I like that is an increasing attention to talk about geography in the narration before entering on cultural and sociological aspects. Epimetheus is really perfecting his craft.
This focus on the geography is particularly important for locations like Canaan, since so much of the area's history is heavily influenced by its geography.

I wish more history channels would follow this type of formatting. Very concise, no quick cuts or lame jokes. The map was very helpful and I feel like I was able to digest a lot in a very short time. Well done. You get a thumbs up from me fella :).
That was so good! The animated visual aids were nice to look at, easy to follow, and moved fluidly with narration; the detailed topography breakdown was unlike anything I'd seen before; and so much information packed into under 15 minutes. Nice. 👍👍🏆🥇
Wow, geography and relief maps make such a difference in understanding history. They tell so much about where and why civilizations and people developed where they did and why battles happened in the locations they did. People so frequently gloss over geography when discussing this region, but it really makes such a difference. Great video!!
As a Palestinian, I wish to express my appreciation for your work, which has undoubtedly enlightened me regarding the hitherto undisclosed historical facets of the region. This is particularly significant for me, given my origins in Tel al Safi (Gath).
@@Ahmad-oh6icthis you actually got wrong. Cananites are a subgroup of the Phoenicians. Phonecians were a vast spans of people, and many lived in both Judea and Jerusalem and later many became Jewish. DNA sampling suggest that ancient Phoenicians lived on to what is today people living in Israel and Lebanon. The Palestinians of today are not so much unified group of people. Many came to the region in the 1800s from both Jordan and Lebanon, as part of Arab immigrants. Some Arab tribes lived in the region longer and an often be defined as we today call Palestinians, even though they at this time did not have a unified name for the people in the region. This is important as the idea of one group having a claim over another doesn’t really match on in either of the Jewish or Arabic cases. But have ties there, both population were exchanged over time and expelled at different ages. The original people are long dead, and only ancestors who are a mix of so many cultures and ethnics since then, are alive today. If an argument of the area belonging to solely belonging to Arabs, then similiar claims must be true for the European crusaders and their offspring that for a long time lived in the region. Same as the Christian population who often is called “Christian Arabs” or “Christian Palestinians”. Remember, these Christian have longer ties to the region as they never left, and DNA studies reveal a much different profile than Muslim Arab counterparts, indicating a separation much earlier. In other words, this conflict is not Arabs vs Jews, it is not natives versus invaders.
Thanks very much! I've often wondered about the Canaanities, Hyksos and Philistines. You put a lot of work into this video to make the complicated history of that area easy to understand!
@@bungalo50 One can point to literally any nation or area on a map and there would be a string of people who were native to/controlled the area at one point or another. Heck, there's even theories/evidence that China was originally colonized by Denisovans and Ainu-like peoples, before the modern Asians arrived and drove them out. The only areas that could be considered pristine would be pre-contact North and South America.
@@FsimulatorX it collapse in a similar way. Every sort of plague and natural disaster met with war and famine and pestilence and earthquake and every natural disaster destroying Rome and people die. Bronze age collapse no different to Roman collapse. Hence my joke
@@noahtylerpritchett2682 Actually true, most of the old tecnology gets lost. Advanced societies devolve into more tribal associations again, romes fall really has a lot in common with the bronze age collapse.
This is really a wonderful video. The combination of history, topography, and your art is incredibly enjoyable and informative. Thank you very much for making this. I hope you do more of this kind of historical-geographic analysis in the future.
@@ilayohana3150 Damn! I was interested in seeing it until you said you would not be interested. Now I am no longer interested because your opinion has such weight.
That was fascinating. I liked your explanation of the 4 terrains and the highlights of the terrain in different colours. That helped my simple mind. Loved it all :)
This was great work! 👏 I’m Jordanian Christian from Al Salt and Madaba (mountains in north east of Dead Sea region), and I did 23andMe, and my paternal haplogroup is E-M123, found in Canaanites, and generally South Levant people. Around 15% of Ashkenazi Jews are E-M123 and same for Jordanians and I love that, because it means that we are from a single group of male ancestors that have deep roots to the region! Peace ☮️
Awesome. Very helpful in piecing together numerous fragments of knowledge that I've held in my head. It's amazing how something like this can be like putting together a section of a huge jigsaw puzzle. The problem is remembering this. Alas the pieces don't stay in place in my head. But something lingers perhaps. Thanks!
@@EpimetheusHistory Wow this video is fantastic. Every line is a point. Your channel deserve more subscriber. According to my account your channel is the best channel on RU-vid I liked your channel very much. Your channel is my favourite .I liked your all videos. Please keep up this type of work in future please. Your all videos are stunning. I am your old subscriber from 500 subs But can you please make a video on Skanderbeg?
@@EpimetheusHistory hey epimetheus, we’re the Hyksos basically mamluk warrior slaves/mercenaries? Hence their families came as well? What do you think of this theory?
@wolfs hordes well no, the Egyptian dynasty with any Semitic paternal dna is the Hyksos dynasty and the dynasty after that. Both had very dark brown skin and black skin. We found out some had blonde hair but no red in the Hyksos dynasty and the 18th dynasty. The Hyksos had no Celtic pottery, Celtic language, no Celtic customs that could be seen in bodies after several thousand years. R1b-v88 is thought to come from Syria. In reality, the Irish have dna from these Neolithic agriculturalists who spread to Europe.
You've definitely helped me better understand how the early world functioned, and just how much of a role that topography and resource distribution played into that. From the copper mines on Cyprus bringing wealth to that island, to the water reserves at Jericho which allowed that city to prosper, you really go out of your way to explain how the land shaped us as a species. Thank you for creating this content, the work you put into these videos is wonderful.
