I know it's a joke but let's not get carried away 😂 you wear the dress one day only. The man is supposed to be forever xD but that's so cool that she handed it down to the daughter in law or at least to shoot the video

I love that! Not only is the dress absolutely gorgeous. But she went and bought that dress for *herself*. She was showing herself that she was not giving up on herself, she was not giving up on hope - to find a lasting true love someday. Beautiful! 😭
I saw an episode of say yes to the dress where a woman bought the dress but broke up with her fiancé before he final payment. They have a no return policy so basically she could abandon the dress and get no money back on what she paid or pay it off and store it u til she decided what to do. So years later she gets engaged and comes back to alterations with the dress not knowing if it would hold awful memories or if she would use it. She puts it on and she’s like “this is still my dress, that guy wasn’t the right man but this is still the right dress!”
I love that she let you wear it!!! It shows that she loves you and trusts you. As I know if it were my wedding gown, and with such a story attached to it! I wouldn’t be cool with anyone other than like my best friend or daughter if I had one, wearing it.
@@katyb2793 You say that but that lace is top tier; it's finished edge lines up with the waist perfectly, the detail overlaps the front and back neckline of the main body of the dress perfectly too, there's the neck detail on top of that, and it all looks like one piece attached at the dress neckline and zipper. It looks high quality to me, too. Good luck finding this kind of lace overlay as a home sewer. Unless you are are able to make it yourself, you'd probably have to use this as inspiration to make something much more basic.
I did! It was in the window of a bridal shop for £1,450. There was no man on the horizon and I was a financially struggling single mum. About 6 months later a man I'd liked for a while asked me out and 6 weeks laater we were engaged. Meanwhile the bridal shop closed down and a fashion shop opened in its place. Thry were selling off the wedding dresses on a rail at the back of the shop. My dress wasn't there. I tried on a few but didn't like any. The assistant asked what i really wanted so i told her I wanted the dress that had been in the window and she said it was in a box in the store room! She brought it out and I bought it immediately for £50! We've been married for 20 years ❤
This is such a cute and unique wedding dress. I’m not into dresses or fashion much but in the unlikely event I ever wore a gown to get married, this will be on my mind.
That is the perfect mix of pretty modest, yet free flowing, allowing for the female figure to show but yet it's something a young girl could wear. It's sweet, feminine, dreamy and still glamorous in its own way, without any sparkly elements needed.
Yeah I love it. Unfortunately many modest dresses these days are either very plain and boring or too heavy and unfit for warm weather. This one is perfect, modest but light and it flatters the body while not showing too much.
I love that she thought about tailoring it! That's such a good point to pass on. She bought it two sizes up so she would fit it regardless, you either gain weight or you can have it taken in(it's harder to add a size than subtract one). Love the design too. Super pretty.
Since I always have to tailor pant anyway last one I did it. I use 52 (Brazilian standard), it's hard to find big sizes so when I saw a 56 I had to buy it.
Ohh now I remember, there was an Edwardian revival of sorts in the late 1970s. The dress is absolutely gorgeous. It's sweet that your boyfriend's mom let you share it!
Just for the fun of it when I was around 21 years old, I went with my boyfriend's sister window shopping. On the way was a bridal shop. So we stopped in to just look around. The first one I tried on, I loved. I knew that I would never find this one again and it was on clearance. I didn't know for sure who I would marry at that moment, I just wanted it to be in that dress! I think it was $500 something, back in the late 1980's. I bought it not telling her brother (she didn't tell him either)and luckily a couple of months later he proposed! 30 something years later and we're still happily together! So I definitely understand this story!!
A couple weeks before getting engaged, I was at a bridal shop getting a bridesmaids dress, and I saw the wedding dress I'd always dreamt of. Later when I went dress shopping, it was the first one I tried on. I kept an open mind and tried on more, but none made me as happy or feel as beautiful as that first dress. I ended up getting it (even though it was slightly over budget), and I have no regrets. If you like it, get the dress!!!
That actually might be the prettiest wedding dress I have ever seen. I would honestly wear that whenever I wanted to just because of how beautiful it is
No cause I think this is a sign to finally buy this one wedding dress that's been sitting at my local thrift store that I'm literally obsessed with lol
If its in a thrift store it will cost less than the fabric needed to make it. If its a loose fit, or a size up, you can easily have it altered when needed.
This dress looks similar to my mums wedding dress which she made herself based on a picture she found in a magazine. Unfortunately I can't quite fit it into it. I'm a bit wider in the back and have a bigger chest than my mum. My parents married in 1981 as well. Fun fact. My parents had an argument while my mum was working on her dress and mum threw a cup of tea at dad and it splattered on the dress so she got married in a tea stained dress. They're still happily married 42 years later and still have dumb arguments. Coincidentally my sister spilled tea on her wedding dress too. So maybe it's a good omen?
