@spongeaang98 Год назад
With the ridiculous price of transfers in today's market as well as Manchester United's stature as a titan of the sport, signings like this will always cost money and there is always a risk (Martial's long term career). But Rasmus Højlund is the EXACT kind of signing they should be making. The speed, technical ability, high work-rate, versatility, pressing and good hold up play are all there, which is remarkable for a 20-year-old with limited game experience. And that's before you add in the speed and physicality you can't teach. United have figured out that buying strikers past their prime is not the right move to make and are properly investing in their future. People need to remember that many of United's best stars were not the finished article when they arrived like Ronaldo and Rooney and have always been one of the best clubs in the world with regards to developing young talent over the years. Real Madrid have made it their policy lately to pluck young talent with hopes they'll create long-term world class stars too, such as Vinicius, Valverde, Camavinga, and Rodrygo. With any luck, another more experienced striker may come along that lessens the burden he'll have to carry for the team, but he'll definitely be physically ready for the English game more so than others.
@YevOnegin
@YevOnegin Год назад
Pogba had all those things too, and was proven at the top level. Its not the 70s anymore, just because a player cares when he's 20 doesn't mean he'll care when he's 22. And United, as a club, are experts in convincing players to not care. Will Hojlund still be trying in three years? Sure, maybe. Will Haaland? Maybe. Did Neymar? Dele Alli? 10 years of Barcelona youth products? All of this analysis is pointless, the days of long term investment and progression are long, long gone.

Utd fan here so I want him to succeed but I can't say that piece filled me with optimism. A lot of praise from teams with an interest in selling him some goals against mediocre opponents and some criticism of it going to his head. I hope he comes with the passion and work ethic mentioned and then maybe we've got a player. As for the price, well Utd always over pay so no surprise there but then that's what a striker costs these days I guess. Haaland's buyout clause was lower but I'm sure with all the additional fees it shakes out the same in the end and just look at the price of Caicedo. Fingers crossed for you Hoijlund anyway, show us what you've got.
@MayankJha
@MayankJha Год назад
With the additional fees and extraordinarily high wages to make up for the low release clause, Haaland is much more expensive than Hojlund and it doesn't 'shake out the same in the end'. Though of course it all has been worth it for City regarding Haaland. Infact with wages and other costs factored in, Hojlund is actually much cheaper in the long term compared to what a deal for Kane or Osimhen would cost for example. I think even TIFO did a video about the finances. Hope Hojlund delivers on the hype but I do feel sorry for such incredible pressure on a very very young player.

@MayankJha Totally agree and I watched that TIFO piece about the fees too. Good explanation from them as always. insane valuation not just for a 20 year old (because there are 20 year olds that are PROVEN, CONSISTENT, like Mbappe when he moved to PSG, Neymar to Barca, etc) but for someone with a lack of data. people excel and start their careers at different times, some future champions were nobodies at 20, some are in the limelight since u13 (xavi simons for example). so 73 mill is not insane for the age. its just insane for the lack of data of the player.

I feel like it’s important to realise that us United fans aren’t comparing him to Haaland or anyone else. Only rivals and neutrals are doing that, and it’s understandable why. After Haaland came in and performed so well, any forward would naturally be compared to him, also the surname plays a part. However, we’re not too sure what we’re getting with Højlund. He doesn’t have to be the most prolific striker but if he can at least start bagging goals and stop us being so wasteful and actually finish the numerous chances we create then he’s done a job well done. As a Copenhagen fan let me put some context to his time there, nobody had any doubt about his talent and most fans were disappointed to see him leave. But it is quite normal for FC Copenhagen that the youth players who get promoted to the first team, spend the first year or two as a rotation player to build up their confidence and skills. Nobody is secured a spot in the starting 11, unless they have proven themselves worthy through training and the game time you get here and there.

