In regards to Pefok, sure perhaps the swiss super league isn't quite on par with MLS. But just the taste of CL and Europa league competition they get (@YB) deserves more credit, even perhaps to a birdie.

I’m no pefok fanboy but that man is leading the Swiss league in scoring. We don’t have a single player to lead any league in the world in scoring. He deserves a roster spot no matter what 15 goals in 23 games is not something you really see in any usmnt player.

Brooks is like Chicharito for the usmnt, we need him but the coach is blinded by whatever they did smh 😔

I like your roster but I would take Slonina over Johnson just to get him familiar with the group and realistically the 3rd keeper won’t play and I would also bring CCV over McKenzie

Other than the fact that McKenzie was already brought in during this window, there's no reason to rate him over CCV right now. Sure, it's the Scottish Premier League, but CCV is regarded as the top CB in Scotland, playing on the best team in Scotland. After keeper Joe Hart, CCV is the second name on the squad list. McKenzie is not even playing regularly (I think just 3 of the last 7 matches; and he was subbed off at half of one of those). At this point it's become a Catch-22 for CCV: we can't bring him in because he's never been brought in.

Love the idea of Reyna being there. But I really think its more important for him to heal completely. We'll need him for sure in the World Cup. I truly believe we have others that can help us get through Qualifying. So stay home and heal properly Gio!

Gregg needs to max out the call-ups...I'm not sure why he hasn't done this before in these COVID times, but we need a 30 man roster in case of positive tests, injuries, or yellow cards. GGG needs to show a full commitment to this window. All of the best players need to get on a plane! No excuses anymore. If he doesn't do this and we (god forbid) fail, he will have himself to blame.

Nearly Spot on analysis of what the roster should look like and what Gregg is likely to do. The only issue I have with the players you named is McKenzie...but I get your reasoning and agree that Gregg will likely select Long anyway. I like the inclusion of Konrad and Gomez, but I don't think Gregg will have either in this window. I fully expect Arriola/Zardes and Bello to be Gregg's picks.

Love the reasoning on Slonina, couldn't agree more. And it beats me what the issue with Scally is... I don't see any of the Gregg gang taking the field against teams like Bayern and Dortmund...

Agree with your player picks as players. But a lot of these guys haven’t been with the team at all in qualifying. Too many changes could be disruptive/distracting at this stage. It’s too bad GGG can’t go back and make some of these changes in prior windows,

I have to wonder why Holmes can’t get a *chance* ahead arriola/morris. He’s had by far his best year and looks favorite to get the third and potentially be a premier league player next season

CCV deserves a shot too, but since McKenzie is familiar with the “GB System” I do expect him to get priority on that last spot.

I agree with Pete that the quality of the roster will be determined by its depth pieces. Which then presents a pick your poison problem. Do you choose guys who are playing regularly for their fitness/sharpness or do you name the most talented/best 23 players? Either way, Gregg is taking a risk.

I’m having a hard time understanding Mark McKenzie and Genk. He seldom starts or gets minutes for that matter but when he does it’s against the top 5 league opposition. Granted I won’t claim to watch much of their matches

GK...yes bring 4 and those are the right ones. FB...I actually don't mind Canon and we know Greg just doesn't rate Scally or Gomez. CB...right on target, let's hope Brooks is on the roster. MF...is about right but again Greg doesn't rate Mihailovic, so will definitely be Lleget and my guess is Gio isn't healthy enough. Since Greg won't go with a back three I think Adams and Acosta in midfield is how Greg will clog up the middle defensively with Musah or LDT more forward. FW...come on sure Konrad deserves a shot but you know 100% Zardes is there in his place. I really like the idea of Aaronson and Sargent as super sub types might give Pefok the start in Azteca.

Just not convinced by Djordje. Dude disappeared in Guadalajara last year, got rag-dolled in leadup to 2019 Gold Cup. I feel like he would end-up in the bucket of guys that just does not bring much. I bring in Pomykal, Ledezma when he's healthy.

I think the Zardes train crossed the Rubicon, even for Berhalter. Zardes won't be called up. He gives favorite players lots and lots chances, but Zardes has clearly not been producing for a while. For example: Yueill had Olympic Qualifying, Nations League, Gold Cup (where he was finally benched) and was called in as a 1st window roster replacement, but didn't see the field... he's done now. Zardes has had a similar number of windows/tournaments that he hasn't produced.

