So so fun having you in the shop and touring around the store!! Thank you for giving others a glimpse into who we are and how we operate. We had so much fun!!
Hearing from Laura is a relief to see someone successful without being a "rule the world" type. I'll really enjoy supporting Jimmy after hearing this. Authentic people are so rare in what feels like an influencer diy culture full of drama. The workers naming themselves the beans and being allowed to have and show joy in their working environment is critical to keeping a company afloat.
I loved hearing her story and how everything came together for her … love that she went from a tiny little storefront to being such a powerhouse in the industry. So amazing and inspiring.
Jimmy Beans has some of the best customer service I’ve experienced. Last year I got back into knitting after a long hiatus. I’d forgotten how much I loved knitting and have been obsessed since I picked the needles back up. I wanted to treat myself to a full set of Chiagoo interchangeables and ordered them from Jimmy Beans. I got a call from them the day after I ordered to confirm that I placed the order because it was a bigger ticket item. I was so impressed that they took the time to double check. The customer service rep even chatted with me about the needle set, after I told her how excited I was about them, she was so sweet! I love my needle set and the service they provided, when I use my needles I think about that phone call and the sweet woman on the other end of the call. Thanks Jimmy Beans! I hope to see your store in person someday and I’m bringing my old Vogue Knitting magazine where I first saw your ad so many years ago and I’m having Gus sign it, because he’s just too awesome. If Jimmy is around, I would love her to sign it too, she revolutionized the way we buy knitting supplies and yarn.
We can't even begin to explain what this comment means to us!! Thank you for sharing your experience and keeping up with us all these years later - we're just so honored!! Please come visit us soon. Gus would love to say hello and Jimmy would be happy to meet :)
I am an affiliate for Jimmy Beans Wools. I knew that had a LOT of nice yarn and products, but I had no idea how large the business was. Total yarn heaven. Thanks for the great tour!
It's so cool to see the shop I've been buying from for ages! And the space! Living in NYC, we don't get a fraction of this kind of display space. They have the shop set up beautifully. What a treat! ❤
What an amazing store, I love how everything was laid out and I especially loved how knowledgeable they were while showing you around, you could really see their love of yarn. Brilliant how the name came about too I love that it's Laura's nickname
Thanks for the tour. I’ve ordered online from Jimmy Bean’s for many years and always received my order in 2 to 3 days. Enjoyed seeing where my orders come from.
I’m lucky enough to live in Reno and one of my favorite things to do is visit the store. Gus is right, displays are always changing so each visit is a discovery. Every now and again they open up the warehouse and it’s so lovely to wander around and also see how it’s organized and run. This video was fun to watch because I didn’t realize how the rooms are themed. And Jimmie’s story is so amazing!
Good gravy! You have willpower lady! What an incredible store and tour. As a former entrepreneur, my hat goes off to Laura because she has done something incredible. I’d love to know what you bought, because there’s no way you didn’t come home empty handed bc you’d have to have worn blinders.
Loved this video! I’ve ordered from Jimmy Bean’s regularly for many years & it’s really cool to see where my stuff comes from. Hopefully I’ll make it to their store sometime for a visit!
WOW! All that YARN!!! That was such a great tour and interesting interview! I had heard of Jimmy Beans Wool from googling, but had no idea of the different yarns carried etc. I thoroughly enjoyed your video from beginning to end!
This was so much fun to watch. Within minutes, I was trying to figure out how to convince the family that we need to drive thru Reno on our way home from California at Christmas
I remember the first shop in Truckee that was right next to the train station. Our knitting group went on one of Laura’s first retreats at Feather River Inn, so we made stop at her store on the way. It was a lot of fun and has been interesting watching her grow throughout the years. Great interview.
As a fellow Todd Snider fan, I was really excited to learn that connection. . .JBW is my first LYS from when I lived in Reno ten years ago. Congrats on all the success! Go get you one of them blue plastic pools, you deserve it!
Dream tour. Beautiful store! Loved your guide, his demonstration hands and movements. You can tell he’s proud of their store, and loves what he does. That whole team is awesome. That’s a place I would love to work…well duh, there’s yarn! But what an amazing rise in business!
I am sure insured by Laura’s journey building her yarn empire. I will be in Reno this weekend and looking forward to shopping for my fall yarn projects!
What an incredible story! I love that the shop started very small and has snowballed into the yarny experience it is today. Congratulations on your success.🧶
I love this! First learned to knit(Zephyr Cove NV 85') stopped in Jimmy Beans Truckee for coffe once and still shop Jimmy Beans. Keep sharing your travels ❤ be safe and well.