The issue I think is the sale of Jonas Wind to Wolfsburg on the last day on the window as I remember. They wouldn't have sold him if they knew that a kinda "too good to be true" late bid on Wind would come (as of the sporting director in a fan podcast). I'm just glad he's proving everyone wrong, he'll always be an FC dreng, but you could definitely justify a sale as of how he unfortunately just didn't score goals when given chances and new striker talent like Orri Oskarsson on its way from the academy. In the U19 Drenge Ligaen, where the youth team competes, they've got 15 goals and 3 assists in 27 appearances (2166 minutes). Then we have the Oddset Pokalen, which I believe to be the cup competition in Denmark, with 2 appearances (100 minutes) and again no goals or assists. And finally the Future Cup, which appears to me to be a competition for even younger players than U19 (2 goals and 1 assist in 2 matches). On top of that we have 5 appearances including 2 goals in the UEFA Conference League. This is all I could find from his time in Denmark. All other entries refer either to his time in Austria, or in Italy. I have no idea how to combine these numbers and arrive at 16 goals... I'll be completely honest, I know very little about this lad (apart from what football manager tells me) If he turns out half as good as he ends up on that game, then united will have a superstar on their hand However, they've paid for potential, and the lad needs to be afforded time, patience, and due care and attention. He's a young boy, Still learning the game To compare every young striker to haaland is just not feasible. Haaland is a freak, a cyborg. Given time, patience and the right coach, I believe hojlund will flourish

£70+ for that kind of player is mental. ManU making the Chelsea mistake of buying young talent WAY overpriced. He’s good no doubt, but iirc, people weren’t sure if someone like Haaland wouldn’t have to pay a massive farmers league tax after shooting the Bundesliga into oblivion for a season and a half. Here you have a player that has spent a few months in a top league and surely left a mark but nothing justifying $70 mil just yet. Feels very similar to Mudryk honestly. ManU for 12th this season then?

as a Juventus fan, and somebody who has seen Hoejlund play many times in serie A...this is way too much to pay. He was linked with Juve as a potential Vlahovic replacement...and most Juve fans were sceptical...especially when it was reported that he would cost 40-50m euros...well if I was hesitant at 40m euros...73m pounds is insanity. He's decent, a good prospect...he's not the next Haaland though, and I fear Man Utd have been had.

It’s an ill advised “meme” move. Already United got ETH who’s seen as a “poor man’s” Pep. Now RH is just going to be seen as the poor man’s Haaland. Unless he can outsmash EH in the Prem, he’ll always be in the shadow of a meme move. RH had the hype and I’m sure the talent and drive. He should have stayed or at least gone anywhere other than United when taking into consideration having space for his own career development. This is without even considering that ETH could be sacked even before he makes his debut. Too much of a rushed move IMO. Olise in contrast made a good call not to rush things. To back himself to develop and that good opportunities will come.

@les_crow
@les_crow Год назад
Sancho isn't the problem, United is. Notice that when Ronaldo moves anywhere the entire dynamic of the team changes to accommodate him. PSG didn't accommodate Messi so he struggled. These are some of the best of the best. United needed to have looked at Sancho's situation in the BVB team and asked themselves if they were able to fit that into their tactics to enable Sancho, they didn't - cue struggles. Too many managers are more interested in what they want to play over what the players are suited to and how they can fit together. It's not even that hard to do tbh, you just need to care about something other that your opinions and feelings.
@RedDevilRundown
@RedDevilRundown Год назад
@@les_crow this is true to an extent. But the premier league is different to other leagues, because every team is so good. This makes the tiny details very important. So each player has to perform within a system. This is what people mean when they say a team performs in "moments", it's where a system is not fully implemented and individual talent shines. You will get away with this in a lesser league but found out in the prem. It's why players take time to settle, they need to learn team movements (where and where not to be during a game).

Dane speaking: It's worth noting who coached FC Copenhagen during his time there: Jess Thorup, a very conservative trainer playing boring football. If he was coached under the likes of Neestrup, the new coach, it might have been a very different FC Copenhagen story. Maybe they would not have needed to bring in Cornelius then, who arrived after Højlunds departure.
