I don't think SF shredder would have been the better shredder, he looks like half cartoon half 80's action figure too bulky. NECAS would be the supeior shredder
I have a greater appreciation for the Neca figures after watching this video. I own the Figuarts ones myself, I prefer the lighter, brighter, more happy look for the turtles myself. While the colors on the Neca are more cartoon accurate, I'm not a fan of the angry look the lot of them have. Also, the head sculpts are still based on the Turtles arcade game, with wider faces and thinner necks. The Figuarts line seems to have the heads at a more balanced, rounded look like how the look in the cartoon and the merchandising. Still, either set is good choice.
I bought the Necca because of the value of having 2 figures for the price of 1. But at the same time i must buy Leonardo on the SH Figuarts which is my favorite Turtle.
finally got my set of the SHF, couldn't be happier with the $160 i paid. lots of surprising detail on them as well including articulation that most of the reviewer missed; the shell is on double ball peg (can move independently), the waist band is actually rubber that has flexibility which means you can actually use the torso joint (by pushing the collar bone to lean the torso back or pull on it to lean forward, or just simply pull the ball peg for the shell adjust the torso and plug it back). Is the torso movement that noticeable; probably not, but i love these detail Bandai put into these turtles. And it's one of the few figures that can actually can do a cross-arm without any problems.
I have the NECA set. They’re really incredible, and I feel like they capture the look of the show far better. That said, I really wish the QC on the NECA figures wasn’t all over the place. My Michelangelo set had a broken nunchuck and a bad paint scuff on the head of the foot soldier. It was the only set my Target had, so I bought what I had to, and I fixed Michelangelo’s nunchuck pretty easily. Just wish I didn’t have to.
I guess it can boil down to one thing... Posing. Do you do a lot of posing with your figures? A lot of figure photography? If so, I'd go with figuarts. Neca may break down after a while posing.
But that's the thing....In the Cartoon the turtles were Dark green. The light green coloring is from all the modern art of those turtles where they make them bright and colorful. In actuality NECA's turtles are more accurate to the actual Turtles in show
I have the Neca set and I'm scared to handle them without first warming them up with a hair dryer. I would love to grab a set of the Figuarts because they look like more sturdy and better articulated with fewer QC problems.
I like the detail of both but $50 each seems insane. I have the TMNT Movie version variants made from Neca from Gamestop and they look like the same tier of quality but were only $20 each.
I like the NECA releases better. Not a fan of the brighter green, i like NECA's screen accurate colours. And im not too fussed about SHF having more articulation as i dont actually play with them so it isnt a factor for me.
If I didn't bite the bullet and drop 300 (shipped) on the NECA to save Uber/train money (I technically only over paid like 50 bucks) and to not use up 6 hours of my only day off, I'd be happy with the SHF one's. Both are great but NECA are TMNT masters. SHF seems to be more like Archie Comics TMNT.
Thats how it was here in Dallas, i was roaming 8 targets the past 4 months nothing.....then bam no warning 2 weeks ago the target closest to me suddenly had 3x set of them. Idk how neca restocks but i noticed super targets in prime / busy area gets better restocks. Just wait
There were three out of four of them at the Target nearest to here as of last night, but having seen them in person, I don't consider them worth $50+. You could preorder them from Zavvi for between $75 and $80.
You say Raphael is the best but subconsciously you had Mikey front and center, obviously mikey is the best 😉. Also, great content, keep these comparison videos coming!
@@UnparalleledUniverse exactly! Im a Leo, Cap, and superman fan. People who like Ralph think batman could beat superman and wolverine could take cap lol.
the revoltech nick toon turtles are actually really good as well! as far as this comparison goes, i went with neca too. i got the SDCC set for the toon turtles and arcade colors, as well as the movie turtles set. After getting the movie turtles im pretty much retired from collecting anymore turtles haha totally satisfied with having all these, and i think the revoltech ones are tons of fun as well. Hopefully i can get this year's set of neca movie turtle villains!
I own the shf, neca, neca gamestop and even revoltech but my favorite is the Neca Arcade. There's something on that set that I love more than the rest. At the end all are awesome in a different way.
