All is set for Portugal, and on 24 February the country will start deciding on who could potentially be their Eurovision 2024 representative. That's the date for Festival da Canção 2024 Semi-final 1.
Today, Portugal's public broadcaster RTP held a press conference in Lisbon's Music Box where the 20 songs up for the honor were revealed.
The press conference was hosted by Inês Lopes Gonçalves, a familiar face of the Festival da Canção.

FdC is always such a wonderful chill. No chicken-AI-kittykitty songs, but just honey for the soul. I really appreciate the Portuguese for not caring about the opinions and expectations of others and going their own way.

Here in Portugal 🇵🇹, people are leaning towards “Grito” , “You Can’t Hide” , “Água” , “Pontos Finais” & “…Pelas Costuras”.

Some tidbits : - For the first time ever, this year all the composers of FdC will perform their own songs. (And the only ones not singing theirs are No Maka) - I've checked Leo Middea's music when he was announced as a composer and his voice is a bit similar to Salvador Sobral, but with Brazilian accent. - Huca's song is a tribute to Sara Tavares, who represented Portugal at Eurovision 1994, and died last November at just age 45. - The language of Maria João's song snippet is Tsonga, that is spoken in countries like Mozambique and South Africa.

I believe Filipe Sambado also will not sing his song, Mila Dores is singing the song he wrote. But I might be wrong :D

Would love Maria João to win, because a) this may be just me but her voice sounds like someone taught prime Kate Bush Portuguese and said "go for it", and b) we would get another new language at Eurovision with parts of the song in Tsonga (Changana). But I recognize that's about as long of a long shot as they come.

I just listened to all the songs, for sure most authentic selection. Sometimes it is such a shame that slower songs are dismissed. It has become so competitive. Please take the time listen to them all. Appreciate them just for the song.

João Borsh is such a breath of fresh air this year! i think it would be nice ro step away from the ballads we usually send it, though Grito is one of my favorites aswell ❤❤

I know it sounds straight out of the 80s and may not qualify out of Semi-Final 1... ...but something about Perpétua with "Bem Longe Daqui" has me totally chilled, and has gone on a "chill National Finals" playkist for me!! And Festival Da Canção is now one of my favorite national selections...it competes for my attention against Melodifestovalen every year!!!
