Arguably the best merchant. I had a brilliant idea of filling up my barn with ostriches (and pigs ofc), so Sandy's been my milk dealer for a couple of months now - and for free, no less. Plus, how can I hate my wife's friend?
you did the best you could with the little we are given... i think its also possible that when she rented the room to Q and his casino he made it a condition that she always has to work the shop as a weird little front...she is not a member and never went inside. sometimes emily visits... i feel sad for sandy :( she needs to get a house in the valley like leo, maybe move in with her "friend emily"
If you think about it thats the only shops(not traders but a proper shop) that have rotating stock are Robin’s, where we assume she rotates items made by her/she has in stock and all make sense - furniture and decorations for house and Sandy’s Oasis with some quite random items (seeds, shirts, plants, coconuts, geodes, lamps) you could almost think that it’s not really set for real business. So the money laundering fits quite well here.
I seriously doubt she is in witness protection. If she was in witness protection she wouldn't be allowed to see anyone from the valley . Also I doubt the police would be worried about a drunk driver enough too put someone in protection .
Sandy's outfit gives me octopus vibes and after finding out that sandy isn't her real name and she burns easily in the sun I thought maybe she's a mermaid that Mister Qi kidnapped from ginger island or Pelican town at the night market. And then as a mermaid she sleeps in that little pond in the oasis
Maybe that's why she and Emily bonds so well. Emily is capable of psychedelic magic akin to the mermaids and Stardrops (which Willy confirms is connected).
I've been told that Sandy is canonically in her 20's, which is a bit disappointing. I'd have guessed 40 from the screenshot. I get that the farmer is young, but I'm an old fart, and a number of the marriage candidates seem like -children-.
Yeah, most of the marriage candidates seem as if they are barely into their adult lives and still struggling to figure out the basics of their "next life steps," which I suppose does provide them the necessary flexibility to just "up ship" at any time for their soon to be "FANTABULOUS" new life on the farm, mostly forgoing their entire previous life! It could be/could've been different, but would that work much better? Some of the mods have marriageable candidates with lives already full of jobs, home, and other responsibilities... And it seems quite unrealistic that someone with so much that has built up so much of their independence just throws it away so easily and quickly to instead stand around the farm, staring at walls and occasionally using the watering can. I particularly wish we had an option to allow others to pair up after we found our significant other. It would help keep longevity play on a single farm more interesting over the years. Then we could have fun seeing all of it mixed up on different farms. Omgosh, did I just imagine freaking some sick form of Stardew Swingers??? I hope not! Nnnnoooooooo, I didn't... Did I???
@@killerlalu1 There's a mod similar to your idea of pairing the villagers up called the Life Cycle mod. The pairs that are available in that mod are: Lewis and Marnie Shane and Emily Emily and Clint Leah and Elliot Haley and Leah Haley and Alex Abigail and Sebastian Harvey and Maru Penny and Sam Only 2 of the couples can have kids as of now I believe (HarveyxMaru and PennyxSam). But yeah this mod is amazing, and each pairing has their own heart events.
Agreed! At least the male options have Harvey and Elliott (and Shane...). But if you are into women most of them act like teens to very young adults. No matter their canon age, Abigail and Maru behave like 16 year olds. Penny and Leah seem a bit older but still super young and not relateable or a good fit for me at almost 30. I wish there was someone like Robin to romance :(
@@inscrimblyhonestly they should vote for Sandy,if I'm not mistaken the vote winner is Emily, Emily live in town, dev would give her attention win or not but for Sandy since she far away and she not win,she just there 🤷
@@larryfoulke1596 i think the reason she didnt win was because it was 1.0 and the game wasnt popular at that time. i also bet not alot of players or voters really knew her. the game got popular after emily and clint became marriage candidates. the other one was the wizard and he lost to shane. let me repeat that THE WIZARD LOST TO SHANE. yea that was a scuffed poll.
