In this video, we interview Kim Riddlebarger about the identity of the Antichrist. What is the Antichrist? What does the Bible say about the Antichrist? The historic Christian faith holds to a conception of an "Anti-Christ" figure derived from the Christian scriptures, particularly The Book of Daniel, Thessalonians, and Revelation. This Antichrist is foretold as one who will “speak great words against the most-High and wear out the saints of the most-High, and think to change times and laws” (Daniel 7:25). He will also "He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God." (2 Thessalonians 2:4).
But are these figures in Daniel and 2 Thessalonians future apocalyptic figures? Or was Daniel referring to a contemporary Hellenistic ruler of Palestine, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who attempted to root out and destroy Judaism? Was Paul's "man of lawlessness" referring to Emperor Nero? The reformers were convinced the Antichrist was the Papecy or more specifically the Pope, while some modern scholars believe that all these historic men are an archetypal type of the future baddy we all know as THE ANTICHRIST!