Can't tell you how helpful this video was. I went ahead and hunted down all the NECA figures. I got them all and I'm just waiting on my Leonardo and Shredder package to come in the mail. Thanks! ❤️
Not gonna lie Necas been doing some crazy stuff for US action figures putting them neck to neck with bandai honestly.I haven’t bought any of their products since Ryu Hyabusa but from what I’m seeing they’re pretty top notch.
Bandai didn't abandon the line btw. any and all working prototype needs to be approved by the licensee and Bandai is known to show prototypes and come back way down the line to produce them when they feel like it. it is also possible there are some underlying cause for Bandai to halt the progress for now knowing nickolodeon are a-holes when it comes to giving licensing to other company to make money off TMNT.
I wonder if SH couldn’t meet the lineup that Nick wanted...maybe they were taking too long. In the end, I think the metal legs screwed them. Too high a price point and took them too long to produce.
The big turtle nose, the nose, figuarts captured that look much better. It's figuarts for me all-day everyday But I wish it had Necas paint details and accessories.
The SH turtles are not based on the 80's cartoons, they are based on the TMNT marketing design which is completely different from the 80's cartoons in both design and colors. Thats why the SH figures have big noses like that..the big noses are from the marketing design, not the cartoons. NECA on the other hand nailed the 80's cartoons look perfectly, they are 100% accurate! The turtles are supposed to be a darker green like the NECA figures, and thats also how their nose is supposed to be too, thats how they were in the 80's cartoons. Both the design and colors are 100% accurate on the NECA figures, they really nailed it perfectly!
Never thought I'd see the day that an American company beat a Japanese company at anything. The only thing that the Figuarts have on the Neca figures, is articulation and extra heads/hands. Neca definitely put more love into their turtles. All neca needs to do now is work on the articulation.
The Figuarts figures look more like the designs from the merchandise, rather than the actual cartoon. The Turtles on t-shirts and stuff were always that brighter shade of green, with the sort of rounder design.
Great video bro! Figuarts did the same thing with the power ranger stuff. They would do 1 or 2 from some teams and none from others. Some would be con exclusivs ect. Love the neca set though!
I think the biggest problem with the Neca ones is: how do you find them at a decent price? They're so good and popular that it's almost impossible to find them cheap while the Figuarts still available in some places.
They haven't come out yet, but apparently Super 7 got a license for TMNT and will be doing figures in the same size/scale as Masters of the Universe Classics, so that should be interesting.
For me it's SH.Figuarts They also have die cast joints and there silver buckle is die-cast, They stand better, pose better and I prefer the lighter color, they feel very sturdy and premium. No wonder they don't make SH figures the same way anymore, they are made cheaply now. Light Weight junk. So they are set apart from the rest and now are worth up to 150 $ each new. I feel they where over looked and people didn't appreciate them until later
@@UnparalleledUniverse I recently got the tony stark , iron Man edition sh figuarts It's a joke, the arms and legs pop off so easy, it's very lightweight and flimsy, people are asking 200$ online lol And no one wants mine for $50 lol it's pathetic how low the quality is now
Shf much more like the marketing stuff. The stuff that was on the bed sheets and cereal boxes. I LOVE the die cast feet on SHF but neca is just too good.
I got the NECA 1990 version game stop exclusive ninja turtles at Forbidden planet in London a few days a go and I love them, NECA makes the world best ninja turtle figures! By the way Mikey is my favourite!
See i love everything about the neca figures except the cell shaded look. Its good but only from one angle(to me) from the side it looks off. Also i love the photos man! That one with the figuarts turtles getting upset at the loss is amazing
love the video and everyone is entitled to their opinion, however wrong they may be ;P the figuarts blow the neca ones out of the water in my opinion. It boils down to aesthetic for me personally, with articulation following close behind. The NECA turtles just don't look like the ones I grew up with. The NECA turtles have too much forehead/dome and the faces themselves are too wide. Also look fairly lifeless/dull (totally subjective). I will be looking to pick the NECA ones up for the villains and accessories tho.
