And you always can have emulation. I lost everything in a fire... Mega drive, Saturn, Ps, Ps2, DC, GC, Voodoo 2 pc with everything like Doom, Quake, Unreal, HL... All the 80s vinyl I got for pennies, about 3,200 cds...some interesting stuff like a Marlene Dietrich autograph.... But thankfully with emulation I can bring myself back to those games and even though I've processed the loss, it was over a decade ago, when I feel a bit of a sting seeing a copy of Sonic 2 in a retro shop... I can put the games on and it takes me out of it. I'd love to get my Saturn stuff back, I had Christmas Nights, Panzer Dragoon Saga, actually two disc ones because Sega Saturn Magazine gave one away, Burning Rangers, Nights, Duke Nukem, Quake, Exhumed, Vuetual On, Fighters Megamix, Last Bronx, Shining The Holy Ark etc...id give anything to have that back... But hey long as I have a roof over my head, enough money to feed me and my cats, and a good relationship with nny missus I don't need ANYTHING

I just think that, in the year 2022, there is no need to have a basement full of physical media. There are just so many options that don’t require you to give up 1000 square feet of space. I would actually go a step further and say that big video game collections are kinda unseemly. It’s decadence and materialism at its zenith.

@@leeartlee915 I think having a collection of things that mean a lot to you is best. I'd love to get all my mega drive and saturn games back. But I usually will support an artist I like by buying a tshirt or vinyl from them, or if I really love a film I'll get the blu ray. But with how dodgy digital media licencing is... Ive two hard drives with tons of movies, shows, music etc on it. And the majority is from the high seas if you get my drift... I even have Disney + and Netflix shows downloaded. Ive just not seen anything that gives me faith in digital services. For example the latest Spiderman film... The original blu ray release had a list of deleted scenes... Then it arrives and they are missing... Then they release the film again in cinemas and AGAIN, with the extra footage, on digital, and in sure blu ray is coming... I paid for the cinema, I paid for the blu ray... So why the hell would I pay again? No thanks! Got an amazing copy for free and no qualms about it. As much as I'd love a big collection and I miss what I lost in the fire.. I really only have a desire for what u had as a kid and teenager. I wouldn't be into getting systems I didn't have or whatever for the sake of it. To have back what I lost is good enough for me

@@mccarthy5825 Well I have ally my games/systems from when I was a kid. Some of it’s worth $1000 of dollars. You know what I think every time I look at it? “I should sell this shit. I never use it.” Like, if I wanna play Super Mario World, am I really gonna dust off my SNES with it’s non-HDMI friendly out puts with a cart that most certainly has a dry battery in it…. or am I gonna just boot it up on my Switch with the wireless SNES controller? And for games that are less easily accessed, I have plenty of options that allow me to use original controller options. Because, to me, that’s what really matters: the input device. And even then, I’m flexible. Put it another way; the lower the barrier is for me to get a game up and running, the better chance I have to play it. Right now, with the click of a few buttons, I can play almost any game ever released for home consoles. That is hard to beat.

Sure Xmen COTA is good on Saturn but with a good controller and MAME... why would I bother. Personally I'd like to have a small collection just for nostae. But yeah I ain't gonna boot it up and have it all skewed on my modem TV... I guess if I had to say anything for you to keep it, it would be that if you, heaven forbid, need money for medical treatment (thankfully in Ireland we have universal healthcare.) or something, you can get rid of it... But the way this whole WATA thing is... Your precious collection probably will fall into the hands of uncaring investors and maybe I'm a bit sentimental but I'd hate my games to go to someone like that. I'd rather sell for a fair price to someone who really loves the game. I got into emulation like back in 2005 or something and it's come on so far. It is weird to go back to original hardware, especially with controllers And even if you did want original hardware you can grab one of those carts you can load roms on. You really made an interesting point mate. If I were you I'd maybe parcel off a bit of the collection to maybe help provide a secure future for you. Believe me if I could pay off my mortgage selling the collection I had, oh i would! An ex bought me Sonic 2 for as present one time out of the blue and it really means the world. I got that game just after it came out when my step dad bought it for me and told me he wasn't my dad. He's dead 20 years but that memory is so strong and I've a million ways to play Sonic 2, but that plastic case, book and cartridge mean so much. Maybe if you apply that to your collection and try do something like pay a mortgage or something with it and keep the sentimental stuff you can have the best of both worlds.

I have so much clutter and systems that you can't really set them up. They just collect dust and don't get the use they deserve. But selling stuff on ebay is now a total nightmare.

Last year was the time to sell. Now that we're in a recession, people are tightening the purse strings.

Me too. The gas station by my house has all that delta 8 delta 9 stuff. I don’t mess with it. I drive an hour to the nearest dispensary and buy enough to last me a few weeks.

I got a everdrive 64 flash cart because for the price of 3 loose games where I live, the flash cart covers all the games I want to play that are too expensive.

And here I am finding FF7, Legend of Dragoon, Lunar Complete 2 (collector edition) and Wild Arms 1 on the ps1 for $3 each at a yard sale last weekend ;)

But then what would you have displayed in the background of your RU-vid video or zoom/teams call to make yaself look like you're a true gamer? I would fill my shelves with 200 copies of Dr Kawashima's Brain Training and make myself seem smart - and insane! In all honestly I probably do have enough games to make a cool "display" but they are rather disorganised and I don't actually have any display shelves, most things are in drawers.

I got a t shirt, a picture, and this shirt that I'm trying to get all my favorite content creator to sign! I'm blessed I only like 2 hours away from the convention and it was my first one as well. Yeah me too. I think its about how people collect in the first place. I always loved playing video games. So when newer stuff came out the older stuff got really cheap. So I simply just picked it up playing games when I have time.

Not really cost effective right now for Sega due to the chipset you’d need to properly emulate Saturn games. You could always get a MISTer though. Have pretty much every game core from Atari to PlayStation 1 with FPGA accuracy. The Sega Saturn core is coming along nicely.
