Alex. Stay home a few more years and SAVE. You have that luxury, a lot do not. Do not waste your money on rent. I know you have a girlfriend now and that’s probably a lot of your motive and it’s fun and exciting to think of being on your own but it’s still new. Don’t rush. Be smart! Set yourself up for success.

Honestly I completely understand where Alex is coming from! He’s a young adult and an apartment is really great for someone just starting out! A house is too much pressure on a young adult (just in my personal opinion) and a house is also more expensive than an apartment! I’m 24 and have had to work hard for everything I have and I could never imagine getting a house to rent at 19 or 20! It’s too much responsibility starting out! You gotta ease into it! But to each their own and I wish the complete best for Alex and any of the older kids moving out! It’s a huge but fun transition! ✨ God Bless you all!

As Alex will presumably be streaming still/therefore showing off where everything is in his place, I’d suggest not a ground floor place, for security. Make sure it’s something Alex, not his girlfriend, loves. They just met. Relationship status’ change.

They grow up so fast. Don't forget to budget for renter's insurance and necessities and utilities when you move. I;m glad you shop around to find a place you like.

My oldest son lived in the dorms, then lived with me for 6 months before he got his first apartment. It was pretty small, and and now he's had a 2 bedroom with his wife. It's been really nice to see them grow and choose what's best for them. I think the smaller apartment is better for starting out. Financially it would be nice so he can figure out the best route for him and not feeling pressured to fill a house, verses an apartment.

I figured Alex was going to move out soon. I remember crystal saying that he’s always in his own little bubble. Seems about right to want to move out. I moved out at 17 and it’s nice but pretty different. Good luck:)

I agree dead grass is a give away for the landlords not taking care of the property. I have lived in two apartments and both didn’t take care of the property.

My rent is $795 and we struggle every month. Literally fear not making it- I couldn’t imagine paying that much at Alex’s age. Congrats on the new path ahead of you!

Oh, Crystal, you have several who are of the age of moving out soon. You are going to miss them at home. Alex is very attached to you. I think he will miss you as much as you'll miss him. It will be fun helping him decorate. I remember doing that with all of my kids. It is fun seeing them grow up, but, I do like my birds being under my wing, too.

Alex, they have small 800 sq houses that can be built, even just 2 bedroom ones. In the long run it would be way cheaper paying mortgage than rent. When you sell you will probably make a profit when you move to another house. It's a much better investment. However it doesn't come with a gym or a pool. So yeah just depends on what is most important. I just always felt like apts are a waste of money. Just my feelings😊. I wish you the best no matter what you do! 💞

My Parents never wanted me to leave and they objected when I moved out at age 19. After living on my own until age 24, I went to college and graduated and even did one year of Grad school. Then, due to illness in the Family, I returned to my Parents home in 2005 at age 31 and I’ve lived with them ever since! Mom and Dad are awesome!!

I remember not long ago Alex saying he was NEVER leaving home, now Savannah is in the picture and his opinion has changed. Love you guys ❤ lmk if the older kids need credit building tips so they can buy vs rent.

Alex your a great guy! I'm sure you have been thinking about this for a little while. Please think about it a little while longer. Give it some time. Give yourself at least 6 more months. I know there has been some changes. You had your own room before. Having your own space when ever you want and need sometimes can make a difference. That is what you were used to. You have been sharing your room now for awhile, your working and having a girlfriend is all big changes. Give yourself some time to really check in with yourself and see how things are in 6 months. There's no rush! You have 2 loving parents that support you! I know they only have your best interests at heart. They are very understanding. Apts. Will still be there! They aren't going anywhere! Look at it this way...you like to save money which you need to be commented on, it would give more time to save more money. Truly don't rush into something if you don't need to. Pray about it. They all love each other , always include each other in anything they do and they get so excited to tag along, giving each other your ideas and opinions on things without arguing etc. Mom & Dad, you’re raising such amazing, wonderful, loving kids. Alex: remember though with your own place you will not be spending the time in your bedroom like you do now so a large one is not always a must. You pretty much sleep and get ready for the day in there. Now, if you go the roommate route maybe a little larger just so you have room for your computer and other things like that still in your room.

I'm excited for Alex. I just moved out to live on my our back in July and there are pros and cons. It will feel so nice to have your own quiet space, but you will miss you family's presence. When you adjust to having your own schedule then you'll feel a lot better. Yaaayy! For alex!

