Can anyone else relate to this? I dont get why characters with defining weaknesses can't be good but characters that are good at basically everything and have no weaknesses is good game design like how tf does that make sense, why should anyone with no weaknesses excel at that much?

I wish they never brought back M bison, I hated him in 5, and I hate him in 6. Call me a scrub, skill issue ect. I’m just soo salty about losing a shit tone of mr because of Bison.

What happened with the shoto's is a funny thing. Luke had to be good because he's supposed to be a new main character, plus he was so good in the last season of sfv if he was bad all of a sudden it would be weird. Ken has to be good because he's representing the competitive old timers, its basically in his contract that hes competitively viable. he also has been more and more unique as the years go on and the main story of the game centers him. Ryu is surprisingly popular and was fought for by the fans for the last 7 years. Akuma is definitionally powerful. If any of these characters were weak it would have disappointed 50% of the audience.

I think Punk just released his tier list. It's pretty decent, I don't agree with a few character placements but still worth checking out.

Chun-Li should always be top tier. That's how you show respect to one of Capcom's legacies. She her merchandise sells even to non-Chun players. She's practically the blueprint for female fighting game characters as she stood out among men at a time when women weren't as prominent in major roles as they are now. What Capcom has been doing to her since SF4 is just unacceptable.

If the character has low forward Drive Rush Cancel, they should automatically be considered good.

M.Bison needs an emergency patch nerf. Him being able to go through rashid and ryu's projectile supers is just dumb.

And who's entertaining to watch in tourneys, etc. (true on Kim from that clip). JP being a bit lower is good, imo. Avoiding excessive zoning & mirrors is important. Balance is ideal. Great vid.

i was NOT entertained... ...by that Kimberly gameplay. I'm sure I'm an outlier, but I really don't like long, big-damage combos with elaborate sequences. I certainly utilize them cuz they're strong & that's how games are designed now, but I'd prefer if both players got to play more due to shorter combos that do less damage & don't lead to silly midscreen set play mix-ups. I really miss the adaptations in & evolution of a fight. It's why I've always preferred the SamSho games & the (early) SF games. They always felt like the more tactical fighters compared to others (MvC & KI spring to mind). 1 combo into 1 bad guesses = next round? Not the 2 player experience I look for in a FG game, especially a Street Fighter game. Maybe I should be a Gief player?

Man the skits are top notch! Now that said I absolutely hate this philosophy and how they go about it. Mainly because you can both make popular characters viable without making less popular characters less viable. Also there are plenty of characters that people don't have on the radar that get popular simply because they are good so how do they even know they aren't shooting themselves in the foot that way. It's so frustrating when you can see that Capcom isn't really trying with certain characters and then going all out to work on/fix others. It would be one thing if they tried some changes and they weren't enough one way or the other. But a lot of the time it just seems like they make token changes that don't really the "real" problems. With Manon she doesn't really play any differently. She has more options with combo routes, but her damage in in routes weren't really the problem. It really feels like they tossed her a cookie when she needed a new leg and left it at that. She's still my main and I still like using her. She's a viable character in that she technically can win against anyone. But I feel like they did her dirty by not really trying when it came time to adjust everyone.

My philosophy has always been that difficult characters to play and master should be at the top of competition. Really off putting when extremely difficult characters see little reward.

I think you raise a lot of good points but m bison is just miserably over tuned right now. They gave him those dlc steroids day and night now ranked mode is miserable.

I don’t think Bison is nearly as good as Akuma, for example. No AA, no defense, subpar damage for combos without the mine already planted and a lot of fake stuff to be punished. Also, Bison was always about air-to-air superiority. Not the case anymore. Which is a shame, because the new design is dope.

Grapplers and gimmick characters like Fuerte, Viper, Rashid, Abigail and Manon have no reason to be even half decent. They are nothing but roster slot fillers. Once a new SF game is released, they'll be quickly forgotten.