Well think about it it’s in the center of the “known world” between Europe, Asia, and Africa. In addition, the Bible says that the area is “a land of milk and honey” which means that it has lots of resources and riches. So, it has been prime real estate for many a empire in history. Except the Romans, who called the area a wasteland essentially.
@Ghost Ghost The Jewish-Roman wars is what I think you are referring to. Those were three wars. That does not stop them from saying that Judea was a wasteland. Judea was nothing to the Romans. They didn’t understand the conflicts there.
@Flavius Ibrahimius well I misunderstood. But the video is about Canaan. And people fought for Canaan for millennia too. So, that’s what I thought. It was a misunderstanding.
It's the only place between three continents. Without America, the center of the world is in Central Asia, but with America which is closer to Europe than Asia (except for Alaska), the center of the world goes to Israel, where God chose to have his throne, the middle of the biggest desert region in the world from the Gobi to western Sahara. It is also between seas (Red and Med. of course). It is perfectly situated for the Messiah, but the Anti-Christ shall rule before Jesus returns.
@@Tiger_Fanatic Judea was nothing to them? So why did they lose thousands to keep it? It's like the US claiming Iraq is worthless. Then why rape it based on a lie? I did a video proving that the US funds ISIS.
Man thank god you do these beautiful videos of Ancient history. It would be sooo interesting seeing a Bronze Age Northern European or maybe more in France and Alps, keep up the absolutely beautiful work!
I really love how once you understand the topography and geography of a place like Canaan you begin to underatand the literature surround such a place on a whole other level. It's a great shame that geography isn't taught more widely.
@@EpimetheusHistory It's like trying to teach painting without teaching drawing. You'll figure out ideas about colour theory but you won't be able to see how it comes together.
@@DCdabest I'd go with it's more like trying to teach landscape art without teaching the rules of perspective. People can duplicate what they see alright enough without them, but understanding them really adds to the sense of depth in the image
This is a very good explanation as it refers to the natural topography and geography of the area, which is ignored by most so-called historians but which are the absolute defining element in differentiation of populations and whatever follows these populations as we see back and call their stories as history.
This explanation is the first I hear which concludes literally everything in one small episode regardless of religion, language and holiness I needed ten days just to go over every single piece of information you had produced here. you are a genius. Thank you
Well done! I particularly like your maps. They help to make clear why people/peoples settled in different areas and fought in specific places. I would like even more granular maps. Guess I will have to consider Patreon so I am worth listening to. Will look at more of your stuff to help me make that decision. Till then, thank you!
Glad youtube suggested you, great video. I appreciated the geography and elevation overview of the region too. That really helped me grasp the lay of the land of the region in a much better way than I've come across until now! I also liked seeing the surrounding tribes' territory. When you read and hear about all these endless different '-ites' but can't visualize how they relate to each other geographically and who's in what type of climate and therefore lifestyle it doesn't click the same way at all. Great work!
Found it quite informative all the way through, but the call to individual responsibility and ignoring collective guilt in the end was what made me really respect you. Sub guaranteed.
I’ve been waiting on a Canaan video, my most recent research has been around them! Epimetheus, you never disappoint, AND always post RIGHT when I need it!
One of the most informative videos I’ve seen.very well put together and executed. You have a God given talent of explaining things…well done Most enjoyed the water hydrant of information in layers ….wow so kewl
You realize 66 readily available books of lore were written about this area and its people, right? There are reasons why this particular story has that feel to it.
Well the stories from the bible were taken and adapted to fit European culture so it is more lore than historical fact. Its a lore meant to elevate the European higher than their lowly standing in the bible. It's the same reason why they hid the fact that they're the biblical gentiles. Gentiles are a people that come from japheth but they changed the meaning so they wouldn't be isolated for breaking the new covenant.
During my studies of the Holy scriptures it's interesting that I can see the places in my head but to be able to see them in front of my face like you presented them is really outstanding thank you sir
The Canaanites were not what they are preaching they make them light skin so you through your ignorance will think Jewish people can fit in that land Canaan was the fourth son of ham Noah youngest son who became the father of the African races Hamite Africans are jet black so Canaanites were jet back most of the giants were the Canaanites
I mean, how many people on RU-vid even talk about the Bronze Age? One of the biggest reasons I'm subscribed to this channel is because it is a lot of quality content about the Bronze Age
I don't know. I need more proof. Maybe if Epimetheus makes a video about the formation of the Aramaean kingdoms during the Bronze Age Collapse or something, *wink wink*
Thank you for an informative, entertaining video. I look forward to learning more about my new home, Akko, which according to this, is in ancient Phoenicia/Canaan.
Jerusalem was a Canaanite city before being invaded by David. Phoenicians were also Canaanites. They invented the alphabet. Must compliment the author on a brilliant non-political balanced presentation, his excellent graphics and on his last positive humanitarian comment.
I would like to appreciate how in this video each section of geographic location and factors are described in a very simple and easy way. Absolutely amazing job done.. I am a student as well as a teacher of history.. And I always try to learn from these kind of videos and learning tools to, how we can describe history and geography. ♥ Thank you.. Much appreciation from my side.
It's finally making a lot of sense. The Bible recounts a lot of references to the sea, fishermen and fish. Fish and bread was a staple diet within that region. And to be able to conjure it would mean one that can catch many fish. It's very likely the farmable land produced an abundance of fish and bread due to it's coastline and farmable land.
Awesome video Epi! You should totally do a video about the Scythians or the Achaemenids! I think both would be fantastic videos!! Also the Malians, Kushites, Minoans, and the Celts would be amazing!!!
You forgot the Bible History, they are the ones who live in babylon, Canaan, egypt, philistia, Moab, Ammon, israel. They are the men of ABRAHAM, LAMECH, ISAAC, ENOCH, NOAH, MOSES, GOLIATH, DAVID KING OF ISRAEL.