One of the hardest things we went through when they are ready to move out. With ours going to college first it was gradual as they only came home for vacations for 4 years so it was easier to realize it was time.

Alex can always take on certificates qualification or trade if not want to invest his time in college. Many job would like you to have degree. Not all of the job require one. I recommend being open minded of all options like college and short- long term plans.

I know he's just going to be starting out on his own but has he thought about going to college and just taking whatever classes and maybe some debate and public speaking classes? I think he would be a terrific public motivator. Sometimes he gets intense and convincing in whatever he's talking about.

Wow! I know rent is high now days but I live in WA with incredibly steep rental prices. I can’t believe they are that high in AZ. I feel like he could buy a small house and have his mortgage be the cost of what they are charging for rent. Then it would be an investment. Good luck on finding the right place it is always exciting to move into your first place on your own.

Last one was very grown up also much safer! Trust me you need a place that looks safe when you first move out when I moved out I kept hopping from a flat to another flat to one house to the other. Last house I moved into was burgled and scared me and now I’ve moved to a complete different town

Plus an apartment does not have lawn care. I agree with you when it comes to moving out. An apartment is practical unless a house is the same price or cheaper than an apartment. Sometimes that is the case in TX. Good luck with the search and it is good to get ideas on what you prefer and what you don't.

Parents NEVER really want a child to LEAVE ❣️ As to him moving out in general... It takes a great deal of courage... ALL 3 OF MY GROWN KIDS, STILL LIVE AT HOME... (AGES 19, ALMOST 22, AND 24!!!) I personally am in no hurry for them to LEAVE!!!! I had unfortunate circumstances that led me to be an emancipated minor at 15, and living on my own at a VERY YOUNG AGE... not what I would want for ANYBODY💔. Our current house is 1800sq ft and we are a family of 5 with 5 cats and 8 birds in the backyard 🥰❣️ The cats are ALL INDOOR CATS🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛❣️ We have lived in our house for almost 25 YEARS, this coming April 👍🥰❣️ I WISH ALEX THE BEST OF LUCK! 💞ALOHA FROM HAWAI'I 💞🌹 LYSSA 🌹

Happy for Alex! Working and getting his own place! Woo hoo. I actually prefer a smaller place too. Less to clean and maintain. It takes me like maybe 2 hours to deep clean my entire apartment when it's messy, or just like 20 minutes a day.

$1700!!! For that tiny apartment in the Mesa area!! I’m like 45 min west of them on the other side of the valley (north west valley) and I pay $1750 for my 4 bed, 2 bath 1832sq ft house for rent.

I wish him luck finding a place he can afford. We live in a small city of 28,000 in central NY and you would be very lucky if you could find a decent one bedroom apt. for less then $900- $1,200 a month. That’s why so many young adults still live at home.

So he is not moving for college but for his relationship ? and he works part time at Target … Okay so, how would he finance all the bills : rent, assurance, internet, phone… etc ? I mean I am just very very curious, because everybody said : Oh waow he is 18 and he is so mature, but no, I was 18 too lol ;) and even though I had a student job I needed my parents to pay for my bills including the rent (my tiny student room) while I was also studying hard to become an engineer… I had no time for boyfriends, of course I will still have my friends/classmates , but I was too poor for extra activities .. I would put the money in the food , the transport… How would he manages all of these costs ..

Alex, buying a house is also a good thing, it’s an investment in your future. Most can own a house and the payments are similar to what rent for an apartment, condo or house would be.

Awwwww Crystal I’ll be the exact same way when my kids move out ….. hold on and cry “ my baby!!!”

If you get a smaller house you can always rent out some of the bedrooms with friends and then you won’t be throwing money away and they can help pay the mortgage. Then when you are ready for a family you will already have a home or you can sell it and upgrade to a bigger home. I was 23 when I moved out but I inherited my grandparents house so I didn’t need to worry about paying a mortgage or rent.

Totally agree with Alex about not getting a house yet. A house is a ton of responsibility for someone so young and apartments can ease you into the responsibility of being on your own and once you get used to having bills and responsibilities you can transition to renting a house and then to buying a house.

Alex and I are the same when it comes to thr rooms. I also like having the smallest room in the apartmant and house. Love your family. 😍
