LD and LCW are spectacular in that after all this time I think they are (if not) the only players who you could say became bigger than badminton itself. They contributed so much to popularizing the sport.
@@danlagi. Football is more popular, but LD and LCW are bigger to badminton than Messi and Ronaldo to football. To be honest, I think Pele is bigger to football than Messi and Ronaldo ever were. Pele was an inspiration for colored people to play football and made it as popular as it is nowadays where Messi and Ronaldo only won a lot of individual titles.
For sure hendra & ahsan is most likely the idols of current double players, they've got so much respect and be in the top for so long. But i'm a bit shock with LZJ's answer because almost all malaysian's badminton idol is LCW but his answer is a bit different but for sure Chen Long and Victor are among top of the players for a long time
I think it's related to how LZJ wants himself to be based on his physical attributes. As a tall man, it is understandable that he wants to be like Chen Long or Viktor Axelsen who are tall. He clearly said he tried to play like them.
@@lexsoft3969 nah...Malaysian already know LZJ more admire chen long and viktor...LCW sometimes not agree with LZJ like left Badminton Association... zii jia does not love to play under government sports organisation.. instead train himself at viktor's place and get his own sponsorship...however its also good for him...thats what i heard..
Natsir was a damn legend. Only GL (Gao Ling), MJ (Ma Jin) and ZYL (Zhao Yunlei) could really hold a candle to her. The only person in the new gen I feel emulates LN spirit is probably HYQ
For role model in attitude, respectfull, integrity, fit body, Ups and down mental siklus i guess The DADDIES is the Living Idol (They still playing in high level) Such a legend.
@@awaluddin0846 that's one reason. But many players have children also. I guess it's because of their seniority. Hendra's first final was 22 years ago. Some of the players he's competing with now was still baby back then...
but he was detected doping. he n lin dan are the best but rudy hartono won all england 7x 6 in a row. no one ever did that. but rh is not really consistent
same. LCW is my favourite badminton player of all time. It is because I am a Malaysian Chinese. I was born on 8th December 1997 in Brunei. I am a Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity.
LD change everything of the men's single, before him there is only attacking or possession playing style. he combined both into one and redefined the playstyle with a great success which extended his longevity.everyone is studying him but have no clues how to counter his playstyle. he is a player that ahead of his own era.
Kento Momota sums it up for all... This sport is everyone's efforts in the arena ... There are legends always but the new generation of players are sweating it out to make this game recognised at a global level... 🙂🙌🏼
for me: Lin & Lee current players: someone I don't dare to say his name as I know I'd get laughed at after watching this interview I guess TTY & Momota & Watanabe were saying they had no idol since they see themselves as ones and that's fair enough in my book Momota 's defense & stamina back in 2019; TTY & Watanabe 's tactics esp Tai's deception and Yuta 's (i couldn't figure out any specific word to conclude but I'd say he always returns shots in the cases where his opponents thought he would've never returned and even won the rally) back in 2020 or 2021, there was this little activity where BWF asked players to pick players (one from each of 4 or 5 categories) and form their own prefect player, I had Tai and/or Watanabe and/or Setiawan and/or Kevin Sukamuljo for intelligence
i dont know why...but for me my idol in badminton i only admire to him..the one and only..KEVIN SANJAYA SUKAMULJO.. i think he is badminton perfect player even i am from malaysia..but in his era i always n very excited to watch his playgame..full of entertainment not boring..his accurate, speed, clever, defence, full of skill..no one cn be like him..
@@tanahairku9005 yap, dia juga yg jadi peringkat 1 dunia selama 202 minggu berturut-turut dan mendominasi hampir semua pertandingan yg mereka ikuti.. Man it was sick you know, 202 weeks its almost 4 years
I am shocked to hear Yuta's and TTY's answer 😂! But I guess they don't have to be inspired by someone to be a living legend like themselves. They are example of those who pursue their passion and pure love for Badminton ❤
@@nafis2495 Would you prefer they lied? Or given a generic diplomatic response like Kento? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honne_and_tatemae I mean... you don't have to have an idol in your field to excel in it... Many do, but not all...
