I'm so happy that people still talk about gta IV in 2021 edit: yall need to stop commenting the same thing over and over and over again. I know it’s 2023 Edit 2: I know it’s 2024, shut up Edit 3: stop fucking comment what year is it, I’m aware
Actually depend, if Niko decide to go through and kill Ivan for Vlad, he's only payed 200 i think, tho anyway, Niko's most shocked by the betrayal than by the price
The atmosphere in GTA IV is excellent. It feels like some kind of classic crime film, you really feel the city open up as Niko makes more contacts and establishes himself within the Liberty City underworld.
@@channelxer0626 I agree but think about it Niko is a former soilder who has a pretty cynical view on life so why would he be intrested in cars? I mean I wish they made him a car enthusiast but it is what it is
I am so happy that GTA chose the revenge ending to be canon.. Roman no matter how irritating in game, is the best supporting GTA character i have seen.
The man never obtained happiness ;_; His PTSD of his brutal actions in war, the endings with no happy endings, being used by a woman who was secretly working for the government...
Niko fought in Kosovo, not in Bosnia His elder brother did, but at the time Niko grew up, (say, 1999) he served with Yugoslav Army in Kosovo Bosnian war went on since 1992 to 1995. At the time of it Niko would be only 13 years old (since he was born in 1979) Niko also refers to "dodging bombs" in his younger ages, which makes a reference to NATO bombings of Yugoslavia, from which alot of civilians suffered and died Also, Yugoslav army used alot of helicopters in Kosovo, but Army of Republic of Srpska in Bosnia did not, which also implies that Niko was in Kosovo (since he was a helicopter pilot) Niko fought Albanians and Kosovo and that's why Albanian mafia in Liberty City are kinda a personal enemy to him, and that is why he hates them so much
I feel like part of the reason Faustin spared Niko is because he figured he was just as ruthless as himself. Niko kills mobsters without regard for consequences and so does Faustin.
Niko at least understood he was a killer. He has a heart of gold underneath the darkness of the life he was foeced to live. If it weren't for the war He would have been a good person
Niko Bellic is the only character which needed special character development for Rockstar Games. The voice actor, Micheal Hollick, needed a dialect teacher to teach him how to speak like a Serbian. Also during the voice acting, he was also added for motion capture and other things for the full development of Niko, eventhough Hollick didn't even resemble Niko in any way. He was paid only $100,000 for his voice acting and motion capture work for the game and also the Union didn't give him royalties for the game. He cut ties with Rockstar Games because of that. He was paid $1050 daily during the 15 month development period. Because of that he blamed the union for such bs agreement. He didn't return back to them for the DLC voice acting, instead R* used his prerecorded audio for it. He was still credited in both of the games.
As a Serbian who learned English while being in US during Nato bombing of `99 , I felt deeply conected to the Niko. Being back again to Balkans , for sure feels like irl gta :D Gta 4 was really masterpiece by story and gameplay at the time
if r* needs a voice actor for a gta 4 remaster and the quality is... actually excellent yet still needs to find a serbian voice actor for niko will you volunteer?
Niko: Life is complicated Johnny: The life we live has consequences. Luis: Overworked and underpaid. Also Luis: *Famous, access to Yusuf Amir, has Gold SMG. Me: There was a pattern but the it was gone.
@@ndhickson3599 That pattern do be gone. Then Grand Theft Auto 5........ Yeah, that pattern do be gone so hard I'm pretty sure the pattern is as dead as the hopes of Red Dead Online becoming good.
@@thenocturnalwanderer First of all play The Lost and Damned, then The Ballad of Gay Tony. They are definatly amazing games. And they give some backstory to the main story
@@thenocturnalwanderer They're shorter than the main game but I love the way they actually complete the story in such a way that its obvious they planned it that way from the start, like for example how you see what happens with Luis and Tony trying to get Gracie back after Niko and Packie kidnap her from their perspective.
So Niko was born in 1978. That makes him 30 years old at the time of events in GTA IV. He is 30 years old yet looks like he could easily be pushing 50+. Yes war will accelerate your aging process if nothing else.
I started to played GTA IV when i was like in my early teens. It’s story, the game and Niko Bellic still effects me to this day. It’s funny, i can’t bring myself to play or even get reminded of GTA IV. Not cuz it is a bad game, it’s freaking great. But because I’am afraid of bringing me back to the dark deep depressing story and city again.
I really do like how much detail and history they put into his backstory, even though it was the most fucked up, it made him as a character and the things he did more interesting.
The birthday reminder of Roman keeps the canon open for both possibilities. I have had some friends die, but Facebook still sent me haunting reminders of their birthday, even though they have passed. Many families keep their profile active in their memory.
I love the realism in Niko Bellic caracter, im at the begining of the video and i already rember how Niko was GOAT.. what i like about his caracter, is that when you knew the war, real WAR, the violences constantly, you cant be scared of some ghetto story shit. Also, the darkness and realism of the "dirt" around Liberty City is so artistic, and real.. remind me of my old suburbs lol.. GTA V has the "south" miami feeling, but GTA 4 was really ahead of his time, and was really unique on his own
I have to say, the story for GTA 4 is better than GTA 5's, and the fact that, at best, the ending is bittersweet, makes it feel more realistic. You feel for Niko at the end, even if Roman is still alive, and you genuinely hope that he finds a better life for himself. I still think he is the best character in the GTA franchise.
