One of the greatest NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers ever. Jack Sprague became a legend of the early Truck series with Hendrick Motorsports. But many know him for his short stint in the Cup Series unaware of his accomplishments.

My favorite thing about the truck series is the gate keepers. Todd bodine, johnny benson, hornaday, skinner, hamilton, sprague, crafton, etc

Johnny Benson...the best that never was in my opinion. He ran top 10 races in top 25-30 equipment. Especially when he ran that all white car.

I played a lot of NASCAR games, and he was a pain in the ass to try and beat every race, and season. I eventually said screw it and whenever he came near my truck I just tried to get behind him and draft off of him. The way the game had him set up was not an overrating, but sometimes I felt the game had him underrated in my opinion. He deserves to be in NASCARS Hall of Fame. Why he hasn't been voted in yet is a poor showing by the HOF voters.

I caught one small detail that you missed. Jack's return to the Truck Series was actually a strange situation. He was offered a contract before the 2003 season ended with IWX Racing. Initially it was assumed they were expanding, but it would soon be announced that he was replacing Kvapil. Kvapil went on to win the championship, then had to go clean all of his stuff out of the shop the following Monday. Fortunately for Kvapil he had gotten hired by that point, though it was with the controversial BANG Racing.

My favorite driver in the truck series. He reminded me of Dale Earnhardt in a way but in the trucks. Dude was just a beast behind the wheel but had terrible luck many times. He was able to win 3 championships in the trucks and is the only driver I have ever known to literally burn the rear end of the truck up on fire doing burnouts at Richmond in 2001. I had 3 of his diecast trucks too.

Didn't mention how Jack drove the #24 cat in cup at Bristol to sub for Gordon. I always felt Sprague was a back up for Gordon if he had also gotten sick. Skinner the same as he also drove the #3 at the brickyard after Dale got hurt at Talladega.

Not really, he sucked in cup and busch, so he had to troll around the truck series cause it wqs the only place he had a chance of winning, not to mention he was one of the dirtiest drivers of his era

Jack Sprague was a driver I never really got the chance to respect. I say that cause I never really got into trucks until 2008, and by then, he was starting to decline, already being second fiddle to Hornady in the KHI starts he did get and also suffering from the leeching issues that really only Skinner, Benson, Bodine, and Hornady had regular answers answers for at the time. All in all, I think recency bias definitely hurts Sprague a lot, but you can't really argue against him being a truck HOFer. Even the greats fall down eventually.
