Thank you for posting this superb and most socially relevant presentation by Dr. Hicks.

Hicks used to have a great podcast that I loved to listen to. Just stopped out of nowhere around the end of 2021. I'm glad to know he's still doing his thing.

In the real world, humans can function quite well through compartmentalization, where their practical behavior doesn't have much to do with their beliefs. Friedrich Engels and John Maynard Keynes were both successful businessmen and investors, for example. In our time immigrants from India who are mystically and collectivist oriented (they are religious and tribal, in other words) are flourishing as capitalists and entrepreneurs, for example in the hotel industry. So where does the alleged need for "philosophy" come in to make any practical difference in real life?

What is all that racket in the background?

Perhaps it is the ghosts of Hegel, Marx and Nietzsche banging on the gates of Hell assertively demanding their release.

I'm a pessimist which would potentially explain my feelings about this. I stopped listening about a third of the way through because I felt the presenter had a difficult time. Focusing on the topic of philosophy. He seemed to jump all over the place, thus I lost interest. Also, I don't know if people in the psychological community would agree with the notion that optimism and pessimism is a philosophy versus a human characteristic. I'm not convinced we can choose if we're optimistic or pessimistic.

Objectivists are generally not well read in psychology and cognitive science.
