vince=best but lebrons pretty nasty too....mj too...those should be anyones top 3...dominique kemp obviously but wades really underrated....hes an amazing dunker ...just check out wades top dunks on youtube they're sick
+Iceman0113 Nah, you must be about 20 or less. Shawn Kemp is the best in game dunker ever. No one had his flare, power, speed, style, personality, and finesse. Vince is a poor carbon copy of Kemp.
The thing is, in my opinion it's Vince Carter. The dunks he did in the 2000 Dunk Contest proved his absolute dominance in creativity and power combined. Kemp was insane and will always be known as a dunking legend but I think there's no doubt arching the crown to 'Vinsanity'. Just look back at the windmill 360 again and the in-game dunks. Eventhough the list of players who come close is rather limited, Vince is the absolute dunker. Complete in every department of dunking
I love Open Court. Great show. But I'm getting really tired of Kenny Smith always talking himself up, and I'd like to see more Kevin McHale because he has a great perspective and really knows his stuff.
He was just pointing out that what Shaq calls a dunk by most people including himself consider a dunked on. Calm down hater. The whole point is for them to speak about their experiences in basketball and their points of view.
@@DefyMG I think what he's trying to say is that Kenny's opinions don't hold the same weight in a room which Shaq, Chuck, Reggie Miller etc. Kenny is an ok analyst, but you do cringe sometimes listening to him trying to give an opinion.
@@MegaHariboboy Kenny is allowed to voice his opinion the same as the next man, he's paid to speak like the rest of them. He's a multiple time champion, and while not a superstar, he was a valuable role player, with first hand exp of the game. His opinion is as valid as anyone.
Vince Carter reinvented dunking. He's the greatest dunker in the history of the NBA. 2000 slam dunk contest was no contest. In- game dunk? Look up his dunk in the 2000 Olympics when he jumped over a 7-footer! The year 2000 was the year of Vince Carter in his prime and best!
Not criticizing your choice, but were you alive to watch prime Dominique? Or have you just seen horrible pixelated video? There is a reason the crew kept saying "vince in the dunk contest, dominique in game"
dunk by is when people dont really try to block you but just put a hand, dunk on is when the guy really tries to block your shot and what shawn kemp did is called a murder!
+ripppking good for them to be experts but don't forget that everyone thinks his era was the golden era. Like chambers , seriously!!! Maybe this guy dunked once lol... Maybe the idea of the show is basketball history but don't tell me Vince is not the best in game dunker. I would actually go with some players who were as good as Vince in the all start dunk contest but nobody dunks as good as Vince in game.
Shawn Kemp is the best in game dunker ever. No one had his flare, power, speed, style, personality, and finesse. My favorite player of all time Charles Barkley got it right, Shawn Kemp my 2nd favorite player of all time.
Kemp had a highlight dunk almost every game, Carter did not have nearly as many dunks he was a jump shooter who could dunk. Kemp lived to dunk on players hard and with style he only shot when he had to. Also his defense, rebounding, and shot blocking was the same way Carter was lazy on all of those. He had good dunks in a contest yes but no way is he better than Kemp in a game or overall. Kemp would reign down on him. Go watch Kemp's All-Star games and dream team footage also. He was dunking like a madman every game, Carter had one memorable dunk. I seen both play their entire careers so I know. Kemp also dunked from almost the foul line two-handed in that McDonald's High School game. Vince who?? Lol. My favorite player of all time Charles Barkley got it right, Shawn Kemp my 2nd favorite player of all time.
sirbrad4 Different style of player. Kemp was a PF who naturally lives in the paint. Carter was a slashing guard, not a jump shooter. As a slasher his offense starts at the wing and ends in the paint. Where the trees live. Kemp would start his offense in the paint, and that usually ends with hard finishes around the basket for a big. It is different. Both Carter and Kemp were some of the greatest in game dunkers I have ever seen. Also, check out some of Carter's highlight dunks. He had some of the craziest oops, and windmill dunks in heavy traffic I have ever seen.
Saw it in High school. One of Kevin Garnets high school teammates. Ronnie Fields. The kid he dunked over was 6'8". The kids stood straight up, didn't lean or anything and Fields went right over top. It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen. And KG got to see both just feet away from it.. Before a car accident broke his neck Fields was SPECIAL!
I think they gave too much importance to "dunk on/posterize" dunks. If in-games dunks mean every type of dunks, IMO it's Vince. He had it all : poster dunks, power dunks, high fly dunks, insane alley-oop and mostly creative dunks (360, 180, windmill, tomahawk, reverse, etc, etc) Through his career, I think VC probably has like 200 different motion dunks. None of those legends had an alley-oop like him, none of those legends took a 360 dunk like him. Heck, even few of them have done a windmill.
The disrespect of Vince Carters in game dunking ability is incredible. Vince is the best dunker. PERIOD. TMac is another down right disrespectful dunker but Vince got it. And I watched Nique bang on plenty of dudes as I ain't a youngin.
These guys just had to shout out all the people they know so they don’t get in trouble. Everyone knows it’s Vince in dunk contest and the game. I mean the highlights for Vince go for hours lol
Vince Carter hands down best in game and dunk contest dunker. In the Olympics, Vince Carter literally jumped over a 7'2" french guy (center) and dunked the ball. Greatest dunk of all time!!! Dunk GOAT Vince Carter!!!