To be honest, Setiawan is living the life that probably all badminton players wish they had. Many titles under his belt, and still able to play till almost 40.
@@ismakiyah9238 Not every era has daddies. Daddies are who play well despite their ages are approaching 40. From the era in 1950s, 1960s where there were legendary David Choong-Eddy Choong, Finn Kobero-Hamegaard Hansen, through 1970s, 1980s where Tjun-Tjun-Johan Wahyudi, Christian Hadinata-Ade Chandra, Park Yoo Bong-Kim Moon So, Tian Bing Yi-Li Yong Bo dominated this men's double, to this date, only Hendra-Ahsan who play well in their age approaching 40.
Same. However, I still like Datuk Lee Chong Wei more than Lin Dan as I am a Malaysian period. And Lin Dan is a closed 2nd favourite badminton player of mine behind DLCW.
to me which reflects my age, I would consider Rudy Hartono as the most naturally gifted player there ever was and should be rated as a living legend of the game, considering when he played the game it needed more physical ability as the games was harder then, the weight of the racket alone would be a struggle for current players to use.
But the question is not about who is the most gifted or talented player of all time so your preference towards the great Rudy Hartono(indeed, this legend is an absolutely gifted and the toughest player to beat back in the day during his era). However, if you say again that your no 1 idol in badminton is still Rudy, then thats a very good one you pick but sometimes being the most gifted doesnt necessarily means they are also someone else's idol (in their mind). For example, i can say the most gifted player that i ever witness in badminton is Lin Dan, but my no 1 idol is LCW although Lin Dan is a close second or third. Or i can say, among the women's badminton field the most gifted player for me would be, TTY due to her insane badminton skills but my no 1 idol is a tie between Susi Susanti and An Se Young due to their intensity and the extremely physical in nature and durable game play in nature that they can force their opponents to endure in order to win a match
LZJ's answer is quite surprising. No mention of LCW. He said Chen Long and Axelsen. He said he tried to play like them !!! No wonder, I don't see any styles of LCW in his plays.
LCW is a sore loser. You can lose some important match, but u cannot have a good feeling just because there is people supporting nevertheless. He have all the qualities to become a world champion but the lack of self demanding to improves his perseverance in the big moment is the reason why he never reach the top of the world.
@@jesskew6619 What's with the "out of no where" bashing? Do you even know what does "sore loser" mean? When did LCW ever complained about his losses? Sometimes in life, if it's not meant to be, it is not meant to be. Not necessary that he has to win everything. Just like how CR7 hasn't get to win the WC yet.
@@jesskew6619 oh wow, your opinion. I guess you were training together with him and really understand LCW to the core that you confidently stated he's a sore loser. Come on, you can have your opinion and idol but just please don't talk bad about others. You can praise your favourite or even worship them, but just don't downgrade other. Have some respect.
@@jesskew6619 are you kidding me? just because he didn't win olympic and world championship gold does not mean he is a sore loser or lacks 'self-demanding' He got silver so many times and won just about every other title on the world tour, and also did this while in Lin Dan's era and carrying his entire nation's hopes. He also is a great sportsman just like many other great champions like axelsen, taufik, lin dan, momota. Next time think about your response before you disrespect someone who has devoted their entire life to their sport.
Lzj can't play like lcw due to his height. He belongs to the group very tall player in badminton. Very tall player who excels in badminton are Chen Long in the past and currently Axelson.
for me, theres only 2.. lin dan and hendra setiawan. they r the GOATs in their category, both in terms of achievement and playing style. they r unique and artful. the depth of their badminton cant never be replicated bcos it is beyond just physical and mental field, that many can achieve. Their understanding, anticipation, reading, control, efficiency that separate them from the legendary players.. its like how we see messi playing football. Its the same as these guys too, in badminton.
