Who Killed the Nanny? (True Crime Documentary) | Real Stories

Documentary examining the murder of a young French nanny, 21-year-old Sophie Lionnet, who was starved, tortured, severely beaten and murdered by the pair she was staying with; Sabrina Kouider and Ouissem Medouni. Her burned body was found in the back garden of the south London home in Southfields, borough of Wandsworth.
Apparently, Sabrina Kouider believed that Sophie was conspiring with Sabrina's ex-boyfriend, Boyzone- founder Mark Walton, who Sabrina Kouider had an unhealthy obsession with after their split. Sabrina Kouider evidently tortured Sophie to confess with help from her new partner, Ouissem Medouni, while recording their interrogation. Tragically, Sophie Lionnet was murdered by the pair, who tried to cover up the burning of her body by starting a barbecue in the garden while burning Sophie's body in barrel.
Featuring interviews with friends, Sophie's mother, Southfields neighbours, and Old Bailey reporters.

🚨 If you are traveling to another country alone, use these tips: 1.) Find out the address of the nearest Embassy for your country. (Before you leave your country of origin.) 2.) Have a CODE word to use with your family, in case you are in trouble! (Plan this ahead of time, before you leave on your trip.) 3.) Make a habit of calling your family on the same day, at the same time. 4.) Don't be afraid to ask for help, not everyone is evil.

I think it’s great. Also good to add: - never give your passport to others or leave it unattended. - have all the contracts, agreements, emails exchanged printed out for easy consult ( not every abuse case is this horrific, but anything that doesn’t respect the previously agreed should be discussed). - also good to know where hospital/police and etc are. And in case of going to a place that speaks a different language, learn some words to ask for help.

I was friends with an American nanny here in Germany. The girl was made to work crazy hours making very hard for her to have a social life. When you live at this people’s house 24/7, alone and away from friends and family and working long hours with children, it gets to you. You don’t have life experience to deal with abuse. So for those saying: why didn’t she walk away? Perhaps they even held her doc and passaport, not. To mention the love you have for the children... it’s very complex

I was once a nanny in Denmark to a controlling family. I was overworked and the alarm signal went on when my woman employer told me that I wasn't allowed to go to the basement bathroom (closed to my room) when her husband taking a bath. After a few days I found a new family then I left them. I was alone, not knowing anybody in a foreign land. But you must listen to your guts and leave as early as you can. You don't need to ask for help you just need to go. I think if you are born with a very secured community or family you are vulnerable for abuse. A lot people are crapping all over the chip shop owner, but he's the only one that offered her a job away from all this, and to even fly her away. Idk how it is over there, but I know here where I live, it can be very difficult to bring abusers to justice without the victim wanting this as well. If it's the same as this, imo he did what he could by offering her a guaranteed ways out, but he's just not in the position to psychologically help her and push her towards choosing these options.

I see a lot of "I would've done more. " & "the community is just as guilty". It's very clear that these people have no concept of abuse & what lengths the abuser will go through to be seen as normal and isolating their victim. The man did what he could, he can't grab her and drag her to the cops. He couldn't even get her to accept his help. She was terrified. She had been broken down by a mind who knew they had to make her question any helping hand and made sure every time she thought about a way to leave Sophie would have Sabrina's voice in her head that she won't get far. It's disgusting, yes, but there is only so much an outside party can do without the victim's cooperation & determination.

21:52 This is exactly the kind of mentality that most people sadly have when they see abuse happening. It has nothing to do with them, so they just walk away from it. Only when there was a fire hazard that could've affected others was Sophie's torture and suffering brought to the authorities knowledge. There were so many who could've helped Sophie before that, but no one had the courage to get involved. She was let down by everyone and makes this even harder to watch.

If you can't reach her, if she can't reach you-time to step in with Police. Need to know where she has gone and take note of who she is with for sure. To know she seemingly had no way to speak for herself, and no one looked out for her is absolutely heartbreaking.

Speaking from experience, leaving an abusive relationship is VERY HARD! However, thank you to God, he gave me the strength to leave my parents house because nothing on the street couldn't be worse behind what was happening behind those 4 walls. I became homeless leaving on the street for at least 4 months but I work hard and never compromised who I was. Now, I own a beautiful place and is an executive at a fortune 500 company. The 2nd time was a socialpath and abusive husband. When he went to work, I escaped and left the house with just a few of my clothes and shoes and NEVER looked back. It wasn't easy cause that ordeal put me in a massive depression but I can honestly say, I am better for it. I know my value and don't take crap from anyone anymore. If anyone reading my post and finding themselves in the same predicament, don't be scare, there's a light at the end of the tunnel, just start crawling out. The shop owner said that he didn't have time to help her, and that there was only a week in between when her body was found and when he saw her last. Apparently he couldn't help her when she came into his shop crying because her employer beat her? Or even when Sophie was dragged CRYING to his shop by her employer and being screamed at in front of his shop? He could have easily called the police if there was a domestic dispute. He could have easily said "A girl who comes to my shop is being verbally abused by her employer in front of my shop. The employer beats her, and I'm pretty sure she starves her. I'm worried for the girl's safety" But instead, he decided it had nothing to do with him, and he just went back to opening his shop. Domestic abuse needs to be taken more seriously by the public, and this is just one of the many examples of what happens when domestic abuse is ignored by the community.

