@@MichielFrackers - I think a big part of it is that Wrighty doesn’t shy away from just treating him like a normal person. All of the other pundits seem to sort of walk on eggshells around him, even when they tease him. But Wrighty just treats him like a genuine friend and like he’d treat anyone else, and it’s disarming.
It's so much better when they don't have a guest. I like their chemistry, banter, and listening to them chatting about football and their careers. We don't need to hear what a boxing promoter has to say, have a separate podcast for that. EDIT: Also, Animals is a top quality album, OP.

Overlap has become my favorite football show recently. I don’t agree with them all the time, but I appreciate their honesty, their authenticity and being real. These days, to promote a league you beed to have these shows beside the football matches. Great show. Well done.
Nah not really. England fans fell out of love with the team from 2008-2014. No one rated those team.England squad currently is world class in places, Rice+Bellingham midfield is exceptional, Kane is one of best strikers in europe. Lots of pace around the team. England is a top 4 team in the world right now but you need luck too to win big tournaments.
@@2011hwalker I wrote since 2002 , you can't pick and choose your years. The fan bandwagon still thumped the chest for England at South Africa WC. Nothing changes. You don't fall out of love for your nation, makes you a plastic fan.
I'm laid here with a jaw infection waiting for an operation in so much pain and seeing the overlap flash up on my phone has brought a smile to my face ☺️
The problem with Ireland is.. if you are a good at sports growing up in Ireland you are more than likely going to end up playing Gaelic football, Hurling or Rugby. My village didn't even have a soccer team and if we went to neighbouring towns to join their soccer teams we were looked down upon if we played a soccer match instead of a GAA match on the weekends. Just take David Clifford from Kerry as an example. One of the most skillful Gaelic footballers the country has ever seen and an unreal athlete. Imagine if the likes of him played soccer instead of football growing up. Kerry only got their own soccer team this year. That tells you everything
That’s the same problem America has they have the worlds best athletes imagine they played soccer instead of American football or basketball. It would be no competition. The size of those lads and sheer athleticism is just insane
@@cba.literallycant. Thats nonsense. Football is different than other sports, technique and tactical awareness matters more than just being and athlete running around like headless chicken. Thats why in contact and main stream sports, football is the only sports that you find players 1.65 to 1.70 m that are not athletic with no pace and be legendary. Eg: Pirlo, Iniesta, Messi, Maradona etc Being a genetic freak in terms of athleticism doesnt make you a better footballer, matter of fact could be hindrance.
@@FamousMovieScenes09 I don’t disagree, but football isn’t played on paper, that’s all Roy is saying. I don’t think they have the keeper or centre backs to win a tournament. Thankfully 😝
Remember how good the memories of watching Wales in major international tournaments were? You will never experience that again in your lifetime. Chin up x
I am English and think exactly that. Our syle of play is tedious and horrible to watch. We've got two decent players in kane and Bellingham which will not be enough with the idiotic style of play Southgate chooses to play.
Portugal is criminally underrated. Bernardo, Joao cancelo(Barca I know)and Ruben Dias have arguably been city’s best players in the last 3 years. Joao Felix is one of the best wingers in Spain right now, Rafael Leao is the best player in Italy, Jota is legit at Liverpool, Vitinha is the best center mid in France, Nuno mendes and Raphael Gurierro are class left backs, Antonio Silva(Benfica) is wanted by all the best teams in the world at center half, Bruno Fernandes is a world class midfielder etc. they finally have an offensive minded coach in Roberto Martinez and they’re firing on all cylinders. Portugal can beat anyone no doubt.
You've overlooked two negating factors. The manager is absolute dogshit and cannot coach defenders. Secondly, the coach is too spineless to drop Ronaldo. If he starts, which he most likely will, Portugal won't be doing any damage.
Joao Felix is not. You're on crack if you think he's good.nnn Leao is one of the best, not the best. Vininha is not the best centre mid in France, and Jota is OK, but not good enough. Whole lot of waffle there tbh.
Great content. Shocked none of them had Maddison as the 3rd midfielder with Rice & Bellingham.. plays in tight areas, takes the ball under pressure, technically equal (or better than) most players that the big sides possess.
Remember EURO 2000 when Romania knocked out England after England was winning at half time, 2-1 and Gary's brother Phil conceded a penalty towards the end of the game for the 3-2 winning goal? That was the best moment in an Euro tournament for us, romanian fans. Hope we met again, although this time the diffrence is really big in favour of England.
Personally think it should be Foden on the left, Bellingham at 10, Saka on the right then Trent and Rice behind them. A lot of quality in our squad this tournament that's for certain
@roykeane1922 another option, think based off Bellingham this season he is much better higher up the pitch, which is why that's what I'd personally go with. Again though, Maddison just shows the depth we have as a team
Been saying this 58 years. England have never been to a final when played abroad. What makes these pundits think it’ll be any different next summer in Germany?
