Chi blocking literally paralyses. It not only stopped Azula’s powerful bending, but incapacitated her entirely meaning she couldn’t even fight without it. Maybe wouldn’t work against king Bumi though cause he could probably bend with his eyebrows.
@@bmona7550 I mean, I guess they kind of have to be... It's gotta take a rather ridiculous amount of power to actually pull off, well, most of the really impressive things that earthbenders can do...
...until she meets Piandao, the man who intimidates the entire fire nation army so badly that they're afraid to arrest him for deserting the military...after he killed 100 firebenders in one battle...by himself.
@amokriinprolgiid3409 I'm not gon lie if tylee can get close which is definitely possible he's cooked unless he can bend like bumi with different body parts such as eyebrows
I agree, Sokka beat two comet-powered firebenders with only a sword, a boomerang and a single hand while lying on his back with a broken leg at the edge of a war balloon and using his other hand to keep Toph from falling.
I don't think she invented it, but she was probably one of the first to use it as a combat art, based on the fact that nobody had a goddamn clue what was going on the first few times she slapped the bending out of someone.
The one that develop it is prolly medical experts. And she is prolly not the one that integrated it into martial arts. Its prolly developed across generations.
i’ve always believed suki ranks higher (either that, or they’re evenly tied)than ty lee- especially after she was taught how to chi-block by ty lee herself. suki mastered hand-to-hand combat, and her aerobic feats are absolutely no joke (the warden capture, for instance). plus, she’s incredibly strong and agile for someone who’s covered completely in traditional, kyoshi warrior armor (clothing that appears to be heavier than the light clothing ty lee usually wears) nearly all the time. then yk she’s skilled with fans and other weapons. that’s why i’ve believed suki to be more skilled than ty lee (again, either that or they’re tied, which is actually extremely likely given their fight in the boiling rock, above a MOVING gondola of all things)- though i will admit that ty lee was stronger in some areas at one point (especially acrobatics)
Ty lee is such a deadly opponent. One tap and she just ruins an entire limb. Come on even korra could sometimes over power the chi blockers and continue bending. But ty lee's chi blocking was on another level.
I'd add here that in LoK chi blocking is a generally known thing, making benders expecting it, having their strategies to avoid falling pictim to it. In Avatar Ty Lee's opponents are caught by total surprise to what and how she does to them, which makes her greater performance over LoK chi blockers a bit more about she using an unknown way of combat and less about her individual superior skillset. Not as if she wasn't a total badass already:D
not sure 'deadly' is ever a way to describe Ty Lee. you would never win, but she'll also just incapacitate you then just go beat up some other person with a skip in her step not undermining her or anything. she just doesn't seem to have any killing intent ever lol
@@cyjanidybel well if she knows the weaknesses of the human body that could be used to paralyze someone then she definitely knows those that can be used to kill someone , besides , avatar was supposed to be a kids show when it came out so they didn’t have much freedom
Honorable mention to Amon’s Lieutenant with the electric rods, he was able to take on Mako and Bolin at the same time whilst also being a formidable opponent against Korra.
This feels entirely appropriate to me because for the life of me I honestly can’t remember a single time Ty Lee actually lost a fight. She got held off long enough for a retreat a couple times, and surrendered at Boiling Rock, but I don’t think she ever lost a fight on screen.
She also got stuck in earth when toph encased her arms and legs. That wasn't exactly a fight but she couldn't do anything afterwards even if she wanted to.
It seems you mean "who was most effective non-bender" I'd say Suki is stronger than Sokka in combat and strength, but Sokka is better general and keeping his own
@@dalton2592 weak as in a literary sense or as in a strength sense? I agree in the literary sense, but in the strength/power sense that's not true at all. I'm almost every single kids show I can think of with a trio, the trio usually has 2 weak ones and 1 strong one. As the show goes on the weak ones learn to be strong and develop as characters. I suspect Suki would definitely outmatch Sokka in a fight, which is why I think she's a stronger non-bender than Sokka.
@@zaviaplummer7988 you're kinda treating both Sokka and Piandao a bit rude there. But as much as I agree with Piandao being a better swordsman than Sokka by a long shot, the way his list goes seems like he takes in other achievements apart from fighting of it helps them in the series. And we don't get to see much of Piandao since he was a minor character.
@@zaviaplummer7988 I'm sorry but sokka could use his sword to literally cut a Boulder in half while they were training against the melon lord and threw his sword with enough force during the final battle of the war to cleave off the end of a metal platform bro is in no way physically weak💀💀
You forget that Sokka might be used as a gag character but he's actually really resourceful. He's a tactician, strategist, warrior, leader, swordsman, boomerang man, blacksmith, cartographer, detective, poet and hunter. He's best described as a jack of all trade.
If you can keep sokka above piandao from whom Sokka learnt, then Suki can also be placed above Ty Lee as in the end she teaches chi blocking to the Kyoshi warriors.😂
sokka is higher because sokka has a lot more than just swordsmanship going for him most notably his strategic mind and his creativity giving him unique outlooks, in terms of overall ability he is stronger. he would definitely lose a 1v1 against piandao if piandao was serious, but if the two were to compete in say a full fledged battle sokka would win due to his ability to lead, create plans, and improvise as needed. piandao is a bit too stuck in his ways to be a good leader in the same way sokka is
@@notroxaDude, if he would lose in a 1 v 1 vs Piandao, then he's weaker. This isn't about leadership, this is about strength and combat ability. Sokka is by far the weakest here from a combative standpoint. Just because he can make a plan when he has a team of the strongest people in the world behind him doesn't make him a good fighter.
@@enigmatic3194 If Sokka helped developed the subs past that point then yah sure but the mechanist says "your original drawings were a bit hard to decipher." meaning sokka "came up with" and drew the idea and then the mechanist made it happen. Master Piandao has to be the number 1. He is a deserter, but he resides peacefully in the Fire Nation, dwelling in a grand castle-like abode. He commands both fear and respect from the Fire Nation after defending himself by defeating hundreds of soldiers and firebenders without breaking a sweat just by himself. He has mastered every martial art and weapon known to man. Not only that, during the day of Sozin's comet, he triumphantly conquered Ba Sing Se alongside just a few members of the Order of the White Lotus, fending off hordes of firebenders and soldiers unscathed. Trained since childhood, he has never tasted defeat on any battlefield throughout his life.
Ty Lee's basically a family-friendly assassin. She's only strong cuz nobody suspects she can chi block or fight back until she's already in your face like what she did with Azula. She was pretty much useless when team avatar caught on to her techniques and kept her at bay.
Canonically speaking Piandao was was on another level. He rose through the ranks of the fire nation army. And trained the elite such as zuko in sword fighting. We only got a taste of his feats in ATLA. Very underrated character.

