Who is Nano Cortex for? 

It seems like they don't really know what this product is or who it's for. I think they wanted to have a cheaper product, but they were afraid of butchering the quad cortex sales, so they just left out a bunch of essential parts, and it just became a confusing, mangled mess...I just wanted a cheap, modern rival to the HX Stomp, as the stomp is ancient hardware at this point - and I wanted to be able to bring my Neural DSP archetype rigs with me, since I don't have any physical amps. Because I have no amps or rigs to capture and it can't do half of the things the HX Stomp can (even though the stomp is almost a decade old); this just seems useless on all levels....seriously...you're mostly a software company who sells guitar plugins that people pay a LOT of money for, and then you release guitar hardware that can't run your own software? It's just completely ridiculous...not to mention NO SCREEN or FX Loop in 2024??? Really?? Very disappointing....

Here's a product idea: Remove the capturing feature. Put it into a standard-sized pedal housing with stereo in/out. Call it the Cortex Cloud Player and price it at $250.

Honestly a lot of people dont give a fuck about captures, most of us neural dsp users dont own amp rigs, we would rather prefer the unit only have modeling insted of captures. Totally wrong aproach on this product

Most people wanted a HX Stomp / FM3 like from Neural for like 900-1000$ or under USD

It's for nobody! Over priced, over hyped and under developed.

No DI out, no compressor, no drive, no boost, fixed path, very few fx, no screen, only 1 capture at a time, no stereo input, only 2 footswitches, no plug-in compatibility, delay when switching presets, no aux in, … I just don’t see why anyone would buy this over a Tonex, HX stomp or similar device.

Quad cortex owner here, even the quad cortex sucks as an interface. My focusrite Scarlett solo has better sound quality when I am using the plugins

They had the opportunity to break the market... but no, everything I hate about Tonex was replicated in Nano Cortex and more expensive, excellent!

The capture part doesnt make any sence. Just've sold it separately like Tonex did. I really hope you do it in a near future.

Great for those who are actually starting out without gear, headstart into high fidelity, but then some features are contradictory, as there are cheaper alternatives for those who are starting out without gear. I wish it was just a player for cortex ecosystem profiles, with inbuilt FX, and a bit of routing options, minus the capturing tech. That could be a game changer.

I was really hoping you all would make a true HX stomp competitor. Something with half the DSP of QC, stereo inputs and a fx loop in a 2 / 3 button enclosure.

Which beginner needs “capturing”? Nobody who is just starting out needs this, nobody who is just starting out has any great tube amplifiers that they can “capture”. In principle, this also applies to the majority of people who simply play guitar for fun. Who among us laypeople really knows what these amps sound like in reality? I'm sure the majority have no idea, including me. And the majority don't need that either. The QC is a great piece of gear, but this "I don't know what I should be thing" is pretty senseless. Stop telling us what this thing is supposed to be for. Be humble and admit to yourself that the thing is simply a bad design that simply had to be on the market so that it might somehow be worth it.

missing the point and convincing people that you didnt miss the point are 2 ver different things. I was ecstatic when i first sw this until i read the specs and what it can and cant do. There are practical issues with the nano cortex that you didnt think through thoroughly, for example putting an extra slot for overdrive is the easiest one but its also the obvious one since many people want an amp with an overdrive, more than many actually. now the capture market will get flooded with OD + AMP caps which really sucks if you re fine tuning stuff. No reason at all to not use an hx stomp instead of this for now

As a Neural DSP avid user (Quad Cortex and plugins), I think this is a failure...

Capturing (the right way) is not an easy process. Also, If you are a beginner, you probably don't have too many amps to begin with.

y'all ever going to make a statement regarding the feature request for a hub interface or nah? as a longtime customer i feel like the silence here is negatively affecting my opinion of this company and will have a negative impact on my desire to recommend these products to others or continue to purchase them myself.

