Nice Video! Its amazing what a little 25 can do. Ive been back in some shallow trenches bass fishing and watched bass boats high center as i rolled right by them.
I have a 2280 custom tunnel jon that weighs 1500 lbs empty (4000 lbs loaded). With 140 suzuki, 6" jack and trim tabs it will run in 8" at 40 mph. Not sure about putting it in mud as far as the cooling system goes on a 4 stroke, but it provides some major pucker factor running the rivers in TN. Cool video.
On a low tide with a northern blowing those lakes we are in look like mid flats with puddles in them haha...we make it as long as we don't shut em down
It is always getting water through the normal system...I have the motor on a 5 1/2 inch setback and lifted like 4inches...I'm running a custom 4 blade prop that allows me to push through mudd..as long as there is an inch of water for the water pump I can run through it
It's a tilt and trim unit made by cmc called the cmc pt35...and the prop was done by mike hoods propellers in Houston texas...cmc unit cost around 500 and the prop was around 500...looking right at 1000
Believe me I've had to set it down where I shouldnt in order to save the motor...I'm very careful hen it come to overheating the motor...plus it will shut its self off before it blows it's self up
Can't wait till next season I just rebuild my transom on the boat. I now have a 20 inch transom and a 4 inch tunnel. My motor has about one inch of skeg below the boat...was running through a lake with lots of stumps and the boat just slides right over them...il make a video with pics of the new renovation soon
Never had mine in hydrillas...but it will do what a mud buddy will and a mud buddy will go through hydrillas...as far as getting it all for 500...good luck and a aluminum prop won't do what a stainless will because they flex...stainless props are tougher and don't flex and for running like I do it's a must...a aluminum prop wouldn't make it a day on my boat
last question haha can u get a normal aluminum 4 blade prop and do u have a hydro jack on it or manual is there any way i can get all oftbis stuff for around 500 and we have a lot of hydrala plant shit in north florida lake u think that will power throught it
A three blade will get close but won't have quite the low end power to jump on plane in the shallow stuff...get a three blade one pitch lower than you have now with some rake and lots of cupping
Thanks man ill see what i can find jack plate wise and prop but yah i just dont got the money for a mudbuddy or go devil. Anyways thanks how have yal done done ther this season
Hey man! I’m new to this set up but I dig it big time! Looks for some pointers. I have a 1652 riveted boat with an old 35hp 2 cylinder Johnson 2 stroke. Boat runs strong at 37mph top speed. I running an OnTheFly jack plate with 5” of set back, and just ordered a PowerTech SRA4 4 blade stainless with a ton of cup. Even though they don’t guarantee or advertise it, they claim it will run in surface piercing conditions. I don’t have a tunnel in the boat yet... maybe next year. And honestly I don’t need to run super shallow. What I need to contend with it being able to run the motor all the way up, and get on step QUICK, and stay on step with the motor all the way up, as we have a TON of weeds to contend with. If I can get it on step and run on top of the water my lower unit won’t be hanging on them. Any advice for me? I want to make this work 10x more than just buying a mud buddy, as I also have a lot of deep water areas I run that tend to get pretty rough. Thanks!
Awesome man thanks! I got about a month wait for my prop right now, so we will see if that’s the game changer or not. I can at all with my stock BRP/Evinrude prop, it won’t hold the water. PowerTech advised keeping the same pitch as my 3 blade aluminum, but adding the 4th blade and all the cup.
I agree with momentum; I have been able to get my out of low water with my previous boat (14' Lowe Big John / 25 Evinrude tiller w/ dolphin) loaded down with decoys, dogs and 2 hunters. If you put what weight you can to the front then turn the motor sharp and slowly start turning in circles while increasing speed, you'll begin to get the boat up on the waves it creates. Once you can get a good bite, gun it and get out. Hope this helps.
That's cool. You showed us all how the laws of physics apply as it relates to momentum (mass + velocity). A 16 foot boat, empty load and momentum on the high end of the spectrum for that mass. I would be more impressed if you stopped the boat and put a three man hunting load in it and get on step from a dead stop in 4 inches of water and mud. Until then I will always put my money on a higher torque, air cooled motor. Still impressive for a 25HP nonetheless.
