Your pictures from your trip to India are fantastic when considering the specs of the Oly 14-150. I just found a deal on one and am looking forward to seeing what I can do with it. I do have pro lenses for when I'm doing more serious outings, but I wanted the 14-150 lens for when I'm with my wife and/or just sight-seeing or exploring. Thanks for sharing the video.

I shoot a D-7200 that came with the 18-140 zoom and it gives me most of everything I need because I don't travel, I'm nothing but a hobby photographer and just play with it every so often.

I love my 12-100 f4 pro. Use it pretty much everything except birds/wildlife. Have the 100-400 for that.

I share your reasoning, I have the M.Zuiko 14-150MMII and I was very surprised by its quality, even at the 150mm focal length at full aperture (here it is important to avoid shaking), with performance. Since I also have the 45mm f1.8, I have to say that you have given me an idea of a great combination of (only 2) lenses for traveling, thank you 🙃😁, which combine very well with my M5 MarkII and OM5. By the way, some beautiful photos👏👏👏.

Thanks Sam, informative video on the 14-150 f4-5.6. Your India photos are brilliant! Great light to work with but wow, the clarity and colours. Yes great bokeh indeed. The old fellow in the turban. I have the OM5 with 40-150 f4 Pro and 12-40 f4 Pro, super lenses. Zoomed to 150 (300mm), fine image quality and the OM5 is so light and agile, packed with so many features. Thanks again.

Glad you enjoyed it. Yes the light in india is just amazing to work with. I look at the shutter speeds on the exif and most are faster than 1/1000th with iso 200. So yeah everything is just sharp, colourful with great depth.

Very helpful and some nice shots. I fully agree with everything you said. I might have taken a 17 or 25mm prime rather than the 45 because indoor group shots are difficult with the 45 IMO. Still the bokeh on that 45 is great. What do you think of the bokeh on the 14-150 at 150mm? It looks decent to me.

I used it for a while since it came with my EM-5 III as a kit, it performs enought. However, I now have both 12-40 2.8 and 40-150 2.8 and these two are just superb zooms, even if they are bulkier and wheight more

I recommending putting the zoom on f8 or 9 and leaving it there. Use shutter speed and iso to control exposure. Sure you may get a lot of noise in your photos but the new AI denoise feature in adobe camera raw is amazing. For super dark scenes like astrophotography it doesn't work so well but that's not what this lens is for anyway. Adobe camera raw AI denoise has shocked me in its capabilities. I've shot at iso12500 and used the denoise at 100 percent and the results looked like I shot the original file at iso200! I was happily shocked.

I have the Panasonic 14-140 (similar range) and it's my most used lens by far. Perfect for travel and all round outdoor photography. Definitely recommend this zoom range for mft users. 👍

I've never used any Panasonic lenses except for the 75?-300mm. Does the 14-140 have image stabilisation?
@kwchalky02
@kwchalky02 8 месяцев назад
@@samdavisphotographer yes, it has good stabilisation and fast focus. It's also splash proof and is f/3.5 to f/5.6.

I did not realize the 14-150 is weathersealed. I have the EM-5 III, so that would make a good combination. My main lens is the 12-45 f/4 PRO and I also have the 45 f/1.8, which is fantastic, and which I use to photograph high school basketball games. Another shirt pocket lens is the 9-18, which is tiny and light for when you want to go really wide. For long nature photography, I use the Leica 100-400, which does a surprisingly good job at insect photography. When I'm out in the field, I never use a camera bag. Everything has to go around my neck or in a pocket, and, of course, no tripod because the image stabilization is so good.
@samdavisphotographer
@samdavisphotographer 4 месяца назад
Yes it's weather sealed to a certain degree and I've never had any problems. You will notice a difference in sharpness compared to your 12-45mm ( my 12-45 is incredibly sharp), particularly in the corners.

I'm of the opinion that when you're just out and about, walking around and taking pictures, a superzoom is often worth the compromise. Changing lenses all the time is just a pain. I don't have an ILC so I can change lenses every time I change subjects; I have it so I can use an appropriate lens when I want to and aren't STUCK with one built into my camera.

More food for thought! I have the 12-40mm & 40-150mm pro lenses, the 45mm f1.8 and for sport the Panasonic 100-300mm ii. I used to have the 14-150mm the first time I had an Olympus system and do wonder whether it's time to find another. Having limited mobility and carrying capacity, the 14-150mm / 45mm f1.8 does indeed offer something useful. The probability of going out for a walk with both f2.8 pro lenses is very low. For trips out where I don't stray far from the car the f2.8 zooms are fine. One thing possibly worth mentioning is that the importance image sharpness is always relative to the intended viewing medium. For social media sharing and modestly sized prints, the 14-150mm is almost certainly going to be sharp enough.
@samdavisphotographer
@samdavisphotographer 4 месяца назад
Absolutely agree. I think the end purpose of the images should be considered before making a lense choice. I'm more likely to pick up a pro lense for a gig with a paying client than the superzoom, as they are expecting premium sharpness. End use of images should be considered before picking up a lense. That said, if your gear weighs you down enough to potentially prevent you taking images, then I would go with the lighter option.

In good light conditions and static scenes, f4 lens performs very well. I'm going to buy 40-150mm f2.8 for indoor sport photography. I'm just a hobby photographer and definitely can't afford a FF camera with a fast 300mm lens.
@samdavisphotographer
@samdavisphotographer 5 месяцев назад
Yep I agree 40-150mm f2.8 pro is a great choice when getting into more specialist genres. I found it quite large though, let me know what you think.

Background blur is the most important thing in the photography! That's why i shoot only with 600mm with macro extenders

Much better something like 12-60 with 2.8, long lenses are already specialized lenses and you can have them extra for when you really need. Also doesn't make sense to keep your 45 in the pocket because the other lens will not fit the same pocket when you change.
@samdavisphotographer
@samdavisphotographer 8 месяцев назад
You're absolutely right specialised long lenses will do a better job e.g. sharper focus, wider aperture etc. The 14-150mm JUST about fits in my pocket haha! I would likely swap back to the 14-150mm once I'd finished the portrait with 45mm.
