It’s amazing to see how Colin is the face and star of the channel but Jamie seems to have captured the hearts of everyone. I feel like parlay is as much about Colin and Jamie’s friendship as it is about Colin living his sailing dream.
If ever someone loses all of thier hydrolic fluid, you can use vegetable or canola oil as an emergency replacement. Old fisherman's trick. So great to have Jamie back!!
I love that you are back to sailing, fishing, and of course racing! That’s where the fun is and now you are finally being rewarded for all your hard work.
Colin I noticed that over the years we have been servicing the yanmar SD50 and SD50-4T, the cone cutches last for an average of around 750-850 running hours. There is only one Lagoon I know whos cone clutch lasted 1200 running hours.
When I saw Parlay pull out ahead, I was overwhelmed with emotion. All I could think about was how proud you must feel; not from leading the race but from enjoying the fruits of your labor. You started this channel to inspire others.... consider this goal reached! I'm a 56 yr old International airline pilot who has decided to retire early and move to Thailand and go LIVE LIFE TO IT'S FULLEST! After all, you'll regret the things you didn't do.❤
So good to see Jamie’s infectious laugh bring a happy vibe back to the boat ,hey hey and first fish 🐠 again caught on Parlay, shit yeah,Tom you are a definite asset bro keep smiling, this is a good team, cheers Colin.Oh just a thought, maybe because Parlay isn’t flopping around like a sloppy pig and the standing rigging is in correct adjustment possibly could be the reason she points better now up wind, dunno just my thoughts, safe sailing.Benji I owe you an apology brother you were there from the start safe sailing mate.
.... the rewards of doing it right and not compromising your values ..... thx for the share Colin ... as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Awesome job Colin, the Aussie tum tum😂 and the team glad to see all your blood sweat and tears have paid off glad you have your brother in arms back on board Colin kia kaha Parlay
While you were talking about the feeling you had, sailing better. , I would use the word 'Validate.' Your thought process and assessment of the broken bulkheads, and how that catastrophe effected parley, clearly, by stiffening up the hulls, allowing the rig to be properly tuned, validated your overview of how great these cats can be, with proper attention to construction and sail trim... Your engineering skills influencing the repair job, has paid off. Well done to you and the team... Validation...
Colin, when are you going to design and build your own boat? That is the next step! You are there my friend you are there! Love your videos. Thanks for taking us away from life‘s rat race and bringing us to some dreamland!
Maybe a leather glove for catching the drone would be better. Seen so much hands getting sliced up catching with bare hands. Very cool video, boat race was fun to watch.
Having more speed allows you to point higher (I can’t explain or comprehend the physics here, but I’m sure someone on this channel can explain), that why ice yachts can sail directly into the wind or you can head up a few degrees in a puff. What is exciting is why you have more speed, stiffness of the hulls could be a factor, as is your clean and recently faired bottom / wetted surfaces, your stiffer rig was sure to help also as it keep the top of the sails from opening up and provides a better more efficient foil. Congrats on the win, it’s always gratifying to see your hard work turned into speed.
She'll be pointing into the wind alot better now because the rigs tuned properly and not bending to the leeward side. Tuner also may have added more rake helps upwind but slows ya down downwind🤙
@@Antipodean33 True. Waterline length increase would have effectively “moved” the Mast’s Center of Effort the same distance forward increasing the ability to point better into the wind. Learned that lesson 45 years ago when Windsurfing was in its infancy.
My jaw hurts from how much this episode made me smile. Amazing to see how well the boat is handling and the pleasure it brings you. Thank you for continuing to bring us along for all the fun times had aboard Parlay.
Congrats Colin and crew!! After all that hard work you put into your boat you deserve that feeling of accomplishment 1000 times over! Your an inspiration to me and many more!!
Congratulations to all that put so much into getting Parlay back better than ever! I’m a boat owner & noticed your sail drives are SD-50’s. Those are notorious for the cone failures. My boat has an SD-60 and has been rock solid for 8 years (knock on wood). Your description of slipping in forward gear sounds similar to many others with the SD-50.