If you're comfortable with altering it, you can add panels to the side seams to expand the back and chest. With a talented seamstress and a bit of time to match the fabric, you'd never even notice.
lol im so jelly of people who can wear like their mother’s/aunt’s/grandmother’s clothes but im a head taller than all of them and we dont have anything close to the same bust/hip/waist measurements
I bought my wedding dress two years ago when I was very single and it was the best decision! It was my dream dress, incredible price, and incredibly rare. Highly recommend
I love this story! I thrifted my wedding dress before I had even met the guy I ended up marrying. I was at the thrift store and found a beautiful 1960s wedding dress and tried it on and it happened to fit me perfectly! I bought it right there and then for $20. Almost a month later, I returned to the store, one last time before I moved out of state and happened to find the detachable train that went with the dress. I ended up having a wedding dress that fit perfectly and that I loved for less than $30! Best thrift find ever😂
Your boyfriends' mom must really like you! Wedding dresses are so special and personal and to let someone wear theirs, even for a video, is a huge deal. You might have a keeper there :)
That is my wedding dress. I was married in June 1984. That is the dress I wore. A few years later I lent it to a friend of a friend who was getting married but they were too poor to have a nice wedding. They couldn't even afford rings. I thought it would be nice to lend my dress since it was just hanging in my closet. (dumb I know). When I asked for it back I was told that she had no idea where it was, she had never used it and so gotten rid of it. I have shed many tears over my lost dress as well as the cavalier attitude of the person who seemed so sincere in their desire to have a pretty wedding dress. When I stumbled across your video, I could scarcely believe my eyes. I have only a few snapshots of our wedding and none of them show the details of my dress. I used to wear it around the house and my husband and I really enjoyed that. I had begun to believe the dress was only in my imagination. Your video has brought many tears, both of joy and of sorrow. I have watched it over and over and over. When I showed your video to my husband he instantly recognized the dress and I was touched to see a few tears well up in his eyes also. We will celebrate our 40th anniversary in June and your video was a lovely, if sad, way to stir us up to pull out our small collection of snapshots of our long-ago wedding. I wanted you to know how much seeing my dress again, even if only on a small screen, has meant to me. Thank you. 💕 💞
This is more common than you think. I used to be a wedding seamstress, and we would get a few dresses a year that were WILDLY out of the bride's size. Obviously we'd ask them why, and be told by the bride that they had been bought them looooong before they had a groom. I always remember one in particular, because she had bought it in high school and was getting married 15 years later... unfortunately, she'd been tiny in high school, and was no so much anymore. We couldn't "let out" the dress even remotely what she needed and she stood in the dressing room and bawled for an hour. It was a rough afternoon for all of us.
@@GG-py9vp She likely did-- but I think she was hoping we would have some magical solution to make the dress work. A lot of people seem to think you can just "stick a panel somewhere" to fix a too-small garment. Brides can be very weird about their dresses; they pack a lot of emotions and fantasies into them, and when their vision doesn't meet reality they take a real hit to their confidence.
I have a dress in coral pink that looks identical to this without the lace and I’m literally planning a baby shower around it! 😭 it’s so pretty I can’t wait to be big and pregnant in it
I actually did this. Saw my perfect dress in the window. Went into the shop to try on the dress. The sample size fit a dream and was half off. I walked out with a dress and a few years later my mom took the lace off her dress and put it on the one I bought. Best $200 I’ve ever spent.
THAT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DRESS I'VE EVER SEEEEEENNNNNNNNN It's so simple but classy, elegant, and it's giving me a princess/fantasy vibes. If ever I'd get married, I keep this dress in mind 😭😭😭
Especially if it's a thrift store wedding dress. I walked away from the wedding dress of my dreams when I was 17. It was $14. It definitely was not still waiting there when we went back for it after lunch. I cried. My mom did too.
I brought my dress in 2009. I was already engaged at the time but not getting married until the next year or so later. £150 from Tiffany's. Always wanted a dress from Tiffany's. One of the last 6 of that style. I got it with help in 2009 and got married in 2011 in it to the same person I was engaged to at the time. We are happily still married. Upside, I was wearing a dress that not every bride wore that year and under £200 with alterations done by a friend for free for the length and adding straps. If you see your dress, get it if you can. Had I waited a year, I would have missed my chance completely. Worth it.
My mom wanted to stitch a white knee length dress for me, but she was lost in thought while cutting the material and ended up making a longer version of it. It became a white long gown, when I wore it and looked in the mirror 🪞 i saw a bride, so I neatly folded it and hid it in my cupboard coz that's gon be my wedding gown. However I don't have a boyfriend and am not even planning to date 😂😂😂
Oh I definitely have a dress I can’t stop thinking about… buuuuuut it’s like $1500 sooooo I’m going to make it myself with a few added flares overtime❤🎉
I have one I've been thinking about for 3 weeks. It was only $100, but vintage and nowhere to wear it. But this inspired me to call to see if it could possibly still be available. Good luck to you too!
I am so that a platform like this exists. What I mean by that is I have lost all my extended and close family. It's me, my daughter and my husband. That's it. It's really fun to watch someone that has a such rich history period let alone through clothes. I just love what you do and my daughter and I love to watch your videos and then go antiqueing. It's a whole thing with us. Anyways I'm going to stop rambling. Thanks for the amazing content. Taylor and Lillian are huge fans
I’ve joked with my best friend who’s as single as me about going into a bridal store and trying on dresses for fun. Now you’re making me think we should do it for real
