anyway I have a video about Jeopardy out right now and it's much better than this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JsiOn4OnF_g.htmlsi=O_IESUOQrfQoDwKo yes I know David Chang is the most recent winner, I made this video 7 years ago when I was a teenager 😭
*Who Wants to Be a Millionaire* - US Top prize winners: ◾ *David Chang* - Became the first top prize winner in the reboot and the first celebrity to win the million, for his charity, Southern Smoke Texas, on November 29, 2020. ◾ Sam Murray - Answered his question correctly during the Million Dollar Tournament of Ten and remained the only contestant to answer his question correctly on November 11, 2009. ◾ Robert Essig - Answered 12 questions correctly on Super Millionaire on February 23, 2004. ◾ *Nancy Christy* - Became the first only female top prize winner on May 8, 2003. ◾ Kevin Smith - First syndicated millionaire, winning the top prize on February 18, 2003. ◾ Ed Toutant - Won on September 7, 2001. Originally appeared on January 31, 2001, when the jackpot was at $1,860,000 when he was ruled out after answering his $16,000 question wrong. However, it was determined that there was an error in the question, so he was invited back and won the jackpot as it was at the time. ◾ Bernie Cullen - Won the top prize just five days after Olmstead's win on April 15, 2001. ◾ Kevin Olmstead - Won the top prize on April 10, 2001; however, because of the jackpot having been set to increase by $10,000 each episode, he won $2,180,000 - making him the biggest winner in television history at the time. ◾ David Goodman - Won on July 11, 2000. ◾ Kim Hunt - Won on July 6, 2000. ◾ Bob House - Won on June 13, 2000. ◾ Joe Trela - Won on March 23, 2000. ◾ Dan Blonsky - Won on January 18, 2000. ◾ *John Carpenter* - Became the first top prize winner in the history of the franchise on November 19, 1999.
Yeah for real. Nowadays they sit around in suspense for 30 seconds just to say they're going to a commercial break, and when the show comes back on they sit around for another minute.
@@char1zard443 I guess the lack of suspense kills the vibe, but I would rather be told right away than risk the possibility of fainting from shock or breaking in tears
everyone goes on about Carpenter but tbh I think 10:15 is the best scene. The moment he realizes that the final question is something he can definitely answer is just amazing. He looks so overwhelmed he struggles to even breathe. great show!
17:24 is such an amazing moment. You can see her start to get emotional as the right answer appears because she KNOWS she just won a million. No grand hurrah, no suspense, she just got something she knew and crushed it. And the first woman to win the million as well! Honestly I almost got emotional and I have zero attachment to her at all. What a moment
The John Carpenter moment was iconic. I remember watching it when it happened. Using a phone a friend to tell someone you are about to win the million...
remember it’s not just being able to answer the million dollar question correctly. You have to get in the contestant pool, win the challenge to get on the hot seat and answer all of the other questions correctly first
10:25 seeing that man's face from realizing he knows the answer to realizing he won 2 million before even answering is the best thing I've ever seen! 😂
Just the way he perks up while the question is being read. The real human emotions of a guy who (presumably) happens to be a huge nerd about the subject and can’t believe it’s about to pay off
While Carpenter is supreme in his big brain cockiness, Nancy Christy makes me cry every time. You could see that she knew early on, she still tells an entertaining story and the host is so excited. What a brain on that woman.
@@brandonbennett8368 Well, while I haven't watched the show in quite some time I think it's always been hard. Even if not, I don't believe any other game show offers anything close to a grand prize of a million dollars so I don't blame them lol. Well except for Wheel of Fortune, which makes it incredibly hard to even get the *CHANCE* to win a $Million. Even the show that requires the most intelligence, (or at least incredible memory/trivia skills) Jeopardy, can only gross you ~$30k per game (as long as your name isn't James Holzhauer anyway).
@@bellabliss1860 When I first saw his run on TV, I thought he was going to walk away with $500,000. He sure made a gutsy move going for it, despite not being 100% confident.
I LOVED Regis as the host. These were the simple times. The good ol days before 9/11. :/ and regis had all the winners too!!! I wish he would do one last season prime time of wwtbam!
1:35, 3:11, 4:29, 6:05, 7:18, 9:28, 12:35, 19:31 - HE’S WON A MILLION DOLLARS (Regis Philbin) 16:15, 17:54, 20:41 - You’re a MILLIONAIRE (Meredith Vierra) 10:47 - JUST WON $2,180,000 AND IS THE BIGGEST WINNER IN AMERICAN GAME SHOWS (Regis Philbin) 14:35 - HE GOT $1,860,000 (Regis Philbin)
They did bring back the original format for primetime. But only 1 thing, still no $1,000,000 WINNERS (no millionaires) & no fastest finger round (missing these 2 things) & they changed their set like the U.K. Millionaire 20th anniversary revival. Jimmy Kimmel is the next (new) host.
Well, some of the questions are like those found on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?", that is, they're school knowledge that we tend to forget after a long period of time.
These questions are soooo ridiculously easy, now that we have instant internet access almost everywhere. But back then knowing answers to them would be very impressive. And yeah, the first one’s boss move was dope af
Because of them not being able to reuse questions and they're being International versions Who Wants To Be A Millionaire got ridiculous after 2010. Questions worth $1,000 in 2015 would have been worth half a million in 1999-2000.