As far as in-game dunks and doing it multiple times OVER people, it was Dominique and Shawn Kemp. Vince Carter is somewhere in the top 5, but he rarely dunked over anyone that wasn't shorter than him
If we're basing this strictly on how many vicious posters a guy has, then Blake Griffin may be at the top of the list. I don't think any other player has the catalog of legit posters on people that Blake has: -over Kendrick Perkins -over Mozgov -twice over Gasol (in one game 💀) -twice over Aaron Baynes (also in one game 😂) -over one of the Plumlee brothers (one of the most underrated and underappreciated dunks in NBA history) -over Ibaka -I could go on.... Also Jaylen Brown has a very impressive catalog of posters and doesn't get the respect he deserves as a dunker
From the planet Lovetron. True story, Daryl Dawkins came to my neighborhood court. And shot around a little. He was funny. And nice. I grew up in South Jersey, outside of Phila.
Theres been some great dunkers in this league, T-Mac, Jason Richardson, even Desmond Mason, Lebron, Kobe. But Vince Carter was called half-man half-amazing for a reason. I vote for him.
Not even close...... stupid question. 😂🤦🏽♂️ Vinsanity did stuff that made you feel the way MJ made you feel when he played. Just unbelievable stuff. Things that didn’t seem possible but he did it, and did it with ease. I mean.... WOW!!
I think its carter, but guys like Dominique, Kemp, Dr j have a debate. Go watch some of niques posters dude was off the chain. We've probably missed the best of Dr j too in the aba dude was doing Gianni's type stuff in the 70s
You have a guy on the table who flew over a 7' 3'' center as if he wasn't there. I guess according to Shaq that'd be "dunking by" but I don't care, nor, apparently, did Weiss, because that dunk ruined any hope of a NBA career for him. It was so brutal his own nation's TV commenters couldn't stop laughing at what they had seen. Vince was the best in game dunker for sure, and unless someone shows footage of anyone else doing the same as he did in the Olympics, it'll always remain that way.
Lots of greats in that category. I just have way too many pictures in my head of Dominique and Michael’s soul crushing dunks in games to not give it to those guys. All respect to guys like Vince. The smoothest and prettiest dunks are Jordan. He’s got a bunch of in your face dunks too. I just can’t not give the in game dunk title to Jordan. I’m not mad at you if you go with Vince though.
Shaq, good point abut dunked "on". Yes Kenny, we know 'dunked on' also means 'dunked by', but Shaq's not tying to reinvent the saying, he's simply pointing out that only one person has ever 'literally' dunked on him, which shows his incredible dominance - to scare the best dunkers in the league to not attempt a 'face over face' facial.
I don't think any of the names they mentioned ever fully cleared a 7'2" guy, balls flying over the top of his head, giant guy left standing there like "where the fk did he go? Did he fly away??" and to top it all off it was in the Olympics. I think Carter wins both.
Guys shouldn't judge them, they played through the 90s and saw it up close and person by the time Vince Carter did his thing in 2000s these guys were busy post retirement to take note
Shaq has a point .... I remember DC dunking on him .... was his 1st or 2nd year in Orlando and a Sunday afternoon game .... he also pulled the whole goal down to the floor his next game there .... but other than that I can’t remember shaq getting posterized again .... he was just so massive.... granted he wasn’t a true shot blocker like zo Ibaka in his okc days Ewing or mutumbo which is partly why but also he was just so big that he intimidated guys.
Shaq also put people on the floor if they tried to dunk on him. He didn't say it here but everyone knows that Shaq would try to hurt you if you tried to dunk on him.
I can't for the life of me see how someone can say anyone other than Vince Carter with a straight face. That's like naming people with a meaner punch than Mike Tyson or naming a better running back than Barry Sanders. Anyone can sound plausible , until you truly do a high light contest. The truth is undeniable
Difference between Vince and MJ, was that Jordan would score 35, embarrass you while dunking, and most likely have the win when it's all said and done.
Nzinn73 lot of candidates but I am going with Michael. Maybe vc is number 2 for me. Michael had the horizontal dunk over people, never saw that from too many guys. He did that to Joe Dumars. I have been inside Joe's office a couple of times. I should have left a poster of the Dunk there. Lol
They are fighting it so hard they know its VC in all those categories before Ernie mentioned “greatest dunk contest dunker” someone was quick to say Vc instantly!
Vince carter no doubt about it . Y’all are crazy . And Vince definately dunked on shaq, olijawon, and jumped clean over Weiss how are y’all not mentioning that when you talk about dunking????
Jordan wilkins Dr j Carter. But Jordan is the greatest in both caterogeries. There's alto of great dunkers spuds webb that year in the dunk contest Tom chambers. Tracy mcgrady. The 80s had alto of great dunkers. And 90s. Kenny could dunk good Kemp. WAS a beast
Vince for both of course. But how they skip over Frobe Kobe & Low Cut Kobe posterizing so many bigs In Game? They forgot Scottie Pippen sick dunks also. Gerald Green, JR Smith, Stromile Swift, Amare Stoudemire, Blake Griffin, Desmond Mason, Jason Richardson, Ricky Davis etc.
There are lots of great dunkers that were able to dunk on 7 footers. Vince is the only guy I’ve ever seen dunk over a 7 footer. Until someone else does that, I’m not even going to entertain the idea that there may be a better in game dunker
