I bought the KLR PUPOSELY as this thing is a jeep on two wheels. I can go into the wilderness with a big load. Go camping in hard to reach places. The 6 . 1 gal tank takes you far. And it also cruises nice on roads.
That is a correct statement about the adventure group being a different type of people. You don't see too many adventure bikes at bike night at the local hangout.
I’ve had Harley’s, liter bikes, and most recent was a 2019 goldwing tour. I then got a BMW r 1250 GSA and it honestly blows all of my other bikes out of the water. I have a strong feeling that these adventure bikes will take over the market in the coming years. They are like the SUV of the bike world. Do it alls.
I traded my V-star 1300 for my KLR and have been extremely happy that I did. I have never been that typical "biker" guy, of which the lifestyle really turned me off from Harley, as I'm just a gear-head... My first bike as a kid was a Yamaha Tri-Moto 125, which to tell my age, I wrecked it 2 weeks before 20/20 came out with the story about how dangerous 3-wheelers were. From there I had a BW-80, XR100R and then a KX-125 in high school. I sold the KX right after high school (~1994) and didn't get back into riding until I bought my V-Star 1300 in 2011. I did an even trade for my KLR in 2019. Like you said in this video, I missed going everywhere. Around here they oil & chip the roads, which is not fun on a street bike. On the KLR, I can go from pavement to gravel at 55 and never skip a beat. Life sometimes takes you into the ditch, so I haven't been riding for the past few years. Now that things are starting to get back to normal, I can get my "projects" put back together and get back in the seat..
Sold my Street-Glide, and bought two adventure bikes , Royal Enfield Himalayan, and my resent purchase of a Moto-Guzzi V85TT , the other V-Twin with a drive shaft. Very Good Buy
From a former HD owner, I got disgusted with the culture it bred. Dentists and Realtor's who put on their Harley Drag on weekends, ride to the local tavern and try to act tough to us farmers and construction workers who could actually did all the work and maintenance on our bikes. Offroad riding got me very far away from that crowd and I never looked back cuz the places in front of you were amazing.
My riding is 90% an off-road... But I still luv my on-road brothers & sisters. After being cooped up in an office kissing asses all week, some riders just feel so fucking cool getting on their bikes, they have to take it all the way by playing dress up... and some are just meatheads, but they're sort of okay too🤣
I have owned Harleys for many years. I must say I've had a severe itch to get an adventure bike. Been looking at the pan America for about a year now. Started looking at other brands and I may get a klr. I'm in central Pennsylvania with lots of mountain dirt roads. I believe it would be a blast
You live in a great area for ADV. I have a few buddies that have the Pan America’s and love them but they are still heavy. Good luck and let me know how it goes
I went one step further. I sold my Pan America and bought the KLR. I'm enjoying the simplicity of the KLR. Also, I've always had at least 2 bikes in the garage, sometimes more. The KLR is the only one I own today. I've never been more satisfied.
I am a 61 year old wisconsinite I have several bikes. But no adventure bike each has its own Purpose, 14 ctx for touring, w800 for around town, 15 versys 1000 is my sport bike, 82 my retro and here and there Bike, but nothing can do off road, so I am thinking about the klr but at 6'4" 290lbs I am wondering if it is big enough? and yes I can contemplate another bike because I am single 😂. Great vid, happy father's day. I will subscribe.
I have no motorcycle experience in my early 40s and am considering a KLR. That should be interesting. I might even consider recording from the beginning and see how things go.
This made me flash back to my break bones dirt years. I started in dirt and gravel and was a fool. Then every friend had a bike I couldn't stay up with, and I bought stupid street kill yourself machines. I am so happy i grew (lived) out of that and found comfort and miles. Love your videos man............Bob
You know I have the two bikes, and I enjoy each of them so much!!! I am like you, I’m not going to be out Trail riding, but I love the slightly challenging off pavement rides!!!
What's with the LONG awkward pause when the young lady was running by? Focus, BoDean, Focus lol I ride em all daddy-0! Let's go! asphalt, dirt, rocks, mud, highway, backroads? YEP!
I absolutely love my 22 KLR Adventure and also have a 2012 Harley Street Bob. I think the reason I decided to get the KLR is because I've always been attracted to the versatility and utilitarian nature of it. When the Gen 2 Version disappeared after 2018 I thought I forever missed the proverbial train. So, anyways I got the adventure model because I wanted the side cases along with added top case. It makes a great commuter bike even if its raining a little outside. If I only had my harley I'd think twice before rolling out on a crappy day. Just today I got it over 10K miles and haven't had one problem. My original tires were replaced with Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires and I've done some ergonomic things to suit my size. It's a great bike and if I lived over there on the mainland I'd love to take it for long tours around the country. Aloha.
What a great comment and thanks. I also have Harley's and a lot of the same reason applies to me. Some roads here in Michigan I would never go down I am able to now. Enjoy the adventure!
Man Bob, you are killing it on RU-vid. How are you liking the new adventure Bike compared to the Harleys? Would you take the Adventure bike on a long road trip?
Not sure about that my friend but having fun. This bike is fun and different for me and having a riot. You could travel long distances but this old coot will take the road sofa Harley
Same scenario here. I've had Guzzi's, Ducati, three Harleys (last was a '20 Electra Glide). I now have a V-Strom 1050XT and '23 KLR Traveler. I'm seriously thinking about selling the V-Strom because the KLR just seems to do everything I want. The Strom is awesome, but I'm always looking over my shoulder for speed traps. The KLR is just a simple, enjoyable, comfortable, affordable, reliable ride. I'm happy.
@@bodeanaventures Not at all with my size 11s. However, I ride primarily in hiking boots. If I was to put on adventure type I'm sure I would have issues.
Haven't ridden in 20 years (street bikes at the time, dirt bikes on the farm as a pup) and am looking to get back into it. The KLR fits into our camping, 'overlanding' lifestyle as another way to get out of town at the drop of a hat and spend a couple days on the trails, all at a reasonable price.
I bought my KLR ~ the same time as you, and I will say that it has made me appreciate my Vulcan 900! I like the KLR and have lots of plans, like forest fire roads in the U.P and such, but riding the Vulcan is so much more comfortable for me while cruising the city streets. Riding position, controls and windscreen being the most notable. It's kinda like having a wild ass girlfriend that's not much of a homemaker on the side, but it's nice to come home to a clean home and a hot meal.
I've owned sportsters but really prefer dual sport "enduro" HD ain't worth it most ADV bikes handle better got more power & weigh less plus can handle our trashy pothole highways
