As a Türk, me and my friends always joke about that. One time we scared a Spanish student with the "yamyam" thing. Tho I have no idea why Türks making the Türkish language one day decided to "Hey it would be one hell of a funny if we made cannibal translate to yamyam". Edit: I learned that it's called yamyam because yamyam is an African tribe that eats human flesh or something like that.

As a moldovian, my favourite aspect of it was just how silly yet accurate everything was. The video, the song, all of it was relatable and hilarious. The energetic song, while sung in romanian sounds as if it was russian-influenced, which is what some people argue the "moldovian language" is. All the references to Moldovian history, tradition, stereotypes and jokes just made it my favourite, and honestly there's very little bias in my rating.

I'm german :D The thing is that at Eurovision most of the time Germany gets last place or one of the last 5. We had a party of 60-70 people according to the results only if we are the last place. It's a cultural thing that Germany loses every year. It is one of 5 countries that put the most money into the event. Australia is there because they celebrate it a lot and have a lot of spectators. But I always look forward to all the songs.

Fun fact: last time Ukraine won, Australia got second place. (I think we entered because we kinda actually like Eurovision and have a large audience for it... I don't know why New Zealand also doesn't have a large audience, although it could be due to Australia having a lot of European ex-pats and New Zealand not having them, although I'm not sure.) Edit: Coming from the nation that called two deserts the Sandy Desert and had to distinguish them by size (and has a good history of mining), I'm glad that we're well positioned for the shortage.

Actually, having deserts doesn't solve the sand shortage. The shortage is of river/sea sand because of its usage for making concrete, and desert sand is too smooth to be used in concrete.

To this day, the Meuse-Argonne offensive is the deadliest battle in the history of the United States Army, resulting in over 350,000 casualties. When the US entered the war, they were inexperienced and not well equipped to fight the trench war. They fought the war as if it was 1914. Germany wasn't even particularly afraid of the US. They have just defeated the more powerful Russian Empire on it's border.

They didn't really have time to wind up before the end of the war. The next time someone in Germany thought that USA would be a total wet rag... USA was kicked up into such a ridiculous overdrive that it continues to this day.

@@Kr-nv5fo The portrayal of the US as a Superpower in 1918 (much less 1914) is incorrect. There was nothing to "wind up" and no overdrive. All the dominant Superpowers of the time destroyed each other in WW1. Czarist Russia had the highest losses and went into a devastating civil war and the subsequent brutal rule of the Soviets. Germany suffered enormous casualties during the war, lost a lot of its territory and had to pay ridiculous reparations because of the Versailles Austria-Hungary was dissolved. The Ottoman Empire fell apart. France suffered huge losses during the war and its industrialized north was destroyed in the fighting. Britain used its colonies to fight the war, which was the first step towards the dissolution of its Empire. It was a giant power vacuum that the US used to become a Superpower. (Japan too by the way. That is how they managed to conquer major areas in the Pacific.)

10:43 this is referring to Indonesia invasion of Timor Leste. the invasion was done because when Timor Leste got their independence from Portugal in 1975, they became communist. Indonesia's president at the time, Soeharto, REALLY despise communist, so.. annexation. Timor Leste is occupied until 2002, where they got their independence, making them the youngest country in Asia (and no, that's not Papua New Guinea. this is Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬, and this is Timor Leste 🇹🇱)