I never knew Sandy actually leaves her shop, even tho she does it once a year except when the player invites her to the movies... (if Sandy is always monitored by Mr. Qi, it would make sense that he'll be okay that he'll allow her to go outside the desert with us, his 'apprentice') Anyways ig it is weird that I find Sandy to be one of the most interesting (& mysterious) character in the game despite having not much dialogues, little to none schedule, and no noteworthy cutscenes. Hope she gets more but at the same time ig it's okay if her whole deal with the shop and all is left for speculation (maybe if she had her bedroom at the back of the oasis my mind would have one less reason to keep me up at night)
Theory 99. Sandy was Lewis assistant. She found out that Lewis was cooking the books to make his golden statue. Sandy threatened Lewis, but he told her that no one would believe her. So, she asked Emily to help her escape the valley. So Emily asked Pam to take Sandy to the desert for free beer at the pub. Of course, Pam said yes. Pam took Sandy to the desert. Sandy ran into Mr qi. Mr qi gave Sandy a job at the oasis and a new name. Mr qi gives her a cut each month not to ask questions and be a look out... This all happened on fall 15, which is why Emily visits her. On the way back to the valley, Pam crashed the bus, causing the bus to be out of order. Also, hello from Australia 🇦🇺
Money laundering, definitely. I think Sandy is a fun character and definitely the prettiest, but why is her pfp a profile shot? Also, how does that dress work?!
Of the two options you discussed, I lean towards the money laundering theory. But honestly, I'm now really intrigued by the "is Sandy actually Krobus" theory
I always just assumed Sandy inherited the shop as some sort of family business. She doesn’t really _love_ it but it’s the kind of thing that she keeps running for the sake of it. As for the casino, idk maybe Mr. Qi is her dad /j
I think maybe she's last survivor of whatever happened in skull cavern. Scary event that turned people into iridium slime and mummies. Mr. Qi who familiar with this level of strangeness is taking care of her and maybe let her have her own place to call home. She's best friend with Emily because Emily is open mind and accept this kind of strangeness too. (Kind of not related but in game, there's desert picture you can hang on the wall and it showing picture of bigger oasis. I think the desert actually got "real town" buried under our feet and real Oasis river is that river on area we couldn't reach. Whatever tragic happened here make Wizard buried Sandy's whole hometown and sealing the Skull cavern. Leave us only sad little pond to fishing...)
@@Leapalot the mummy levels at least do certainly have scriptures on the walls... then again, the normal mines have ghosts that you can kill, somehow it could either be wacky magic, or both mines are haunted by the souls of once living people who probably died venturing into them
When I got the movie theatre opened I bought a ticket for the first time and gave it to Sandy. I felt bad for her being by herself out in the desert and tend to visit now and then thanks to the obelisk. I also found it sweet of Emily to be with Sandy on her birthday, never knew she did that when I went to the desert that one night.
I think Qi is paying Sandy a stupid amounts of money to stay there and that Hat Mouse's home was once Sandy's, before she moved to the desert and took the name Sandy. My theory would mean that Emily knew Sandy before she took on the name Sandy, which makes it weird that Emily calls her Sandy. But maybe Sandy just asked her to. Idk
If you ever decide to dabble in writing Stardew fanfiction, I just want you to know that I would read the hell out of that because you have some really neat hypotheses about all the townsfolk!
i like to think sandy and mr. qi are siblings XD i am one to believe mr. qi when he says that he was born an ordinary boy, so it wouldn't be outlandish at all for him to have a sister
The expanded mod have a really sweet cutscene where sandy spends an entire day in the valley with the farmer and Emily! Someday, you should review the expanded mod!
combine them. She faked her death and changed her name because the law was after her. She has some extreme debts by the local village cartel, so she has to stay put and money launder with her shop and have a casino upstairs. She is the front face so nobody suspects the place upstairs. Emily is her last connection to the village but visiting is such a high risk that she only does it one time a year.
What about Krobus? He’s the last non marriage candidate you haven’t done yet. I would love to see a video about all your theories on him, since Krobus is also one of the most mysterious characters in the game that we know little about other then that his and Dwarf’s people use to be at war with each other a long time ago.
My theory was that she was a member at the casino and fell into a huge debt to Mr. Qi so now she has to work as his new decoy in the shop lol. She would probably have to lie to Emily too that she liked it in the desert and enjoyed tending the shop even though there aren't any regular customers.
