A complete playthrough of Sony Computer Entertainment America's 2000 PlayStation TV game show adaptation, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 2nd Edition.
So, where's my check?
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire 2nd Edition's title might be confusing in the US - why call it second edition when the 1st edition never appeared anywhere but Europe? But it doesn't matter - for the US, this is the first officially released game based on the US version of the show starring Regis Philbin. It looks surprisingly close to the show, nails the sound design, and provides a nearly perfect facsimile of it. Except for the reward, of course.
If you love trivia, then obviously, you'll love this. If you don't care, well, that will also probably carry through. I enjoyed it, but I wished that the questions tended to be a bit harder. There aren't enough stumpers for my liking.
One question, though. If anyone has any idea, please let me know: why, when "Who wants to be a millionaire" is plainly a question is there no question mark in the title? It drives me nuts! The interrogative marker is not something to be brazenly ignored as if it were some non-shiny object - what is this?!

Yeah, but I think for a lot of people they'd sick to what's familar, you know? It's based on it, but without Regis a lot of Americans wouldn't see it as the same thing.

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but I think these games foreshadowed the eventual clock format that would be used on the syndicated version.

To me the clock really shows how great a host Regis was. It was so entertaining hearing him go back and forth with contests for a few minutes on a question. I feel like its ok to have a clock for the first 7-8 questions is ok, but towards the end the contestants should have more time, to stew over it.

There was a 1st Edition released for the PC. As far as I'm concerned, the edition numbers are largely based on their question sets; thus the PC, GBC, and PS1 ports of the 2nd Edition have identical question sets.

The load times in this version slows the game down. Stick with the PC and Dreamcast versions. Even the GBC version plays smooth, and THAT is a handheld.

By the time Super Millionaire was out, I wish the later installments of WWTBAM used the newer lifelines like double dip. That would've been great to see. I also think they should've added an option where you could customize the time on the clock for the questions.
