Fantastic video man! liked the style of this one. Esarhaddon's life would make a great movie....Would love to see an Assyrian army in a big budget movie
Thanks man, I really appreciate you saying that! His life would make a great movie, I'd love to see more historical films, Hollywood blockbuster level of production. They'll probs make "Pirates of the Caribbean 15" before that happens though.
we could never have assyrian culture depicted in movies today , because they refer very openly about the fact that there was a hybridisation between black and white headded people The bearded ones were violent psychopaths with little brains, the druids were the ones who did everything - the tech, the agriculture, the religion, anything intellectual like writing or crafting was done by the druids. It was a two class system, populated by two different species. Tough to explain that to a millenial sjw.
Big budget movie about brown people winning? i doubt hollywood of 2019 would ever touch it and the last time arabwood made a movie, it was filled with people shouting Allah is greatest, twin towers coming down, body parts everywhere. not a good look.
....the jews of the bible were/ ARE ASSYRIANS... OF ASSYRIAN DESCENT. The bible IS FAKE HISTORY, the jews AROSE AMONG their CANAANITE fellow tribesmen... who were of the same stock of SEMITES who came out of the Arabian desert thru Sumeria and took in Sumerian civilization...which they brought with them as they journeyed throughout the fertile crescent. El was the Canaanite god long before he "disposed" of his wife Ashera and became the god of the bible
I know this is an old video, but I wanted to say again how much I appreciate your work. When I started watching you, you reminded me of my dad. I was planning to show him some of your videos. He died last week, and now I'm sitting in his study, next to a bookshelf filled with stuff about the levant, watching your videos. He was an academic who specialized in old testament Bible with a focus on the historical context in which they were written. My first job was creating HTML links on an interactive guide to the book of Amos he'd created. He loved technology as a way of teaching people. I hadn't seen him for a while until he got sick, and I'm really sad I can't introduce him to your channel. I'm sure he'd find all your videos interesting. Your beard, short sleeve shirt, and that happy smile when you're talking about a topic that you enjoy is fantastic to see in someone else. You remind me that while he's gone, there are still great people in the world. Sorry if that's a bit much. Keep up the good work!
Just a quick FYI. The images of cuneiform tablets do not actually match the first hand sources. It's just to give you a little taste of the past, a little Hollywood magic if you will. Still fascinating to get a glimpse into the life of someone who died 2400 years ago.
Ha so I see! They probably get worse the further back you go. I've really been trying to improve, lots more videos on the stone age & ancient history to come!
Stefan I adore your videos. Esarhaddon is my favourite of the ancient kings, he is just so amazingly relatable and his story so characterful. I am a history/english/religion teacher in Norwich and have recommend your videos to students that show interest in anthropology or ancient history. Really wanted to say just how much I love your content.
How come your a Brit living in USA? I have to say I love your ability to take a subject, which could be dull or complicated, and turn it into something fascinating and gripping! Your succinct presentation style and cheerful delivery makes you compulsive watching! Kids need you to teach them history. Your enthusiasm for your subject is compelling!
Humility is a very important part of being a good leader Stefan. I really enjoy your videos for the great information in addition to your delivery and relatability. You seem like a really good egg! Keep up the great work and your chin as well! It is appreciated.
Better content than legitimately 99% of channels out there. And about one of my favorite topics, too! I wrote an entire Mesopotamian fantasy book based on the substitute king tradition 😂
If you’re interested in learning more about the Assyrians there is an assyriologist at the British Museum called Irving Finkel who is an incredibly charismatic and engaging teacher who is a number of very interesting videos on RU-vid talking about various Assyrian items at the museum
Great video. It's nice that we can look into the life of these people who lived such a long time ago. I do feel sorry for all the people throughout history that died in vain.
I've been binge-watching your fantastic videos since the weekend, when they first rolled across my feed. Your well-rounded enthusiasm, wit, brains and - by golly, yes your humble erudition is a delight. I'm damn picky, too, so take these props for all they're worth. Paz y luz from an old history buff. ☆☆☆☆☆
We are Assyrians. Northern Mesopotamia is part of the Assyrian heartland. Nearly six million Assyrian Christians dot the world. Mesopotamia is the homeland of the Assyrians. The famous royal cities of the Assyrians, Ashur, Nimrud (Kalhu), Arbela, Dur-Sharrukin and Nineveh were built in it. The Assyrians ruled for approximately 1,300 years - from about 2000 B.C. to 612/10 BC - in northern Mesopotamia an ancient landscape between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. A clear reference to the existence of the Assyrians, on the other hand, can already be found in the Old Testament (1st Book of Moses 2:14). There it says: * “… the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates..."