To answer Neville's question on Ireland, the FAI's former CEO John Delaney drove Irish football into the ground with years of greed, excess and corruption. Academies, coaching and overall youth development is miles behind most other countries.
Euro memory must be that pen by Psycho v Spain in 96. The emotion that he showed after the miss v Germany in 1990 just flooded out of him. Balls of steel.
Great episode gents. Love the show. Only constructive criticism would be...Please do an episode on Scotland, we are there too. Understand that 90% of the audience are English, but we never qualify and would appreciate the same level of build up 😊 Not just "can Scotland make it out of the group"
They spent more time talking about Saliba, Courtois playing for England than they did Scotland! Good watch but honestly, come on. We can surprise a few teams I’m sure.
You can't possibly doing the same thing for almost 6 years and expect to walk over everybody. If the England manager does nothing but copying the Premier Leagues managers, instead of coming up with something on his own, England will have a chance to win anything major. Even if they win, it'll look deflated. My 2 cents: 3-1-4-1-1 3: Right: Reece James (Kieran Trippier) - Center: Jamaal Lascelles (Ben White) - Left: Ben Chillwell (Lewis Hall) 1: Declan Rice (Kalvin Phillips, Sean Longstaff) 4: Right to Left: Kyle Walker (Lewis Miley, Bukayo Saka) - Trent Alexander-Arnold (John Stones) - Jack Harrison (Carney Chukwuemeka) - Phil Foden (Anthony Gordon, Raheem Sterling) 1: Jude Bellingham (Rico Lewis, Harvey Barnes) 1: Harry Kane (Olie Watkins, Cole Palmers)
I think the midfield 3 of Rice, Trent and Bellingham is the perfect mix. Rice could hold and also drive forward when he gets the chance, like he does for Arsenal, Trent is the best passer in football and gives you unbelievable set piece delivery (and a few goals) and Bellingham is a monster at 10 or in the free role. As long as Rice and Trent could develop the understanding that 1 of them always has to sit in front of the back 4 in any given situation, then for me that is the perfect midfield balance
@@nas84payne I agree but I don't think he needs to be brilliant defensively in that role, Rice will provide the cover in the holding role and I imagine Trent being the ball player in there with Bellingham providing the main attacking threat. Plus, Bellingham's such a machine that he'll get back and help out if needed. I just think Trent is too good on the ball in terms of passing and creating chances, and providing unbelievable quality on set pieces, not to be in the first 11
The usual from them. I see England have won it already, again. Their arrogance based on nothing is quite funny. We'll concentrate on Scotland and the opening game against Germany.
Maddison isn't mentioned, and neither is Tomori, despite his excellent performance for AC Milan. It appears he might need to reconsider his allegiance from England to Italy since he won't be able to get into the team.
He can't switch allegiances now, he's played too many qualifying games for England now. He's in the squad now and will no doubt make it for the euros if he continues playing well, as the show said, we're short on CBs so it's possible he could even start at the tournament
Gary is spot on. If you guys don't start Foden and make him one of the main focal points then Southgate doesn't have a clue. He is vital to the success of the team.
This is without a doubt my favourite football show - Roy and Wrighty's bromance, Gary's deference and professionalism, Jamie's scouse annoyingness and experience, Roy's derision and dry humour, and Ian's vulnerability and humanity......it just has everything.
I love the analysis and optimism, but I can't see England winning anything under Southgate. In the 2020 Euros and last WC, they were by far the most boring team to watch, almost a struggle to watch. With arguably one of the best teams, I don't know why Southgate doesn't let the players play the way they do in the premier league: fast-paced, physical, and attacking football. Instead, we get this dull, cyclical, defensive, and 'safe' style of play. It's infuriating to see with the caliber of players at his disposal. Get the right manager at the helm and I think England would have a chance, and at the very least, entertain!
Agree with Jamie here . A 16 team Euros was the best format, the best of the region fighting tooth and nail in every game ! However , with this format, even the tough groups aren't so bad as the 3rd placed team will probably get through as well .
If england put out the right midfield, they can win it. I hate to admit that, but they could. Actually if they put out their most in form players instead of gareths mates! For example, something like this: Pope Walker Stones Tomori Trippier Trent Rice Bellingham Saka Gordon Kane Remember, I said most in form. On form, Anthony Gordon is ahead of Rashford and Sterling. He's direct, scores goals and causes endless problems. Palmer is actually in with a shout as well. He's been Chelsea's best player in recent months imo. Foden can always produce special moments too, anywhere across midfield and attack.
Make no mistake; England have to win the tournament! We have everything in our favour this time, no excuses no saying 'oh well lads we tried' time to go and win.
Your right. We do have everything in our favour BUT….i dnt think our central defenders are as strong as i would like and we need a massive amount of luck which is something England never get…..so its likely to end in tears again! With Kane and Bellingham we have a chance.
