The Winter brothers are undoubtedly master multi-instrumentalists. They've each had outstanding moments in rock history.

Johnny and his brother Edgar had the most extreme form of Albinism. As youths, if they got out at all in the daylight they would burn very fast. Like 2nd degree burns. So they spent a lot of their childhood in the basement of the house. Their parent bought them like every musical instrument you could think of, and both boys mastered all of them. They were two phenomenal musicians! Johnny went more Blues Guitar and Edgar went more Keys and Synth, but they could both play almost anything.

She does a tribute to SRV and has toured with and/or played with Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Sheppard among others. Ally is the next generation of blues guitarists. Her latest album spent three weeks at #1 on the Bliiboard Blues charts.

Johnny Winter was the first and only white guitarist inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. There may be more now idk but he was the first. Here is my best Johnny Winter story - I was in Mystic Seaport, CT working at a wooden Boat Show. We heard about a blues festival where JW was the closer on the last day. We finally found the venue which was in the parking lot of a marina. We asked about buying a ticket for that day but we were told we had to buy the whole weekend package for $77. That was too much so we decided to hang outside the fence which was right behind the stage anyway. I noticed that people were going into the venue from a hall that a wedding reception was happening and got an idea. We walked around the reception hall along the waters edge past the hoists at the marina and found a rent-a-cop reading a book and people walking in and out. So we simply walked right in! $0! Long story short, we ended up 3 people back from center stage and Johnny was led in to a chair as he was mostly blind then sat down and killed for about an hour. We reveled in our good fortune. As it turns out that was his last US appearance - he died 3 weeks later in Europe.

I saw most of the great guitar players, in my younger years. But about 35 years ago I saw Johnny Winter live in the Netherlands. I couldn't believe my ears, and my eyes. He was playing about 10 feet away from me. Never saw anybody do what he did. I really think Johnny was the best. Playing slide and finger style in the same song. Good reaction, thanks. 👍💪😁

And Chuck wrote this song for his piano player, Johnnie Johnson, using a fictional guitar player, since that's what Chuck was and he was the frontman...and what a frontman he was!

If you want to see an old Johnny Winter playing fantastic slide guitar check out Johnny Winter & Derek Trucks - Highway 61 at Crossroads ... the 9:41 length video. Sadly the video quality is bad. There used to be a much clearer video of the same performance but I can't find it anymore. There's shorter edited versions that are clear, but it's not worth losing some of the song. Derrick Trucks is no slouch when it comes to playing slide guitar but he's in awe of Johnny, and in the clearer video it's so much fun to watch the BIG smile on the face of the bass player. He's loving every second of playing with Johnny Winter. His smile is so big it looks like the night before the performance he must have slept with a coat hanger in his mouth. - Another pretty good performance of an old Johnny Winter is him playing Dust My Broom on The David Letterman Show. -- OH MY GOD! You don't know who Muddy Waters is! I guarantee that you have heard him before but didn't know it was Muddy. After Muddy Water's wife died he moved from Chicago to Westmont, Illinois. I grew up two towns east, in Hinsdale, Illinois. I had a friend who was a neighbor of Muddy's. We never did the annoying fan thing, when we'd see him we'd just smile and wave and Muddy would do the same. It was not at all unusual to see Johnny Winter or Eric Clapton and others at Muddy's house. Eric Clapton was the best man at Muddy's wedding. Muddy Waters is a true blued legend. As I said, I guarantee you have heard Muddy Waters and just didn't know it. There is no way you haven't heard "Mannish Boy" in movies and TV shows, and very possibly on the radio. If you watched "Goodfellas" .. you heard Muddy. If you watched the TV series "The Sopranos" .. you heard Muddy. "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man" is another that I would guess it would be almost impossible for you to not have heard. "Champagne & Reefer" is not as well known, but it's a great short fun song. "Yeah bring me champagne when I'm thirsty. Bring me reefer when I want to get high. Yeah bring me champagne when I'm thirsty. Bring me reefer when I want to get high. Well you know when I'm lonely Bring my woman set her right down here by my side." The Rolling Stones, among others, covered the song. The Rolling Stones would come to Muddy's club in Chicago and join in the show, as did many other famous bands and individual musicians. --- One other GREAT guitarist you really should check out is Buddy Guy. I'd suggest almost anything from his Red Rocks performance. Buddy Guy was a big influence on Jimi Hendrix. Jimi used to go to clubs Buddy was playing at, sit as close to the stage as possible, watch Buddy play like a hawk watching a rabbit in a field and Jimi would bring a cassette recorder with him. Jimi studied Buddy Guy. - You mentioned checking out B B. King. You should check out "The Three Kings" -- B. B. King, Albert King and Freddie King. Albert King was a good friend of Stevie Ray Vaughan. The two shared a stage a number of time when Stevie was new and just breaking into the business. And if you like the blues you should also check out Albert Collins 'The Master of the Telecaster.' I'd suggest a live version of "If Trouble Was Money." The first one that pops up in a Google search is the best performance I have seen. There are different options of the same performance and some are better quality, but that would be the performance to check out.

You hear the slide. In Vancouver mid 70's they turned off his power sometime past midnight. He was cooking playing every rock song there was.

That driving bass in the background is none other than Tommy Shannon, who would later go on to play with SRV and Double Trouble.

As far as I know he always plugged straight into the Amp, no electronic devises altering the guitar.

Keep in mind that Johnny was pretty much legally blind when this was recorded. He was losing his sight, although he could still see his guitar neck clearly. I roadied for Johnny during this tour - Kim Mitchell was the warm-up act (solo after Max Webster broke up).

As everyone else in the comments is saying, you also need to check out Jonny's brother Edgar. Sometimes they played together and sometimes they played in separate bands. But you also need to check out Rick Derringer who played with both Johnny and Edgar. Especially listen to Rick Derringers's playing on "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo", "Frankenstein", and his guitar solo on Steely Dan's "Chained Lightning". And speaking of Steely Dan, check out Larry Carlton's solo on "Don't Take Me Alive" and check out Steve Gadd's drum solo over Wayne Shorter's sax solo in Steely Dan's "Aja".