Histamine is a hugely important neurotransmitter that _directly_ causes paranoia as well as all the physical symptoms you listed. So much of human history has been in part because of histamine histamine, and so much of human culture to this day is dedicated to controlling its effects (sex, art, religion, sport, drugs/alcohol, etc)
Ancient mesopotamia is fascinating. I love a bit of no budget education. Thanks again. It's like an ancient game of thrones. Kind of reminds me of the plantagenets, brother against brother.
I am Assyrian and proud of your work, unfortunately due to the lack of resources for Assyrians in there home lands and pour Assyrian’s current situation (thanks to UK) there are not many Assyrians that have access to information that you do, keep up the great work and many thanks
Substitute King at 6:50 is similar to a Christian principal taught by Saint Paul regarding the first Adam and the second Adam. The first Adam is a stand in, and prefigures the pre-human Messiah who became the first born from the dead. The first Adam foreshadows the second Adam in a flawed way, in that he is unable to measure up to the LORD’s standards (The Torah). The first Adam is made from the dust the second Adam is made from the spirit of God. This is why we must follow Christ and die with him so that we may be raised with him. When we follow him he gives us a spiritual advocate, that comforts us in the difficult training we must endure, our entire lives. The first Adam will be in Heaven too. Adam #1 was setup to fail so that The LORD could shape him in his image. Think of him as a seed planted in the Earth, that would be pruned until it produced the seed of Adam #2. Adam #2 is also being pruned, we Christians are the branches. See John 15, Romans 5:12-21; & 1st Corinthians 15:12-34.
Hey, I just had a great idea for a movie or TV show: it is about the Assyrians, and one of those "eclipse" kings is the king we follow, and only after we are atttached to the king and think he is legit is it revealed to us, the audience, that he is just a stand-in.
isn't Sennacherib pronounced Se-nak-er-rib ??? That's because Middle Eastern Semitic languages like Assyrian, Hebrew, or Arabic refers to "ch" with a hard "k" sound? You know like Chanukkah where the Ch refers to a hard and breathy H sound. Pronouncing the "ch" like the sh sound as in chewy is found in Western European languages.
The proper pronunciation is beyond your ken, because you cannot say the eighth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, as this sound does not exist in English. But the syllabation is: SAN-CHE-RIV, with three syllables and not four. There is not any hard "K"sound in this name. But it does contain the word for 'sword' inside it. CHEREV means sword.
@@72Yonatan so if it is impossible to attempt to pronounce the eighth Hebrew letter "ח", are you content to let the English speaking world wish you a "happy sha-nu-ka?" שלם שלם?
Where do you get your pronunciation of ancient names from. I’m not kidding, I know it’s hard. The “ch” in Sennacherib is a rolled, gutteral(?) sound, typical of Arabic languages. Read it as if it’s spelled with a “k” - Sennakherib.
My ex-wife sent me an envelope like those two in your stash box, it was just trim, but, oh... what fine trim. From a dispensary in Bergan County I think. I wonder if someday they will find this comment written in cuniform on a mud brick. I hope so. OG kush i believe.
lol everybody joking about him being stoned, i think moah, maybe, who knows... then the man has a supply and a grinder and everything under his bed haha. i lolled so hard at that
So, the problem is you keep overestimating people. If you just put together a compilation string of young women slipping over or dancing provocatively, mixed in with some dashcam footage of car crashes and people falling through roofs, your subscriber count would increase by several orders of magnitude.
I like several of your topics but I am put off by your lack of researching standard pronunciations of Semitic names like Sennacherib [ suh na ker ib ] . Are you not in anthropology? Linguistics is part of anthropology. In English, scholars pronounce this name with a [ k ] sound not a [ch] sound.
Do you still fly a British flag in your room? Do you like to identify with an institution that build itself with genocide? Saying you only identify with the good parts ignores truth. That flag is a symbol for everything Britain has been. I’m not saying you’re a bad person, I celebrated being Canadian until I learn of the residential schools. We always have a choice even if we forgot that we do.
You might want to invest your passions into these great tops. Some of us want to take you seriously, and it is ok to be a stoner in our lives, but lead. Quit following
Why this Jewish guy suddenly decided to recall the ancient history of Assyria!? Probably because the Assyrian kings always kicked asses to Jewish kings throughout the history of Israel. And in the end, they destroyed Israel. Correct me if I'm wrong.