If this is the million dollar question, will you drop out? For an oblique section plane at an angle of 45° to the normal plane through a 2 force member with a cross sectional area of 0.0001 m², the maximum allowable normal stress is 150 MPa and the maximum allowable shearing stress is 75 MPa. What is the maximum value for the axial loading? A. 45 kN B. 30 kN C. 15 kN D. 7.5 kN
@@HEYitzED Unfortunately this video cut out the part before where Dan said "If this was a $4000 question I'd tell you right now" And of course, the million dollar question is only the final piece of the puzzle. You have to get through the previous 14 to even get a glimpse
Carpenter was the pioneer, but Kevin Smith is the GOAT for me. Unassuming trucker, family man, showed tremendous guts, and hugely emotional. And looks like Santa. His questions were way harder than Carpenter’s too.
@@FIXTREME Text to speech existed, but it was much, much slower to recognise words than it is nowadays. Broadband was only starting to make headway in 2000 as well, and you'd have to be living in an urban area to have a possibility of it.
The thing is that the questions were super easy by today's standards, because American entertainment companies have a lot of money and won't have trouble paying the winners. In other countries especially, these questions are much harder.
When 'C.... the dentist' appeared, we knew by Nancy's smile, that she knew. For me, this was the most genuine reaction and the most satisfying of winners.
@@erezsolomon3838 How about this? Let S = {u, v, w} be linearly independent set. Then which of the following sets is NOT linearly independent? (A) {2u, 2v, 2w} (B) {u, u + v, u + v + w} (C) {u − v, v − w, w − u} (D) None of the above
They did, it came back to Primetime ABC in 2020 with Jimmy Kimmel after the syndicated series ended in 2019. It lasted two seasons, it's only been off American TV since 2022
John Carpenter - J.C. Jesus Christ - J.C. Ok so we just confirmed Jesus made another stop here on earth only to win a million dollars like a boss then fuck off. What a legend.
I think you misinterpret the Bible. Magic is not the same as Miracles. Magic is an act of a human being, whereas a Miracle is an act of God. The story is written so that he was taught the value of hard work by his father, Joseph, as an apprentice.
Still remember seeing Johns as it was first broadcast as a kid. Loved watching WWTBAM when i was a kid as random facts and knowledge is kind of my thing. I even went through one of the 500k winner’s questions and got every one right.
This was such an amazing show! My Mom and I loved watching it on ABC. I remember there was a who wants to be a millionaire book with all kinds of questions. I would have a lot of fun with that, and I would pretend to be on the show
On November 2020, the 1st male celebrity contestant win 1 million dollars on a reboot particular game show, and the male celebrity name was David Chang. 1st time in 20 years.
1:35 *REGIS PHILBIN: He's won a million dollars!* *BEN TENNYSON: We have a first american Millionaire, did y'all hear it!* *BEN TENNYSON #15: ⭐ (CORRECT!)*
One comment pointed out that after 2002 they needed harder questions. Plus not a lot of this info was obvious because you didn't have the internet at the point qwhere it is today. And Paddington was never a big thing here until the movie came out. I bet "what steel driving man beat a rock drilling machine in a race to make a train tunnel" would be worth more than £1k even tho most second graders here have heard at least some variation of the John Henry story
@@khaotix64 🤣 It's universally recognised that the US is among the most remedial nations in the world. For those within, it's covered up with propaganda by the powers to be
Bob-O was the best one on the show. John Carpenter was another great person to be on the show! I love all these clips! Sam Murray was the best one of all. I was shocked how he got the answer right!!!
@@WelshWing98 I haven’t seen him yet I’m watching it on RU-vid TV and I’m about to see Bob House’s win. I’ll get to David eventually. Did he really ask for a Google search? I heard that there was a contestant named Steve Perry whose friend tried to look up the answer but didn’t look it up in time and he won $500,000 instead of the million.
@@robertwilliams5618 my understanding is that your phone-a-friend was in some hotel room paid for by the show, and it wasn't like you'd be monitored by some guard employed by the show to ensure you didn't cheat. one thing that's easy to forget was that this show was on in a time when the internet existed, but wasn't as dominant in day-to-day life. basically the late 90s to like the early/mid-2000s saying something like "just google it" would probably get a look of confusion from someone if they heard that, even though google did exist back then of course, if you were really tech-savvy back then, you'd know just how powerful and efficient search engines could be as gateways to knowledge. we all know this now, but i suspect the people running the game show didn't know that back in those days they eventually got rid of that lifeline i think because of phone-a-friends using search engines on their laptops more and more
@@samthenightowl5951 in our lovely dumbed down convict Australian version you can literally hear people typing and asking how to spell things as they look up the answer haha
i don't know about that, it sounded like at 8:15 he was with a group of people as you could hear him ask "anyone else" and just happened to be with someone that knew the answer. remember, dial up existed back then so there wasn't a whole lot of "looking up" in the year 2000.
As a brit I was very surprised to see that Paddington question for a million. In the UK, the first thing most people known about Paddington as that he’s from Darkest Peru.
i remember watching John Carpenter as a kid and not hearing what he said to his dad so i was yelling at the audience to stop cheering so he could read the question
8:25, you can very clearly hear the guy on the phone asking other people in the room. I think they ended up banning that, and I believe now they even have a person standing there in person to make sure you don't google the answers or ask anyone else.
It's always nice to share in the glory and successes of other people, even if I'm a bit jealous. Congratulations to all of you who now have life a little bit easier ;)
Regis: Tells you you've won a million before he's even heard your full answer Meredith: Sends you home thinking you were wrong and calls after five years: "just kidding, you won"
90% of these questions were answerable. Nowadays it's shit like "What shoes were Michael Jackson wearing when he died?" like wtf, why would an average everyday person know that? It isn't GENERAL knowledge anymore smh