Got mine yesterday! And returned to a shop today. Shame it’s not a modeller and very limited with FX. In overall great piece of gear if asking price would be £299 not £499

How do you switch between rigs live? If for example I want four or five main set ups, how would I switch between 1 and 5 with only two buttons? This looks killer btw

The amount of time a new product takes is quite unbelievable! I am very thankful to companies for continuing to make new and exciting products! I am thankful for your hard work and dedication! I am a tube amp enthusiast and still gig with a full rig and I am very thankful for this type of product for those gigs that I can’t bring a full sized rig out for!! Thank you Neural DSP!!! For anyone out there who is wanting a modeler based nano I am sure one day that will be in the pipeline but I encourage you to give this a proper try, this may be the only way some of you will ever try some of these great amps! Neural DSP has delivered some very amazing products and I have a feeling they will continue to do so! Let’s all give some props to an amazing company!! I will forever be a fan for just the Rabea and Slo100 plugin!! You hooked me with those alone!

If Two Notes puts Genome into hardware, it will be better than Nano Cortex.

It sounds great, no doubt. Easy to use. But from what I understood, you cannot use any FX in front of the amp capture in the signal chain (ex: OD, compressor). You'll have to plug an actual pedal in front of the unit. For the price, I feel that's a huge limitation. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I honestly don't see the point of this product. Wouldn't be much better just a Cloud Cortex (+ plugins, please) player? At the end of the day, your consumers/fans exist thanks to your plugins and modelling efforts, amp captures are just a bonus for people with access to great rigs.

In the beginning of the video I was expecting the very endearing Andertons bot voice: "DI GI TAL JOHN." 😋 I'm only mad because it sounds as good or better than my own gear. Headphone out and interface function is awesome.

If they'd just make a HX Stomp-like pedal that features the Archetype plugins, thats all people are asking for I think. I'd buy in an instant.

To me, there’s a conception issue. I don’t know if it’s due to processing. Personally, I see that as a mini replacement setup. But it’s not ready for prime time (as usual with Neural DSP). You would need the ability to switch the cab slot with another capture slot for OD pedals. Also we should be able to get a Fuzz/comp instead of the shifter. Chorus switchable with a tremolo and at least 3 delays and reverb choices. There’s a great potential in my opinion but it’s not ready. I like the idea of having only 4 sounds. In reality this is what I need. In my situation, I would use this with a solid state power amp into a real cab (no need for the cab slot…most captures have the cab baked in anyways!). I would use a Two Rock capture as a clean platform and capture my KOT and KTR or other of pedals. I would be able to play club size gigs with this. PS: It is also a price point problem. In my opinion, for the features it’s too expensive. ($1k here in Aus - HX stomp price…) At this point it can’t compete with my small rig - Hx stomp XL + ToneX One

Does the usb connection provide the ability to stream audio back to the nano cortex and then hear it via the headphone out. Backing tracks or music from your music library?

Looks intresting, bit pricey at the moment, at 400 or even with some more effects to chose from it would be a nobrainer… I mean 5 blocks in a fixed chain would be enough for me … I don‘t need a ton of effekts in a chain. So pls give us an update with compressor and Tubescreamer to chose instead of the Pitchshifter and maybe a Phaser as alternative to the chorus and I will be happy with this unit. Update: switching effects on/off and Tap Dly by external TRS jack, also as controlling effects an expression by Midi would make sense

This is a great product but missing an important feature. You offer Stereo outputs, but give us no way to use our own wet effects pedals before the Cab (ir). If you'd release a version with just an added Stereo Effects loop, call it the "Neural Nano Cortex+" for an additional £100 - £150 tops there would immediately be interest and I know for sure I'd be buying one on release no question.

Did Neural rightsize all the smart people out of the company? What is this overpriced rubbish? Please try not to go bankrupt, I'd still like to use my Archetype. Start making proper products again. Just stop the wannabe indie movies.

So what's a beginner gonna do with a pedalboard that doesn't even have existing sounds in it???? They probably couldn't even make a tone from scratch on a modeler and you expect them to capture sounds??!! Neural used to be a great company but now everything they do doesn't make any sense, they promised things they couldn't accomplish in 4 years and they set the bar too high for themselves

Marketing is bad on this Nano. Hx stomp gives you more for the price. Make a small unit to use the plugin live. And change marketing service...

So.. you made a ToneX pedal with delays and a DI? for god's shake.. who needs to a capture while traveling? Having so many amps, effects, IRs.. it only get you distracted, what for? Keep it simple .. in live situations you do not need a comlex rig

So I love my Nameless plugin but can’t load it with this and bring it with me? Or would I need to make captures of my signal path through your plugin to then load only captures of it?