i love the narrative where emily and sandy are girlfriends they are so sweet together, and i bet if anyone knew what was up with sandy, it would be emily i think both theories make sense, but if the second one were to be true, i don’t think sandy would genuinely know exactly what’s going on above her she probably has an idea, but like the said, they pay a nice rent to keep her quiet
i’m actually super interested in the idea of witness protection sandy, especially a drunk driving accident. maybe a long time ago pam was fired from driving the bus because of an… accident. after the community center was remade, the only person that had bus driving expertise/wanted to drive the bus was pam
Head cannon: Mr Qi illegally owns Sandy changing her name with the bouncer thier to make sure she doesn't try to escape or Smuggle stuff out. Think Jabba the hut from Star wars or Yubaba from Spirited Away
Wait, why the crime is something so simple as a bus crash? Now, hear me out: what if what "Sandy" saw was murder? One certain prolific adventurer that wanted to share the secrets of the Spirits of the Nature, the Stardrop Enigma, how to duplicate precious stones like Diamonds... One certain Jasper. Maybe Rasmodius was in it, and so was Linus, since he "has his reasons" for being alone in the backwoods. Maybe Sandy's true name has nothing to do with the Calico Desert but with gems and she (he?) is Jasper rightful heir. Perhaps Gil tried to intervene, that's why he's tied to a rocking chair and only leaves for some movies (new, unexpected content). Who knows if the accident that got George's legs was on purpose, aimed for someone else (he says it was about 30 years ago, Sandy's age is late 20's)... And Emily knows about the existence that Mr. Qi protects and Rasmodius dare not come back to finish the job because she can commune with stones (Rock Revival Special Request) and has some meditative training (she has her own "Magicant"!), but she can only go so deep as "Sandy exists and this is their birthday".
You know I do like that you keep calling Sandy Emily's girlfriend, as that's what I thought she and Emily were before Emily became a rommance option. In fact if I could change anything I'd make Emily and Sandy girlfriends, and even if you get married to Emily they are still together. If you want Emily Sandy comes as a packaged deal, because I would make Emily polyamorous. Though I would keep Sandy monogamous. She still would be support Emily being poly, and encourage her to pursue other relationships if she wants to without getting jealous. She just wouldn't be interested in also dating the farmer, or have threesomes. She is ride or die for Emily and her alone. If the farmer wants to marry Emily they have to accept she is seeing Sandy as well. I would also say that your witness program thing could work here. It would answer why Emily and Sandy aren't married. Sandy kinda had to go, but she didn't want to make Emily leave everything behind. And with Emily being Haley's caretaker while her parents are gone she couldn't leave even if she wanted to. Also think that rpederses idea of Sandy being in her 40's is a cool idea for this pairing. I'd have Emily be in her 30's, with a decade between them. And Haley being into older women. A 10 year age gap matters less when you are 30 after all. If any modders see this please make it a mod! I'd play the shit out of it if it was TwT
Maybe I'm culturally inept, but I see a lot of people wanting or headcanon-ing Emily as being poly, but I never really understood the reason. What's wrong with her being being monogamous?
Ok my takeaway from this video has nothing to do with Sandy I always thought the Jade to Staircase trade was bad, but I was not aware of how quick they were in crystalariums and you prompted me to look it up and I now see the appeal. Thank you.
@@Leapalot I'll comment some more then :) this one was my first one but I already watched and liked all your videos, I discorvered you through the SDV trials and have watched ever since I geniunely feel you deserve much more recognition. I am absolutely in love with the Exposing the Valley series. It'll be exciting to see if you got alot of the theories correct about diffrent NPC's, guess we'll see in the future when the game gets more updates. Much love from Denmark :)
I never talk to Sandy😅 I don’t know why because I was always curious about her, but I was to lazy to actually talk to her. I never go to the desert for any other reason than the skull cavern anyway
Nah I doubt it would be witness protection, one, Stardew Valley has like 30 people in it tops, so crime happening that would require a witness protection program is very unlikely. Two, she still hangs out with Emily and corresponds regularly, and Emily doesn't exactly keep that a secret, either. Can't think of anything to debunk the second theory, though, so it's at least plausible.
i love hearing about the sandy theories, i find the theories make Stardew valley funner sandy definitely reminds me of the gerudos ... only because of the red hair and lives in the desert. i love the gerudos and i see emily and sandy as a couple thats why i only go to 8 hearts with emily i dont want to take sandys girlfriend lol
Maybe it's both: She went into witness protection for whatever reason and after working for some time as 'Sandy' she ended up as Mr. Qi's patsy in the oasis.
great video!!! loved these since i dont normally dive into the character lore or story or anything since on the surface, the game is pretty shallow haha. you make it awesome!
I’m picking the first option; while I’m someone who prefers strong platonic relationships in my media, I think it’s curious and ponder-y if Sandy and Emily are a couple divided by witness protection because something untoward happened in SDV. The casino could have been there from the beginning; the bouncer just doubles as a guard now. Awesome video as always~
Sandy and Emily DESTROYED my chest with Sandy’s gift’s in it when they went to hang out by the bench. At first I was mad, but then I thought it was cute the CA gave them this cute little path around the desert for her birthday