@@traytyler9951 cai yun? Hendra won over him in everything, deception, speed, anticipation, longevity, skills, arts, mentality, titles, major titles. Both on court and legendary status, what's even more outrageous is, he still can beat 2023 md world champion seo sung jae in 2023 japan open at 39yo..
@@nizfarjuniadi6998 Rudy Hartono's achievements were all won right before China entered the competitions ..... so its hard to guage his place in history frankly .... I know its not his fault but considering how China was so huge in badminton since their entrance, its reasonable to say that he's lucky there were no chinese player to take away at least some of his share of big wins ...
i love to watch viktor axelsen and chen long... because of the control they display... i learnt alot from their style too.. i am almost 6'.. for doubles.. i like the indian pair.. chirag and rankireddy... they are so good.. also yuta...
Feel like everyone just loves and appreciates Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei but seem to forget about a 3rd player who essentially formed the triumvirate of badminton singles and that was Chen Long
im from philippines, 🇵🇭 and i love badminton, my favorite badminton players is Lee Chong Wei from malaysia🇲🇾 and Anthony Ginting from indonesia 🇮🇩 why? LCW. very respectable, humble. kind, even more looses before he become a Legend, he never quit, Ginting, ive never seen e trashtalk other player, silent but killer, and i like him deception style and very humble. respectable that why i choose of three. ❤ and kento momota from 🇯🇵 kind humble
Lee Chong Wei and Yuta Watanabe. I love their agility and superb defense although they don't have top physical body like ld, Viktor and Chen long. Just pure hard work.
He was not consistent. He had much more talent left but he stopped playing because of his fight with organisation and lazy issues. He didn't win any medal after 2006. Not 1 medal. Not even super series title. All of them were kids in 2006, so they didn't know him.
Yup 3 silver but for me it's both of them bcs sometimes it's not always about the playstyle or how good they are but sometimes it's about the attitude of the player
They were mentioning absolute legends only and somehow my respect truly flew past the sky when some of them idolize legends that aren't from their own country 🙏
For me it’s Momota himself… I like his style the most, compared to Axelsen, and he earned some hefty stats before the accident when he was World No. 1. It’s kind of sad that he can’t seem to do as well now but I applaud him for continuing amidst the criticism instead of quitting
I grew up during Indonesia golden era of badminton Besides all Indonesian players, my favorite is Lee Chong Wei. His agility is insane, and he plays super smart as well
Past women players might be disappointed by the answers of those women players. Past players like Lene Koppen, Zhang Ai Ling, Li Ling Wei, Susi Susanti and Xie Xingfang might say : "Who they think we are ?". Susi might say : "I am the 1st Olympic champ and won world championship. I won All England 4 times." 🤦♀️
It's not necessary! Sindhu is already 2 times Olympics medalist and 5 Times World Champion medalist ! Won mostly prestigious BWF events like World Tour finals , Asian Championship , etc . Why she will choose other female player then ??
10 years later.. The Badminton athlete ath that time get the same question and i bet.. Viktor, Momota, Kevin Sanjaya, Yuta, An SeYoung, Ginting, TTY are on the list,, Pin my comment and Let's watch this Video again in years 😂😂
My badminton idol is kidambi srikanth, I don't care about achievements, just looking at his game makes us realize how this game has to be played, extreme sport intelligence and skills (especially 2017 srikanth)
I feel the same way but I think he does have achievements. He was the world no. 1 for a week. Won silver medal at world Championships(the only indian to do so) . Commonwealth Games silver and bronze medalist. And not to forget he probably has the most superseries titles for an Indian mens singles player. (Buy duration he probably had the best prime out of all the men's singles players... Probably lakshya will match him in near future)
Iin Dan is still today the best singles badminton player in have ever seen.. Guy can attack defense incredible stamina to play long matches and his mentality and patience especially in decisive points is just unmatched.. A lot of players will just smash when given the chance.. He is the only one that would rather rally with you even when he has the chance to smash and he would still do it during match point.. Best footwork I have ever seen too..
Why noone pick zhang nan eventhough he won four world championships and two Olympic gold in two discipline...?.. Zhang nan is such an underrated player.
