Leamington Spa in Warwickshire, UK, is well known for being the game development hub of the UK, with CodeMasters, FreeStyle Games (DJ Hero, Guitar Hero Live), Mediatonic (Fall Guys), SEGA Hardlight, Epic Games, Rebellion, Xbox Game Studios and many, many more all having a local presence here.
Silicon Spa is a temporary exhibition showcasing all these and more - 50 studios in total - taking place until May 9th at the Royal Pump Rooms in Leamington Spa. So let's see what it's all about!

Just a clarification to a small mistake in the video - the Forza Horizon series is made by Playground Games, not Codemasters. I think I must have had Codies on the brain after the first part! FWIW, it was founded by ex-Codemasters staff. Just a passing mention but I can't let mistakes go unacknowledged. 🙂

Skysaga was a pretty neat Minecraft-clone with some clever tricks up its sleeve. It was sadly really short lived. Thanks for the tour!

Oliver Twins, local to Leamington!?! 😱 I'd claim that they be from Wiltshire, good 'n' proper - in fact their former comprehensive school has a building named in their honour. Codemasters snapped them up whilst they were young whilst developing Super Robin Hood and the original Dizzy, so they left this hole for the Silicon Spa for where I remain eternally jealous of them. 😝 Great to see them being recognised for their talents. Keep up the excellent content as always Rees! 🤘😎

Ahh wow, I grew up on the old Dizzy games, loved some of them, but not all. Fantastic adventures and treasure island were my favourites.

Hate to be "that person" but Forza Motorsport was developed by Turn 10 Studios based in the USA. You're thinking of the spin-off Forza Horizon series that was created by Playground Games based in Leamington Spa, which was started by two ex-Codemasters developers.

2:37 Skysaga: Infinite Isles was an sandbox MMO type of game with optional player PVP system (you went to the colloseum afaik and that's where the fights took place) so not really a battle royale, plug was pulled on it by Smilegate shortly before Open Beta dropped, heard it was done because they wanted to shift focus on Maplestory 2 which as we can already see the effects, is already offline. Unrelated to it, the exhibition is super cool, wish I was in UK to experience it with my own eyes!

I worked for code masters in their warehouse way back in the 90s . They used to make mega drive cartridges there and the quality control was shocking 😂

Very nice, too bad I'm not local to the area. Some pretty great studios in the area. And I had no idea that the games by the Oliver Twins were that big in the UK. I mean I knew they were a thing, but 7% of UK game sales? Wow! Too bad that ATD did not have at least a shy copy of Cybermorph or Battlemorph in some corner, but I guess the games that followed after that were the ones they were more proud of - and certainly earned them better money. Anyway, thanks for the tour!

I have the Chicken Run game! The PS1 version but it's the same game on both. The minigames are all a bit crap but the core gameplay is pretty fun and actually resembles Metal Gear Solid. No, seriously!
