At Super Smash Con 2023, three top level Kongs are set to kollide in what may be a Melee event for the ages!
These three DKs, Moe, Quang and Junebug, all could make a case for best Kong, so who will do best in this open bracket? I look at the three frontrunners and the ups and downs of their year thus far, as well as a couple other contenders for greatest ape.
Who do you think is the best DK? Please let me know in the comments!

The DK renaissance is truly something to marvel. Amsa and Axe have shown us that great players can take these underrated characters to new heights, but it seems a little different for the DKs. Axe and Amsa seem to be cracked melee players that have grinded so hard on their characters for so long that they were able to overcome the odds almost by themselves. But seeing how these top DKs have all been working together to develop their meta in the modern game is really amazing. I can't wait to see how they all continue to improve, can't wait to see a DK in top 8 in the future.

@towardstar Give it a few years and I'm sure we'll see a DK in grands at a major. So long as DK doesn't run into any Sheiks or Icies then a miracle run is always possible. Can't wait to see what happens with the character :)

I think that Junebug has crazy solid fundies, and DK is an excellent fit to make the most out of that extensive game sense. Really hope he sticks with the character because he’s such a joy to watch

To be fair, he's been top 40 with Sheik in the past, but yeah it's pretty insane nonetheless, especially when it's a character that has never had a representative that highly ranked in over a decade.

i really enjoyed how actually informative this was. it's easy to go into a video where the subject is "here's a question this video is about but won't be able to answer" thinking it's going to be all fluff and wasted time for views just because... a lot of video makers do exactly that all the time. i wasn't exactly *worried* this vid was gonna be like that but i appreciated how much info was in it and how the setup (the title question) was used as a lead-in to drum up excitement for a couple upcoming events some folks might've not heard about yet. just another cool enjoyable vid from wusstunes

Ever since your first DK video was posted Its been very interesting watching DK come up as a character to be on the look out for and I am very much a believer in the Kong I personally think that maybe Akir could be the best DK but he needs a little push on the offline results but with the results he has gotten online especially his Coinbox run its definitely something to be taken into consideration. I am very much sad he is not gonna be in the Smash Con DK vs Ganon crew battle but either way very excited nonetheless for the rest of the Kong bros to put on a show for the crowd.

I've been calling it since forever that DK will see his day. The biggest hurdle for any character is not getting absolutely dominated by Sheik, and imo the matchup isn't as bad as it would seem. I truly believe that he does alright against most of the top tiers, and if people actually dedicate time to learning his neutral and punish game, he at the very least could be a very convincing secondary.

After seeing can donkey kong win a major a few years ago it's crazy how far players have pushed him and the history of it too. I bet people will find new strats and even tech for the character and rise on the tier list.

Revisiting this 9/23/23, on which ckyulmiqnudaetr has just swept his pool not dropping a single game, including a 2-0 win on Gahtzu, and is poised to possibly get into top 16. Akir is also in top 64 and similarly poised to possibly get top 16, most likely loser's side if at all though. DK is seriously breaking out

@@wusstunes I feel like there needs to be more morph ball bomb usage in samuses...not just for recovery, i dunno, in ultimate when I played samus the tiny hitbox you get while in morph ball and reset on air movement was very useful for mixing things up and it can really mess up approaches if you are blocked by a bomb

The best dk is whoever can deal with his bad matchups the best, i dont think there are many spacies or martbs ,any of these guys cant beat or at least scare to death, its more about not losing to the local sheiks and peaches

I really am not sure if Peach is DK's worst matchup, or Sheik even. At least on the Peach side, we've seen Moe do really well against Sharp, Junebug do really well against Polish and Mvlvchi, Quang go last hit with Kzhu and Akir take wins over Bbatts online.

From my experience dk ice climbers is barely playable because of how they counter Dk's tools. Sheik might be one of the worst matchups but imo it's not that bad. You have a punish game on her and DK cc is really broken. Fox and Falco could be the hardest to fight if optimized. Fox pretty much has to choose to lose neutral vs DK. he just gets destroyed when he does.