Just want to say thank you for taking us with. Need to get away from all the conflict in the world. Very happy to see the crew you have. Jamie back and enjoying the work he put in is awesome. You have been surrounded by great souls! Amen
Parlay is sailing amazing. That is a true testament to the work you and your team have done. Time very well spent. Can’t wait to see where it takes you. 🤙🏻
Thank you for recognizing & pointing out the life changing process of hunting, prepping & cooking your own haul over a hot fire! Sincerely heartfelt gratitude for that, my friend. Love the race, your increased confidence in your cleaned up rig & the general improved mood when Jamie & Tom are on board. I used to think 'whatever' but, they do add to the safety & flow of the boat! Can't wait for the Pacific adventures upcoming!!!
I think it´s great that Jamie came back just in time to be part of that race. He absolutely deserves it. I very much enjoy your way of editing. Looks live even the parts with they grey filter don´t stand out that much anymore. Great episode and congrats for whinning the race!
Stiff boat = Stiff rig = Fast boat , Keeps the air flow sweet across sails . Well done , Impressive windward performance for a lagoon (Keels not dagger boards)
Another fantastic episode guys. It's great to see ya'll sialing again and I can't want for the trip down to NZ. Just wish the episodes were longer... I only say that because I have watched every episode from the start so it was easy to binge. But I'm so hooked now that waiting for 168 hours each week just for less than 20 minutes just kills me inside. I NEED MORE!!
Boat speed and height, well done. In my opinion its 100% a product of the boat being stiffer. Every bit of flex in a cat is lost power and drive. The best example I can give is, take two Hobie 16 cats that are 10 years old. Their platform and boat stiffness relies on aluminium beams connected into castings and after time they come loose, pull one apart and clue the beams into the castings with epoxy and then that boat will flog the other one as the power is being transferred to drive and forward momentum while the other is loosing some of its power and drive as the hulls wobble around in the swell. As for the transom extension, Im not qualified to comment, but it makes sense it would help as there would be less turbulence and waterline length = speed! Love the show and watch every week, thanks👍
Nice job Colin. Your approach to problem solving is inspiring. I’m sure you will solve the sail drive issue in time. I think you have your answer to your pointing ability. You will get better point with speed and speed comes from your aero and hydro. Both have improved with your refit. A lot of energy from the wind was lost before you stiffened the hull with the boat bending. Now every gust is a translated into power in the rig and as your boat can’t lean over to leak the energy, then it must go somewhere. Keep an eye on that apparent wind and be sure not to stress the boat beyond its (even new) design limits. Look forward to seeing your adventures down under.
You have bullet proof chain plates and bulkheads now dude it help big time going into the wind dagger boards would help even more you guy's did a great job on her repairs and refit.
Colin and family, the aerial view of the Parlay in the race, in the lead and gliding forward beautifully into the wind - magnificent! I jumped up cheering, scared the crap out of my dog...
That's the difference a rig tune makes, also possible your extended water line length helped and the flow off the stern now has reduced drag. Clean hull helps, faster you go better you point.
Very awesome sailing cuz. Love what you guys do. I've been following your channel for more than a year now and this is my first comment. Stay safe Parlay family.
My cheeks hurt from the smile I have Thank you all, Parlay looks glorious splitting waves.... I can't wait to see the adventures that await you all. To the glorious crew, you'll always in my prayers.
Well done Colin and team. Stiff hulls, clean antifouling and tight rigging gives boat speed. Sugar scoops are helping. Totally successful rebuild!!! 😛. Congrats Parley. 🐟
So awesome seeing parlay sailing again. There is nothing quite like having fresh fish over the fire not everyone gets the chance to do it. Its an amazing experience
Parlay is doing well...the crew is eating well and Jaimie is on board..and collin is happy...what more do you want, well done boys, i wait for your vids on sunday night and it makes up for a lot, this is life on a different level, the one i like..🎆🎆🎇🎇🍾🍾
Great video...wonderful content, aerials of boat race were phenomenal. really enjoyed this one - it was special. Loved the gratitude comments at dinner on the island. You are living the dream and sharing it with others. I'm off in 5 weeks for a week rental of a Lucia 40 out of St Thomas USVI - can't wait!!!!
Great video Colin! So glad you and Jamie are reaping the rewards of your hard work. I am a Patreon and watch every week. Believe it or not I am a 60 year old woman who is petrified of drowning. I never learned to swim (my parents didn’t know how to either). I panic when my feet don’t hit the floor. Yet, I am drawn to the ocean. It’s sound calms me. I love how you are living. May the ocean always be your friend. Enjoy the Pacific!!