It just has some weird design choices. The main issue is the lack of overdrive pedal slot in the effects chain. This is a dealbreaker for many. Yes, you can just use profiles with the overdrive built in, but most people prefer to have the overdrive pedal seperate for some more control. I know no overdrive slot was the dealbreaker for me, and I've heared the same from many others

It’s for at home players wanting to plug in and play with good captures of pricey gear and not be overwhelmed with modelling choices. It’s NOT for people wanting a small cortex as your shill marketers would have people believe.

I think it can be a good solution paired with an H90 but it needs a comp block instead of transpose block (it really sucks compared to digitech drop IMHO)

I just want a cheap machine to bring the plugin with me... at this point I will just buy a dedicated PC for the plugin I have, to play around

I don't think this is for the beginner player at all. I don't think this needs a screen, xlr outputs and/or modelled amps either, but a device for beginners would need an aux and cost around 100 bucks imho. The fixed chain effect (???), the lack of overdrive block and other effects, PCOM, computer editor AND POWER SUPPLY INCLUDED (wtf) has definitely no excuse. The Quad Cortex is loved by almost everyone because is a fucking great product, not because of the company name. The competition is very strong too; HX Stomp doesn't support or do captures, but it has A LOT of tonal possibilities (basically whatever you want), one more switch AND TWO INPUTS WITH TWO INDEPENDENT CHAINS for the same price, and the Ampero 2 Stomp is basically the same thing as the HX Stomp but cheaper. I think the target of the Nanocortex is ONLY the guys who wants to do their own captures and play them live along with their favorite pedals, otherwise, if you don't have amps to capture, the ToneX One is THREE TIMES CHEAPER and does almost the same thing with one less switch (no delay and no pitch shifter, but you can buy analog ones with the price difference). The Nanocortex has a couple of great features tough. The fact that you can power it with a simple 9V cable or via USB is pretty fucking dope if you ask me, great job there. Also the dedicated volume knob for the headphone output es pretty neat.

As an audio interface the mic input should be able to be used and 48v available. It was also be useful for acoustic/vocal if you could use both inputs on separate channels. I was about to buy one then found out those features weren’t available

It's not a bad device but honestly if I have to choose I would buy the Quad Cortex. I know this is 3 times cheaper but it also doesnt come with a control of the virtual amp or front pedals. The limitations in terms of options if its negative point. I don't really think this is for beginners, this is something more advance. In my opinion the person that would buy this device is that one that has already an amp and a cabinet and want to carry them in a small device.

This great because compact or floor space in some clubs is a big issue and I want both now!! 🤘💀🍻🔥

It's not for people who run stereo pedalboards where the stereo effects are placed in front of dual amps. There is only a mono input which makes this device incompatible in a stereo pedal chain with other stereo effects that need to come before it. If you're wondering why stereo effects need to come before an amp modeler/capture player pedal, its a very popular way that people run their guitar rigs and has been for years. Many famous artists use stereo effects in front of two amps.

With no XLR DI output it is useless... so sad. With that it could be a killer. Without - I don't need that

John we love you but come on. Beginers do need more effects if they are going to rely on only this. Plus integration in a pedal board where is the effect loop ? Hope you can at least include more effects via updates (like 6 reverbs, 6 delays, modulation). Otherwise even the kemper player lools more compelling.

If I’m trying to be as unbiased as possible, yes I get this is a whole different product than the QC, they do different things, however I won’t get into how competitive it is with other similar products that are already on the market. However I think for the people who are already interested in the Quad Cortex and what Neural DSP have been offering in the past, this is not the product they are expecting to drop. So instead of the likes of Axe FX III and FM3 counterpart, Helix and HX Stomp, those people didn’t get a smaller QC (Dual Cortex?) they were hoping, instead Neural DSP released a completely different product.

It’s cool for what it is. I’d use this when tracking demos all day. But it really should’ve been what no one is doing: Stereo in, XLR Out, Dual amps and IR’s, maybe an option for compression and reverb? That would sell like hot cakes.
