I really appreciate you giving such honest and complete reviews of these cubes. So many youtubers will make a few first turns, maybe call out a few minor issues, and then end with excuses like "but once you have it set the way you want the system won't matter" or "maybe it'll be better once it breaks in." Here, I have confidence that your opinion is as honest and complete as it possibly can be, and that's invaluable.
I don’t understand why cube manufacturers don’t just make a small batch of a prototype and send them out to top cubers and famous RU-vid cubers to test out for like a month. Include a survey about what’s good, bad, and needs improvement. They can take all the feedback and make changes before mass producing it. At least then the cubes would not sit in warehouses collecting dust. Or perhaps YJ should stick to what they’re good at big cubes, megaminx, and the squon. Or perhaps make a YJ Skewb.
With the MGC Square-1, YJ did prototype it with top-10 squaners for quite a while before it was finally released - I believe the prototype actually had a 'glossy' finish but for whatever reason (perhaps cost), the release version was closer to matte. Also, I much preferred MGC's old logo.
i'm only sub-30 and the cubes I enjoy most are the ones that feel unique and satisfying to turn/solve. But I really like the first MGC EVO. Still looking forward to trying this 2nd version.
"only sub-30" don't sell yourself short! you are a real speedcuber no matter what you might see from other people. But anyways yeah I'm kind of with you... I don't always go for the fastest cubes, I just like things that turn smoothly and quietly with relatively weak magents
@Alexander he’s not going to DM you back pal. Get out in to the world, find a job, a career, maybe some friends, maybe even a girlfriend you never know. Sitting around waiting for a message back that will never come from a cubing RU-vidr who has no clue who you are and never will won’t lead to happiness my friend. Good luck with your life, I promise things will get better and you won’t feel so alone all the time.
wow very interesting, I enjoy the satisfying turning on the cube but I am yet to find a setting that has performance that fits my turning style. It just feels a bit flimsy to me. Also that center cap lol
Great video, it makes me really glad to see reviews that aren't afraid to be critical of cubes. I'm still definitely considering this cube because I loved the v1 before the core broke, but I think I'll just wait to try one at a comp
Thanks Phil, do you think a third party strong core magnet system would help? It may combat the overturning and allow for more axis distance which may alleviate corner cutting issues.
If you have the money get this cube. If your not on any price range just get the X Xan Tornado V3 flagship or the Moyo Humang Ys3m Ball Core (BC) in my opinion.
With the numbers for the compression system, I'm wondering if taking a sharpie to the ring with the numbers might make them readable, with the sharpie only marking the raised parts of the plastic and not the recessed parts. Not that anyone should have to do that to a cube (X-Man's design of number legibility is what we should be getting from all manufacturers) but maybe this could at least salvage this misstep a little?