I got the S.H. Figuarts when they 1st came out. And then saw these Neca ones at my Target but because they only had 3 of the 4 Turtles I didn’t get them, because the one missing was Leo with Shedder. At the time I really only wanted Leo to get the Shedder he came with to put with my Figuarts Turtles. Now our Target doesn’t even have a space for the Neca Turtles so I missed out. The Turtles I really wish to get is the TMNT movie versions by Neca. I miss the days when something was new they could be found anywhere. Now certain Targets or Walmarts get them when others never see them in store. Man I miss the days of K.B. Toys and ToysRus. :(
The figuart tmnt are the highest quality figures i own. That being said i agree that bandai totally abandoned this line and Neca is fully committed. So i think support the company that is about to cranks some allies and villains out for this property. And if you have the extra dough then buy the figuarts too because they’re beautiful
sh figuarts has always made quality figures with incredible articulation. but as you stated, the accessory count between all figuarts trutles is very minimum compared to the neca turtles. i've honestly been having a hard time choosing between which turtles to get. and given i'm sure as of this video, there was neca figures of the turtles out in targets. but as of this writing, there's none and its extremely hard to even find them in any targets right now (least in my local area). color wise, the recent rereleases of neca's figures now have that bright green color scheme that the sh figuarts turtles have, but still have that nice accessory count. again, all these are unfortunately sold out and hard to find locally now. so my only choice is to get them via 3rd party sellers. the haulapalooza turtle sets that i've seen are all 170-200 while sh figuarts turtles varies with raph and mikey being the highest. combined sh figuarts potentially exceeds neca by being 230$ total.
I don't agree that the NECA turtles are more accurate to the cartoon's colouring. Just looking at screencaps now on Google, the NECA turtles are way too dark and muddy coloured. Their colour does change from scene to scene, but I still feel like the Figuarts ones are closer to correct. I think the problem with the NECA colour, is not that it's darker, but that it's murkier. It needs to be more vibrant.
I have all 4 Figuarts TMNT (when I bought them the NECA's weren't announced, yet), but since Shredder never made it past the demo display, I later on got the NECA 2-pack of him with Krang.
Hey, fantastic video! I have to agree. I love the NECA set. Haven't completed it yet (have Leo & Donnie's two-packs) but they're great! I had the SHF Michelangelo and I just wasn't too into it. The die cast paint really flaked easily on me and it bothered me to not be able to push the legs far forward. SHFs had articulation advantage everywhere else, but that forward movement is pretty crucial for any figure. Still a really nice figure, just didn't click with me. While not the most articulated I can strike pretty awesome poses with NECA's figs and that's all that matters to me. Cool villains are just an added bonus.
Thanks man! Thats unfortunate that your Mikey had flaking on the legs, I have been pretty lucky in that regard. I don't think people give the articulation of NECA Turtles the respect it deserves, you can definitely get them into great poses and the legs actually work better then the figuarts legs.
The head shape of the SHF turtles is much closer to the original cartoon and they are very smooth/natural looking. Neca turtles heads are kinda squeezed a little bit from the bandana below. Like, they are wide and flat. Idk, they just look weird really.
Many positives throughout all the figs. Both give a great accurate look to different references. I don't have any but I always held off the SHF and even though they look great and cartoony, overall I would rather have the neca's. I still need the sets, but mostly want Donny and Krang first. Great review man!
I think this comparison could be made: NECA TMNT - recreates FW series S.H Figuarts TMNT - recreates Playmates interpretation of the FW series for promotional material and merchandise. NECA is my favourite then.
From the rumors I’ve heard is they will be in scale with their MOTU line so probably a little bigger? I don’t know. What a time to be a fig collector, huh?! 🙌
Neca all day. Their figures are usually a bit more expensive but as a proud owner of several NECA products I agree it’s worth it. I have Greyback (predator) and the wave 2 donnie Leo 2 pack.
The NECA ones could be the actual Turtles from the 80s/90s show. The Figuarts ones could be the over-the-top exaggerated versions of the 80s/90s Turtles from Turtles Forever. LOL
I think figuarts abandoned the line because sales didn't meet expectations. If they really wanted to grab the target audience they should have done more. They did a great job on the engineering but the overall package was severely lacking at $240 for the set.
