroads because in magik we are redefining, rewriting, reprogramming our reality. At crossroads we are making decisions about which way wee go. Really these are quite similar. Magik is exerting energy to beseech the Gods/God/Universe to make something occur, whereas when we travel a crossroad gives us a similar opportunity to determine our fate. Does this make sense to anyone else?
Man I always miss the lives and wanna chine in but I think the triple godess is a very modern concept from wicca so there isn't reslly a diety that exists for them but you can attach a diety from the past to the archetypal concept cause thats essentially what it is.
How can i tell if Hekate is calling me or trying to contact me? I as because I never thought I'd work with a Greek Goddess or that she would want to connect with me. But not quiet a year ago i and my older sister and my fiance went to a local mystic store and we all bought things we liked and such well i got 2 books one of which was supposed to be about hedonism. So we all got in the car and as we started down the road i pulled out my book's i just bought and to my surprise some how i had gotten a wrong book not the heathenry book that i actually was wanting i some how end up with Entering Hekate's Garden!😮😅 I was shocked and confused on how this could have happened! But i and my fiance said well maybe i was being told the other path wasn't for me and that she was trying to connect with me? But I was born and raised in the USA and my highest part's of my actually DNA and ancestors where from Europe all over so i was thinking of more the Celtic path but i do have a bit of this and that also and inuit and Cherokee so this just really threw me for a loop lol. So i read the book and enjoyed it and i am a huge animal lover myself but im mostly a dog person as well. And i have seen lot's of blaxk birds and i did have a in encounter my little weenie dog and I hollered at it and jumped in between them and said hey know and it went home or left possibly was a coyote. And ive had quit a few strange cats show up of and on as well had a black dog cross the road several feet in front of me. But how can i be sure it's Hekate and she's trying to contact and get my attention. Maybe i just feel i need a more not shadow of a dought in my face sign that's just who i am.😅😊
Actually the correct pronunciation of her name if we go back to Ancient Greece (researched many resources) puts the emphasis on the 2nd syllable “KAH”I get very frustrated when really smart people put the emphasis on “tee” I think it makes her seem too fluffy and she is not fluffy lol. She is the great mother of all she is HeKAHtee which sounds a lot more powerful don’t you think. It took me awhile to pronounce it right too since I said it wrong for many years before dug deeper
in italy you can find cypress tree in cemeteries because of their shape: they indicate the sky, therefore heaven, which is kind of controversial according to pagan beliefs because it should represents the underworld (that in christianity is hell).
Why am I not getting notifications? I missed this one. Oh, and keys back in the ancient Greek days didn't look like keys we have today. Earliest versions of Hekate (on red/black vases) do not have her in tri-form.
Maybe it's intentional that there's no goddess fitting the triple goddess criteria. By so many having a triple form yet none being an exact fit it allows it to sort of be all of them and none of them at the same time. The symbol is so prevalent and held in such high regard that if there were a goddess that was a perfect embodiment she would likely be held above all others by a vast amount of people. The way it currently is several goddesses can come very close and yet none are a true fit, it keeps them more equal. All share the honor but none wear the crown. It's just a theory but I think it's nice to think about it in that way.