I really like this game for the simple fact that it touches on immigration and human traffic. I'm Mexican so a lot of why niko had to go thru is in some ways what a lot of relatives fleeing Mexico had to experience
Niko Bellic was by far the best protagonist in the series, and he showed us the reality on whats crime GTA IV deserves game of the century, it had given us important lessons, and the cruel truth to life
I like to think then Revenge Ending is canon, since Niko still has his family and friends, not to support them, but also to have them support him as well. In that ending, Niko has more hope of living a normal, happier life, becoming a caring uncle for his nephew/niece and keeping himself away from the risks of doing illegal jobs for other scumbags, hence why he “went quiet”.
GTA 4 was the first GTA game that truly excited me, solely because of the physics alone. The gunplay/driving and sense of weight the world had with an awesome euphoria physics engine was just so impressive at the time of release. Niko was a very strong and torn protagonist and the atmosphere was very moody and dark. Although gta5 had better graphics and draw distance, the gunplay and physics felt inferior in gta5 and it took awhile for the disappointment to wear off and fully embrace gta5.
GTA 4 is just different, i replayed it so many times just for the story, the moments and niko himself are all interesting. Honestly Niko is probably the most well thought, deep gta protagonist for me.
Being from eastern europe with the name Niko and when i was 6 during the balkan war conflicts..... i can only give kudos to the story writers and praise then as they tackle so many subjects and topics on morality
This was definitely the most accurate and real story telling rockstar did I mean people would shit on me saying rdr2 is but when he had that conversation about the war with Mrs faustin especially with what happened to the children. I remember my mums boyfriend told me of a mate who I'd actually met that fought in that war who had to collect boxes of children's hands that had been cut off. I couldn't get that thought out of my head when I was told about that it really messed him up. Also some scumbag close to the town I live tried to get him to kill someone for him but luckily he didn't he go through with it just buried the gun instead.
If you compare the stories to movies, GTA 4 is a drama thriller and GTA 5 is a Action Comedy. They made the GTA 5 story like that to appeal to the masses.
I think they made a mistake if the ending was Revenge they should of had Packie when his sister was killed and a possible secret Action if you take to long to shoot Dimitri Packie shoots him in the head.
He chose to hunt down the man who ruined him and killed his friends. He chose to involve his cousin in his rampage, and kill people in the high hundreds. He is no different he is only more aware of himself. Niko greatly enjoys killing and considers it “fun”. He is far worse than the other protagonists because despite his intelligence he continues his path of destruction.
I think that the part where niko talks about dead children and women, he is talking about the Bosnian war, in which 8537 women, children, and old people were brutally murdered by the army gang called "Arkan tigers" it doesnt mean that niko was a part of this army gang, he was probably one of the patrol army men that would patrol the city of Srebrenica where that happened, the part where he says he had to swim to survive a ambush is made up by the writers of gta IV's story. I am from Bosnia and this game hit hard for me, i wasnt mad at the Protagonist, or rockstar, because the game mentioned these events, i was happy that a person (Or at least a video game character) saw what was wrong and what was right. I hope for the best for my Serbian Croatian and my Montenegro neighbor's, and i dont wish death or unlucky situations for Serbs Croats or people of Montenegro, we are all human beings and we should respect each others not by their nationality, or race, we are all the same species and should threat one another the same. Thank you for reading this...
I agree, Niko didn’t kill the children, people don’t actually listen to his speech. He says “after you walk into a village and see” indicating he was patrolling the area and saw the gruesome sight which created his ideology that the creature (a human) that could murder children, rape his cousin’s mother and kill the innocent around him could never have a soul and if Niko is a human as well who also committed horrible crimes then he must not have one either. Also the Ambush and Niko swimming for his life are two different situation. The Ambush happened during the war and Niko swimming for his life happened during his time working for Ray Bulgarin as a trafficker which the ship sank and Niko survived but all the cargo (the smuggled humans) were gone with the ship.
@@frombogue thank you for explaining to me the Ambush, and him swimming for his life. I was confused on that on my first playthrough and since. I just put 2 and 2 together and i got that. Thank you for reading my comment!
Despite my undivided love for Bully, Niko is light years ahead of any GTA protagonist. Arthur Morgan comes in at a close second. Roman also steals the award for best side character. Lamar is also a standout but we all wish we had a Roman in our life.
I like how when Niko mentions Darko to Florian, for a brief moment, the Old Florian comes back DEAD, I HOPE. His voice changes, his mannerisms, for a moment he’s back in the war, fruitcake or not, the man has seen some fucking horrific shit
I finally got to play through gta 4 this year with my new desktop and currently going through the dlcs right now. I have to say I really love the abundance of information that this video has provided me.. its almost provoking me to play through the story again and make different choices in it! Love the vid man!
GTA 4 has such a different feel, it’s more personal, from what GTA 5 is, the main point of it is to produce as much money as possible, shark cards and extremely overpriced items list the shop, but GTA 4 was just an attempt at a beautiful game and story, and it succeeded.
That was an awesome video, I have GTA IV on Xbox Series X and I don't care that you spoiled the game. You actually let make the right choice. Thanks for the video.
Surviving isn’t the same as succeeding. In all the GTA games it’s about succeeding in life. However GTA 4 is about survival and what haunts the American dream