I think Neca wins overall because they have the best sculpt, accessories, and value. Sh Figuarts only really has the articulation because the paint job is pretty toy-like (not as in the vintage figure but as a normal toy look) it’s too glossy and looks like cheap toys, it’s cool that they have more weapons but I don’t remember those from the show. Neca just put more care into these figures and because they have the villains it’s better for posing
Super7 will soon be showing what they're going to do with the Turtles licence, so if they go down the animated route as well, there may be a third set to compare (regardless of what they decide to do with the licence, I'm really looking forward to their figures - they do great stuff, and I love the Turtles)
The NECA figures are perfect, they replicate the 80's cartoon look perfectly, its an easy win for me. I want my TMNT figures to be based on the 80's cartoons, which is the case with NECA while the SH figures are based on the TMNT marketing design. I dont like the TMNT marketing design, its completely different from the 80's cartoons in both design and color. NECA nailed it perfectly
It all comes down to if you prefer the promo look or the intro/first episodes look. For me it's the cartoon look all the way. Plus, I was never a fan of the die-cast parts used with the Figuarts ones. I had to end up ordering many from B&N cause they kept arriving with paint missing on the foot. That metal really shines through.
ngl i saw both of these and just assumed the neca ones were for the red sky seasons of the classic series lol, they really do look like the red sky redesigns lol
I like to use the neca version as the cartoon turtles and the figuarts as the Archie comics turtles since we haven’t got proper representations of them yet
Honestly feel like the figuarts are more color accurate when comparing to the show, the neca ones are super dark and weird color. But neca is better for the price, IF you can find them or willing to pay scalping price.
This is a tough choice for me as well. I still haven't gotten around to opening them because I have no room and no time what so ever. Once I get a chance I will open the NECA figures first.
i think the color choice for the SHF is more based off a lot of the merchandise images found on varies products as you said. at the same time you showed the intro of the cartoon, the color of the intro is closer to the SHF, lol, so color is pretty much up to interpretation (keep in mind 90's cartoon aren't drawn with the consistency as today's cartoon or anime, so the intro to any cartoon back then has the highest quality and most accurate colors during production). as far as sculpt goes SHF looks more like the cartoon and the neca is from the arcade game; proportion is also better on the SHF. i think it's the basic factor that neca did came with more accessories that were nostalgic to the show, so a lot of people "thinks" neca is better. however if you really look at the sculpt and detail there's no question SHF is superior (yes they do lack some shading). if you also pause the intro, you can see mikey's nunchuck looks exactly like the one SHF has (also Raph's sai). personally i'd buy the SHF and try and find the turtle-com on ebay as accessories. i do have the movie nece turtles btw...those are awesome. the problem with the value thing is the NECA set can't be found regularly and if you find them on ebay as you said it is $75 at the cheapest and personally NECA quality isn't worth $40 per figure with inferior joints design that will loosen or break over time. SHF on the other hand rarely you see that issue with adult collectors that buys them.
The neca ones I got from the Turtles in disguise set, 1 of the turtles came with a crooked leg and it just looks weird, for me it would be more of a S.H. Figuarts + Neca accessories 🤷♂️
Neca and sh figuarts both have some bad ass ninja turtles. But the variety of turtles from neca takes the cake.... Seriously the movie versions of the ninja turtles from neca are toooo sweet!!!! They are my faves!!!! And neca did the 1/4 scale ninja turtle figs!!!!
I was the same way about remembering the cartoon looking more like the SH turtles. It's crazy how our brains made things so much more kick-ass when you were younger than they actually we're. Like being on acid.
I wanna believe the SH figures represent the classic whaky turtles from season two onwards while the NECA ones represent the season one and intro bad ass version.
For such a long time I could never find the neca cartoon turtles. I must have checked like 10 different Targets here in Jersey with no luck. Then finally after what felt like months of disappointment I found a full set a ran out the store to purchase them before someone else could have. I was so happy. Honestly I was ready to walk out with every turtle pack they had but felt I that I need to leave some for the next collector. I would hate to block someone else's chance of getting a hold of these.