Thank you ~ great episode! Have ordered from JB and done an accessory club. But a life highlight was going there to see Arne & Carlos. It was a good match because both Arne & Carlos and staff at Jimmy Beans were incredibly generous ❤ . Coming from Tucson I was a bit jealous of the locals but they do a great job with mail order too.
This was fantastic! I was already a Jimmy Beans Wool fan, but this video made me love them even more. Such a cool company, story, facility, selection, and staff. Thank you so much for taking us along!
I really enjoyed this video! I learned so much that I didn't know about Jimmy Beans Wool. I want to plan a trip to Reno now just to visit the store. Thank you Natalie & Kent for bringing these great shop tours. I've added a few more "LYS" to the yarn shopping file on my phone. I want to visit them someday, like you did, in person. When I dream, I dream big. Lol! I'll really miss you guys "road trippin'"...and touring shops... sharing your adventures in the national parks...and just everything! As much as I am dreading the completion of this adventure, I can't wait to see what you two do next. Oh! The bittersweet of it all! ✌️💗🧶🧦🏞️🐕
Such an amazing business! The store looks incredible and I love how broad their services are. Gus seems like the perfect front man. 👏 Definitely will be checking their website.
Such a great interview and tour. I have been on Jimmy Bean’s site but have not bought anything because didn’t find the online shopping experience great. Did not know they acquired Della q and Madelinetosh - can’t wait for their new site to launch - Laura was a great interview. Thanks Natalie
I must get to this store !! It’s now been added to my bucket list. Such a massive selection of any yarn or accessory you might want for fiber art. I love the large samples for reference of drape and color.
I love that he knows everything about the yarn!!! So informative he should really be working more than 2 days a week!!! I would love to see him this store for myself
Wow!!! This store and Laura's businesses look and sound amazing. I couldn't believe all the different beautiful yarns. Just beautiful. Thankyou for showing us Natalie and Kent. Enjoy back being on the road again soon.
I have enjoyed your travels and the tours and interviews you have done along the way. This is the best so far and what a genius Jimmy is. Thank you for asking the best questions and Kent for the awesome filming he does.
Wow! What a great interview and tour. One of your best to date. So, so interesting. I could listen to Laura (aka Jimmy) all day. She is amazing in what she and her team have accomplished. Kudos to you and Kent on a great video.
This was an awesome tour. I’ve never been to Jimmy Bean, but I do remember about the flood. I check out their website all the time. Thank you for taking us along! It was wonderful! 🧶🧶
Natalie, this was a great tour. I would so love to visit this store and Jimmy’s (Laura) story was so very interesting. Thanks for a great job on this tour- thanks to Kent also!
I have to say, I really don’t like the new “showroom” style of the shop. It’s so much easier for me to grab and carry what I want to the cashier, than to have to keep telling someone, “I want three of this, and five of this”. And then if you change your mind they have to go back to the warehouse again to swap out what you thought you wanted to begin with. They were very busy that day and lots of back and forth. And the day I was there, I was heavy duty shopping and some items I had chosen were not in my bags when I got home. Although I was not charged for those, it was just a bit annoying. So I’m going to keep shopping when I go through Reno but I also order online with just as much satisfaction. It’s not the same, going to the store anymore. Not like it used to be.
Another great video Natalie. I see they sell Hedgehog Fibers yarn from Ireland. I worked with that to make a reversible cable scarf. I did the same scarf in Rios yarn as well.
I'm probably preaching to the choir here: Not all Regia yarn is Arne&Carlos yarn! The one Natalie had in her hand during the video wasn't. Those which are have A&C's photo and signature on the ball band :-)
I received a tour about 10 years ago. I live about 90 minutes away in CA and have a terrible mother problem. I asked them about moths, and since Reno is high desert have no moths.
Jimmy Bean's wool is one of the most beautiful yarn stores I've ever seen! I am shocked. I am going to Webs next month for the first time and compared to Webs (based on their website and yarn selection) I'd much rather shop at Jimmy bean's wool. Jimmy Beans has more yarns that I would much rather buy than what Webs offers. I'm actually disappointed in Webs selection for being America's largest yarn store. You would think their selection of yarns would be much. Jimmy bean's has Webs beat hands down. I've never been to Jimmy beans, I'm just watching the video but boy if I could get to Nevada, I'd go to Jimmy Bean's real quick. What a beautiful store!!!!! I will definitely consider them for my next online yarn purchase.
I've never been to Webs before! I'm hoping to go when we travel to the northeast. I think since Jimmy Beans started out as a retail shop, they have a great sense of the current market.