Pefok is scoring goals playing in UCL. Even against Man United

Sitting Adams in the first game may cause him to only play 1 game in the window if he gets a yellow card against Panama. I realize that the Panama game is a must win but wouldn’t it be better to guarantee that Adams plays 2 games and trust that Adams not get a yellow so he can play against Panama. If he does get a yellow against Mexico, he can still play against Costa Rica. I’d rather have Adams for 2 games than possibly only have him for 1.

Gomez has had no first team minutes. He doesn't belong on this list. He's your personal fantasy player, not Gregg's. Yedlin is proven to be solid. There's plenty of time to cap Scally in friendlies. He's benched and out of form. The backup job is Vines' to lose. Brooks should be out for good permanently, but with Weston McKinnie out, we need someone to break line passes. I don't trust him as a starter, but if we're needing a goal, pull Robinson and Adams, put in Brooks and Reyna to break the lines with passing with a back 3 and 5 in the middle. Long is out for now. Djorde isn't ready for primetime yet. He can wait his turn and prove it in friendlies. If Zardes is killing it early in MLS he's a lock for this camp. Otherwise, Pefok can be a backup. He's never had good consistent matches with the US, but Zardes brings known certainties, can score and do hold up play. Your list is more of a wishful friendlies list. Wildcard is LDT. He earned a spot, but not as a starter. He can bring energy off the bench but can he do it on the road or against better teams? No one knows and neither does Gregg.

I am really pessimistic about our chances to qualify tbh with all these injuries, the most difficult window being this window, the teams that are competing with us having easier windows against teams that have nothing to play for, our historical performances, and Gregg’s Gregg-ness. I’m like 45% we don’t qualify, 30% we finish 4th, 15% we finish 3rd and 10% we finish 2nd.

You seem to forget that GB trust Jordan Morris, and didn't have him anywhere on the list, nor did you bother mentioning him at any point that I recall. He will most likely make the roster over Konrad or Sargent. Cannon will most likely be there due to his defensive coverage, something we will need in order to defend at Azteca, and depending on results at costa rica. I don't understand our fanbase and talking heads... There is a pass for player like Brooks who switch off, can't handle quick, technical attacking players, but somehow you point out Walker Zimmerman or Richards couple of mistakes. Lets see, we are headed to Costa Rica, remind me what happened last time Brooks played in Costa Rica for us again? There's a pass for Sargent... hes on a bad team, playing out of position, but he looks like maybe hes more confident so lets bring him, while you criticized the MLS guys playing in position and finding success... You say Zardes doesn't perform for the USMNT (not fully true), but Sargent, Books, even some lately with Pulisic and Dest not only don't get a mention they have struggled, but a full on pass. Then it all circles back to GB. Oh he tinkers too much, hes too complex (for these European based more technical players... but somehow the "lesser" MLS players catch on), but he has no plan b, and his game plan is too simple and easy to beat. He doesn't make adjustments, but we are a second half team so he starts to slow and gets it wrong at the start. It's amazing, under JK we had similar issues at the start and pulling games late was proof of his adjustments and our fight. The losses at Guatemala, at home to Panama and Jamaica was on the players. Now road losses to much better teams is proof GB is the issue and the players get a pass. This fan base can't determine which side is up and down. For three or 4 years, we have heard about how these young players are so much better, so much more technical, so great compared to the past. We need to get rid of the MLS based players because their European based counter parts are so much better. They play in Champions League and harsh environments, they are so good!!! OK, PROVE IT. Mexico is an older, more domestic and MLS based team with some players based at "lower" European clubs. If our guys are so much better, prove it. Panama is a mostly MLS or domestic based team, playing them at home. If our European based players are so much better, prove it. Costa Rica is old, MLS and Domestically based. If Pulisic can't beat them off the dribble, that's not a GB fault. If we can't play a decent set piece, that's not on GB. I am so tired of this fan based being down on our coach while watching these "better" players get bossed up and down the field on individual match ups by an Impact Montreal defender. If MLS is trash as many say, why are MLS players dominating our European talent. And why are people like you continuing to give our players a pass for bad performances while criticizing a coach for dropping guys who just don't seem interested, or aren't playing at their clubs? Where does this fan base get off being so arrogant. Seriously, more and more we sound like England. Simply showing up is good enough for a 4-5 goal win now?
