Manisha (Indian) and I (New Zealander) met for the very first time on the 14th of October 2014 in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi, India. When I opened the door and saw her, I knew right away that there was something special about her.
A few days later I asked her out on a date to Lodhi Gardens. Five years later we married on the 22nd of April 2019 in Delhi.
My 3 tips for a successful interracial marriage and relationship:
1. Embrace each others' cultures. You have the incredible privilege of being part of two cultures. Learn each others' languages and join each others' cultures whole-heartedly. If it all works out, this will definitely be one of the greatest experiences of your entire life.
2. Be adaptable because each culture will have its own ways of doing things. You will need to adapt, learn, and sometimes compromise.
3. Don't rush into marriage. Take dating slowly. Interracial relationships are complex and require continued learning about each other. Make sure the relationship, and the work required, is right for you both.

I'm Catholic too. I believe that we should embrace by expand our horizon to see the world we are neutral and we are not taking sides to see which religion or cultures a better and the others are not. I think everything about them is beautiful! As a biracial girl, coming from interracial parents, I've always heard these types of negative comments. The most being "choose a side, you can't be both". I never have understood those with this type of mindset. No two people are the same and if we were, it would be absolutely boring! ❤️

I can relate to the struggles of being mixed race. I don't seem to fit in any box, either... I am half white, half black and have Amerindian ancestry, and I apparently pass as white, but I never understood that. it sucks when people try to define your own ethnicity, and it's weird how there is so much racism, gatekeeping and segregation. Why shouldn't an interracial couple marry? Love is love, and we are all humans who want affection.

As a bi-racial child, I have a few thoughts. My mother is english Irish and my father is 100% Sikh Punjabi. My father and mother are both born in Canada as I am. I am Canadian. However saying this, it hard for a marriage to work on any level and the the two of you seem to be working it out. Beautiful. It has be my experience, and only mine, that the children might have a harder time navigating both world. I wear a turban and chosen to live as a Sikh. None of my 4 other brothers have chosen that life style. My point is that children are still “in between” both culture and that will cause them some grief. You can disagree with me but I know from my own experience and my own boys this to be true. You as the parents if you have children will have to be vigilant to there needs and sometimes alienation from both side. All culture can be racist and judgemental. I have been together with my husband for 40 years! He is from Pakistan and came to the US at 17 yo. I am Chinese, but similar culture. So interracial marriages can work out bc love sees no color, works past obstacles, etc. Love overcomes all. In fact, our marriage outlasted most of the arranged marriages in his family and others that we know! Some of them divorced after 30 plus years of marriage which is sad. And we outlasted many of the naysayer’s marriages! One of the most important reasons is commitment- I truly followed and believed in my marriage vows. For sickness, and in health, for richer and for poorer, in good times and in bad times- you stuck through it….

I don't think anyone says that. I realize this is rhetorical but just out of fun and general tomfoolery let's mine this vein. Statistically speaking it is true 50% of the time in normal marriage so one could argue the statement is more true than untrue. Now add in cultural differences as well as different customs, religion etc, I think it would be safe to assume that number would only increase when you add a new set of tribulations on to the base line. To make long post longer, I have never heard anyone say that but apparently you have and they may have been on to something as you can't let the exception define the rule. To be fair I have not specifically looked at statistics regarding the longevity of interracial marriage or the endless list of variables that may or may not constitute that vauge lable. Perhaps the strong cultures would give an edge depending on how sacred they view marriage. All of that being said, I don't like the odds of any marriage and therefore that seemly insensitive statement may be rooted in more fact than fiction!

For purpose of clarification, as many comments saying (for example) I am American, my husband is British ... or I am Central European & my wife is Eastern European ..... an interracial means couple of two different races not two different nationalities. Two caucasians no matter what nationalities they are not classified as interracial. However one caucasian & one asian or black or oriental etc. are classified as interracial. Example is Karl & Manisha.
