"You never know who's watching you. Especially when you're doing great things." Period. Also, when those great things don't benefit those in power. Freedom to the Congolese people.
The way he died and the way Belgium mutilated the civilians who stood up is still a trauma to many Congolese. You will meet them all over East Africa as refugees. Very friendly cultured people. Unfortunately France took over, they don't mutilated but they continue to remind them of the trauma through UN. The day Congo will be free, the whole Africa will know because the way they dance when celebrating will cause tremors😂😂❤
I’m glad you reacted to this it’s very educational. Another great African leader you can look at is Dedan Kimathi who fought for the independence of Kenya with the Mau Mau ✊🏾
His story is definitely one to know. There's a movie out about his life, which is where one of the clips was taken from for the speech. It's called "Lumumba." It goes through his start in politics. The only thing recovered from his body was a tooth, which was taken by one of the officers. It recently was returned to Congo ( DRC) in 2022.
For the record Lumumba was only in power for 81 days, then he was overthrown by US backed coup de tat. So in 81 days he did not have time to implement any significant policies at all given how after only 3 days in power, his Country fell into chaos and mutiny as Belgium was sabotaging the new country.
Congo has been through a lot. It's honestly just too much. It breaks my heart so much. We need more action oriented leadership in Africa. why are we still being bullied by the west to this day?
When Laurent Kabila became President of DRC in 1997, he renegotiated all mining contracts in order tat money should go back into DRC to build infratructure. President Bill Clinton retaliated by arming Uganda and Rwanda to invade. This was the largest ever war on the African continent and according to UN figures resulted in the deaths of over 5 million people. Angola, Namibia and Zimbabwe fought on the sie of Congo. Politically conscious Africans prefer Trump, not because we like him, but because he called Africa a 'shithouse' and left us alone, unlike Clinton who destriyed Congo, Obama who destroyed Libya and Biden who has tried to destroy our great ally, Russia,
This is a sad story. It's also sad when one of our own are being used by the western countries to oppose such courageous leaders simply because they want independence from western powers influence. @Demachets please check out Steve Biko's story as well. I'm not sure if you have previously.
Wifey looked like she was about to cry .....unfortunately this story was aĺl too common throughout Africa in the 60s. They did it to Sylvanus Olympio, Sankara, Lumumba and tried to do it to Nkrumah (7 assassin attempts), Machel, Mandela etc.
Great video! You should watch the documentary "Mobutu King of Zaire", it's on RU-vid. There's both the long version and shorter clips of it in English. It basically tells you what happens after Lumumba's death, because that was the beginning of President Mobutu's reign. He governed Congo for 40 years and ended up being exiled. I was born and raised in Congo. So my parents grew up at the height of the "kingdom" of Zaire. But there are so many things in that documentary that are mind blowing, even to us Congolese people.
Basically, Mobutu was working FOR him. Since Lumumba became the prime minister of Congo. Mobutu basically handed him over to the Americans. He was the general of the army at the time, so it was "easy" for him to organize a coup. I've watched that documentary so many times, it's mind blowing to me. The Congolese people were essentially worshiping him. I asked my mom one day if they really thought it was normal at the time. They had chants for him, where they would pledge allegiance to him and wish him an eternal life. All while he would dump bodies in the Congo river. Very interesting history.
Mobutu Africa’s greatest stain…..a dark curse on the continent….long live Patrice Lumumba…the greatest thing that almost happened to Africa…..but, enter her dark curse….Mobutu….the Belgians favorite African….damn puppet…..
The US gave Mobutu billions of dollars, most of which he kept. The fear of communism was so strong that the US knowingly supported a corrupt dictator. I'm an American and find the Cold War-era of Africa to be fascinating.
This story is very distressing. The "apology" was a mockery to the innate forgiving spirit of the rich-hued (Black) people. Congo is in chaos as we speak. But the West and Europe ARE silent about it. I suppose they already have an apology speech ready if they get what they want from both Congo and the African continent. It's an "if". The prayer is that, the people of Africa will gain peace, prosper, and be fully restored, in Jesus Christ name.
This doesn’t give you the full picture of his story. Do some research and try to react to his full speech on Independence Day, you’ll understand why USA/France/Belgian/UK needed him gone.
Imo his biggest mistake was trying to build Rome in one day ( figurly speaking) and lets also not forget some of his neighbours were afraid of having a mighty nation full of resources (becoming money and power) just next door.
I hate what the west has done and still does to Africa. I really hope Congo gets its peace asap! Free the people! Free the comments! Free the world! ✊🏿🌍🇨🇩🇭🇹🇾🇪🇸🇩🇵🇸🇱🇧🇱🇷
The real speech that had Lumumba killed was when he talked about racism and slavery and promoting the dignity of the black man which made the western powers very uncomfortable.
This is so incomplete, I feel it doesn't do justice to his story. I still can't comprehend how they could be so ruthless that assassinating him was not enough, they dissolved his body denying him a resting place. The only thing they kept was his tooth (a gold crowned tooth) bet that's the only reason it was taken.
Patrice Lumumba is Martin Luther King on Steroids (A greater and finer version) , I mean. Even we South Africans know the man's greatness in the history and identity of black people globally. He inspired people like Malcom X and Robert Sobukwe
I would not say he is a "greater" version of King...and based on what exactly? He is who he is/was and King is who he is/was. No need to insult Dr. King while trying to give praises to Lumumba.