Nannies and Au Pairs are very vulnerable - everywhere they go to work for a couple. Primarily because in one sense or another all married couples are weird. This one was (also) a certifiably criminally-insane. And it resulted in extreme harm, and torture for what that poor girl suffered before they killed her. All nannies and au pairs need to be checked on at least once a week by an agency or by somebody. By law - these checks should be done. And remember, couples can easily hide weirdness for a while, or it can erupt anytime. Better still, Parents: don't allow your daughters to do this job. Babysitting of/for an evening, maybe. But do everything to dissuade or prevent daughters from this lark.

A friend of mine worked as an Au Pair in London to a very posh family. Both parents were bankers, but wife decided to become a stay at home mom when they got their first child... with an Au Pair. The mom was constantly out shopping, not paying much attention to the kid. She was spending so much on bags, that was constantly holding my friends salary for a month or so, because the husband was not giving her any more cash and she was supposed to take care for the house expenses. There was that one time, when my girl called late in the evening to chat, and at some point burst into tears. Turned out the couple and the child went for a long weekend to ski with friends in Switzerland, on a private jet, but turned off the heat in the house. In the middle of a very cold winter. And my friend who had spend the whole day in warm coffee shops, was now back in the cold house, freezing under three blankets. As result, she got a really bad cold and quit as soon as she could. They were just not considering her a human.

@@nisha8298 i agree with you Nisha, however, im not talking about purchasing ticket or getting her a job etc... These are the things where she would have to take a brave decision, which she was incapable of at the time but, if a simple call were to be made to law enforcement, it would have taken away the burden of taking any decision on the her part cause the police and or the rescue personnel would have taken steps to help her based on her condition. Also, with them being present on her side, she would probably have found the courage to speak up, thereby helping herself. Instead, he chose to not get involved despite knowing her situation. As far as the two women are concerned, if you listen to their account, they had no idea of the extent of her suffering, having said that, they too are at fault for not reaching out to help but not as much as this man who knew her situation quite well and choose to not inform the authorities. Lastly, if you're responding to someone's comment, try and keep it respectful so we can have a decent discussion. The ending of your comment was really not required. @nisha8298 4 года назад
@@Devil-fj6ou I'm assuming you believe you're reading the situation correctly and others were just blind- sighted?! Firstly, it's an observation...an opinion even, same as yours. After it's all over, it's easy to pass judgement and say he/ she /they should have reacted. Yes, her ghastly end shocks those who knew or thought they knew what something was amiss, because it's not something most people are used to. How many times do we hear the phrase, " nothing ever happens here", " safe place where everyone knows each other", and then bham, the most horrific of crimes happen seemingly out of the blue. The red flags may or may not be there, but most people like "normal". So, the point is violence , especially domestic violence is so common, that even when people, relatives, friends, even the victim knows what's happening, it's kind of something people shy of talking action against for various reasons. Everyone is so hard on the community yet they all assumed she was family- that no one expected her to be an au par because it would’ve been too expensive. (How many hours she worked) Also the chef said he didn’t understand the French they spoke. Some people just keep to themselves. This is no ones fault but the two who inflicted her death. Particularly Sabrina. As for Sophie’s mother- I hope you can find peace... love to you from the USA.

Really need to drop the assumption that just because someone has kids = they're incapable of malicious, horrific acts against other human beings. So sad to hear about. R.I.P. Sophie Lionnet.

Why did no one call the police even when they knew Sophie was being beaten? Why didn’t Sophie go to the police?

I don't think people even imagined that was going on.

So let me get this straight....the "neighbor" hears these two monsters screaming "breathe! breathe! breathe!" but then did nothing about it? How bizarre. And why wouldn't the girl have left when she had the opportunity to do so? She could have gone back to her family in France as her mother said she sent her money for a plane ticket? It makes no sense to me?

These neighbors and shop keeper had a chance to save Sophie even if she didn't say something. That's why we always have to assume everything when you see a person in distress and we should do everything our power to help someone.

This is heart breaking, those two are monsters but several people in the community enabled the abuse by remaining silent and looking the other way. So freaking sad

Who said capital punishment was barbaric? These 2 murderers absolutely deserve the death penalty for what they did to this young girl.

That girl would have been safe today if someone out of the community would have either helped her get out of that house or simply report the abuse to the police.
