About this video: We will be inspecting all of the Bee Barn's in the home bee yard to try to identify which beehive swarmed and landed in the plumb tree.
This Channel:
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. If you do enjoy my videos, please take a moment to spread the word about this channel and help it, and myself, grow. Have a great day and BEE Happy!

I will breaqk it out this year if I get stung. Last year I didn't get too many stings other than from Hive #5 at the farm.

Every week - like clockwork. Great video! I was worried a few weeks ago when you inadvertently used the name of the channel I'd been planning since last December. And now... finally posted my first video. No Beetle Sucker 5001 (yet)... but you KNOW who inspired that. I really enjoy your videos with visiting beekeepers. I only wish it were warm enough here in Indianapolis to actually go into the hives... our rule of thumb is "not until the overnight temperatures are above 50-degrees. But in GA... Go man! Keep inspiring new beekeepers, and keep working those Happy Little Bees!

Its nice to see the natural wood colour on your hives, mine are the same, I have started using a wipe on water based polyester coating, it is so easy to get it onto the wood and a coat dries really quickly.

Looking forward to getting into my hives. I released my 3 package queens about 4 days ago. We've had rain so I'm hoping I see eggs next inspection. I loved the scene with you running from the Yard. Once I just wanted to check something - you know a quick peek. I lived up the hive cover (at 5 pm - wrong time!) and wham I got stung in 2 seconds. I dropped the lid and ran like a little girl. Came back properly suited and closed them up like nothing ever happened.

That clip was from years ago when I didn't know that slow was fast. I was anxious and entered the hives with ultimate confidence and forgot to smoke the bees. You van actually see the bees sticking to my shirt.

I bought Hive Alive patties this year based on your recommendation. They seem to like them and easy to use. A little harder to get them used in my Apimaye hives. Next year I'm buying the new 1 piece feeders they came up with. That seems like it will work better for patty feeding.

I just sprayed them down with water and covered them with plastice wrap for an hour and they were re-hydrated.

Just a comment today those colony needs to do some major growth if you are planning on honey harvest this season also that first colony needed a super a long time ago because they looked like they were getting honey bound an that will for sure make them swarm with no room to lay. I was having to pull frames of pollen this year just get it out . I was getting four full frames of pollen an they were getting pollen bound an no were for her to lay. Good luck .
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 5 месяцев назад
I agree they did need supers and to be honest I wasn't expecting them to be that far along in early March. Fortunately for me bees have been known to move honey around the hive and I placed supers after filming so they all have ample space now. I never even considered pulling full frames to make room. I will be doing that in the future. Thank you.

Hip-hip....Horaaay! Just remember, be slow and steady, don't forget to smoke them before entering. Also, accept the fact that you will be stung a few times this season until you figure it out. It only hurts for a minute or two :-)

Almost every queen need marked? I found one that overwintered with a new queen, some needed fresh paint.. Hive Alive fondant seemed to have better growth than plain sugar brick in one colony as a trial run.

My markers keep getting cleaned off the queens. I have marked all of the queens in my bee yards twice. I am looking for different markers.

I moved the hive but the bees are still here. How can I get them to go back to their hive?
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 4 месяца назад
Once bees swarm it is difficult to get them to return to their original hive. If you take a frame of brood from another hive and add it to their new hive chances are pretty good they will stay in their new location provided you have captured the queen.