Now, people here mention how he killed 100 fire benders in a single day when they tried to arrest him for deserting, which he did. But, what people seem to be sleeping on is the fact that the fire nation never bothered him again after this. Ozai legit decided that he didn't have enough soldiers to arrest this man, and decided to leave him be because he couldn't take him. He's got that "John Wick, Baba Yaga" reputation, to the point that the entire government and military of his homeland is afraid to bother him because he's so busted. He's even more feared than John Wick. In fact, the only characters I can think of that can confidently say could beat him are Yakone, Tarrlok, and Amon. Purely because bloodbending without a full moon is so obscenely OP.
I know we don't actually get to see him without bending, but I feel like zaheer deserves a mention considering the prison he was in before he got his bending.
No after rewatching the show asami is underated she was trained since she was a child in hand to hand combat easily taking down equalist even without the gloves and is rather smart being an engineer
I feel like Suki could definitely take out Asami, she has more experience in evasive tactics that would allow her to get the upper hand on that glove, and she can definitely defeat Sokka in a fight too
Yeah. People have this habit of overestimating the OG team avatar. Like people need to think they are the best ones at everything they do. Sokka is really smart, and he can fight. But he’s not that good and Suki could probably beat him
Suki soloing an entire airship and steering the thing using rope, all the while not secured to anything at risk of falling hundreds of feet below. Truly holds the title of a warrior of kyoshi
Suki would destroy Asami tbh, Asami knows martial arts but Suki is an incredible fighter plus she actually fought in a war, unlike Asami, so she has far more real combat experience
Ty Lee was deadly and hard to beat. The only thing that stopped her from causing more damage was her naturally kind spirit and get bothered conscience at the end of the series

Honestly, despite the fact that Azula actively fought for an oppressive, tyrannical empire, she's surprisingly pretty progressive in terms of how she views people. Considering the fact that she's the princess of a firebender supremacist empire and a prodigy in the art of firebending, you'd think she'd view nonfirebenders as inferior to her yetshe doesn't. She could've easily hired an army of the most skilled firebenders of her empire if she wanted to. But instead, she chose to hire just two non-benders to be her personal henchmen/assassins. You could argue that Mai and Ty Lee are her friends, but Azula doesn't strike me as the type to hire someone just because she's friends with them since she's too much of a perfectionist to do that. She values competence and capabilities above all else. Ozai may be a bad father, but the one thing he did right with raising Azula is allowing her to get trained in firebending by nonfirebenders (Lo and Li). It allowed her to recognize everyone's talents regardless of bending abilities, age, gender, etc.
Zaheer is probably the strongest non bender in the series. Considering that before he got air bending he was the strongest member of the red lotus even with P’li Ghazan and Mung Hua as bending masters. I wish we got to see Zaheer without bending because I imagine he was an absolute monster
Amon was like a non bender for a little over a season in LOK, without bending he still pulled off some amazing feats and took some benders out with ease
Sokka shouldn't even be on this list. He gets beat by everyone on it, and I can think of two nonbenders on the list that are more powerful, being Mai and the Lieutenant from Amon's army.

Ty Lee, on the other hand, got captured shortly after chi blocking Azula, instead of fighting her way out of the boiling rock. Piando actually defeated 100 fire nation soliders who were supposed to arrest him and after that the fire nation army just decided to not bother him anymore.
I could see fire benders adopting flaming swords or handles that they run their fire bending through to create wide sweeping attacks or concentrated slashes Earth and metal benders might stay relatively the same because of earth benders like the dai lee using rock armor hands that were very effective so they might develop more usages with rock armor, whole Korra already showed us some cool metal bending weapons like cables Water benders I'm not really sure though
True. One thing I'd like to make fun of though that during the drill episode (can't remember episode title) Mei jumped out the drill, threw some knives which were blocked, and she did nothing else. Ty Lee then joined in and swept everyone while Mei was just there.
Mai is skilled to a certain extent when it comes to wilding weapons/blades but she doesn’t really care about winning or losing she just fights cause azula (her bfs sister btw) asked her to.
I still feel like Mai deserved a spot on the list, I mean she started learning the art of knife throwing out of boredom, and managed to become skilled enough to pin a person down by their clothing without striking their actual body. Maybe I’m biased bc I love goth girls

I think piando should be higher. When he deserted the military the fire nation sended soldiers after him. He took down 100 fire benders alone, and then the fire nation was like nah we aint sacrificing more soldiers to that absolute demon.