Mad to question Pickford, glad Neville stuck up for him. He's never let England down and has been superb for Everton for a long time now. Player of the season past two seasons. Hes and excellent keeper
"He's done nothing wrong", "He's never let Gareth down" ... This is one of the major issues with England squad selections and the commentary surrounding it. We can all probably do many roles competently but it doesn't mean we're the best people for the role! And on Pickford... the very fact that England have had no one to take the place of a keeper of his stature is so alarming.
Makes me laugh how they mention every goalkeeper goin, including Dean Henderson but fail to mention big Sam Johnstone who's stopping Dean Henderson from even getting a game. The amount of games he's kept Palace in or helped to win is unreal
This is why I Love Football...England has a good team on paper with good coach. Portugal has the best team on paper with a below average coach and Croatia, yes Croatia has the most experience leading into this tournament, best midfield and defence and if you cant believe that...compare the last 3 major tournaments between Croatia and England. CROATIA will lift the trophy this year. I do enjoy the enthusiasm when it comes to your team and what a great panel, one thing everyone can agree to is that we love this game, cheers boys
as an irish man Pickford trippier (walker against france or portugal) stones tomori shaw Rice phillips ( if you have balls you play kobbie mainoo) bellingham saka kane foden (rashford if he remembers how to play football)
Phillips is shyte bro, come on, what value does Philip bring? Furthermore, playing philip and Rice? that is the flattest midfield in history. Gordon - Kane - Sterling/Saka Foden - Rice - Bellingham Shaw - Stones - McGuire(I know, but) - Trippier(for forward runs)
If Southgate was a decent Manager an played Stones & Colwill CB. With Guehi, Dunk, Tomori, White even Konsa. Our defensive situation wouldn’t be an issue. It’s an issue because he won’t drop Maguire. Same with Kalvin Phillips and a few others.
Finals, semi finals and no trophies with those players? Almost unforgivable. If these lads were spanish, Italian, German, French, they would definitely have won something.
This does not change the fact that there are 21 million penguins in Antarctica, and in Malta there are 502,653 inhabitants. So, if the penguins decide to invade Malta, each Maltese will have to fight 42 penguins!
The Euros final against Italy was the one I think we definitely should’ve won. With the players we have and tournament experience, we have to be looking at winning the Euros next year. And there’s no other teams that really stand out, unlike tournaments in the past.
Proper embarrassing how little these so called top pundits know about Scotland. In summary… 1. Steve Clarke is the name of our manager. 2. We’re playing Germany in the first game. 3. Wrighty says we ‘might’ get out the group. Barely 60 seconds on the only other British team to qualify for the tournament, lumped in as an afterthought. Nothing about the fact we beat Spain? Analysis on any players? The fact that Anthony Gordon is heavily linked with declaring for Scotland? They’d rather chat about ‘what if Courtois play for England’ 😂😂
The homegrown player rule seems to have helped England and probably hurt Ireland. I'm Irish but you have to credit the FA(for once) for looking after their own patch pretty well as it turned out.
What are you expecting pal, seriously? I’m Scottish and no more than you, through and through but let’s not forget , its 3 English pundits and an Irishman..we turn this into a Scottish podcast? Sober up
If it was a Scottish podcast focusing on the Scotland with 3 Scottish blokes and 1 Welshman would you want them talking about England for a long period of time? Exactly
For a player to add to their squad, I think Wright's shout of Saliba is spot on. I also think putting a Kimmich next to Rice and sit behind Bellingham would make that midfield impenetrable.
bro you SIR understand football. Kimmich is elite, and would solidify that midifield, spraying passes, chasing down players. Lovely. Infact, someone like Xabi Alonso, Fabregas, Xavi would totally change england into an Elite football team. a machine in the middle
It's a daft question. Why waste any time trying to select a player when he can't ever play for England. It's about as valid a question as asking would you rather play this tournament in Germany or on the moon
@arturius7534 he mentioned that Norway used to qualify for lots of tournaments in the past which is not true. As for now you have 3 good players Nusa, Odegaard & Haaland.
Trent and Maddison would be that 3rd man along Rice and Bellingham depending on what the team needs at the time. Shame about Maddison's injury as he'd be starting for me.
Maddison not fit to even pick up Trent's laces from the shop, let alone actually lace his boots. TAA all day. Won everything at RB and now embarrassing lifelong CMs regularly whilst playing as a midfielder.
@@mattvanemden7573 Chill out champ, you're sounding a bit delusional there. Top player but he's embarrassing nobody. Maddison would be the best 10 England have if he's fully fit and the reason I included them both is they'd play entirely different roles anyway, trent wouldn't even work as a 10.
@@mattvanemden7573 and the rose tinted deluded look what trents won arse hat has arrived...ur hero has played one or 2 in midfield and ur getting carried away as always....the lad just spams passes doesn't run refuses to defend and Maddison is better at 10
@@mattvanemden7573this is embarrassing. Liverpool fan here, it would be a high day in hell before I’m starting Trent in midfield at the euros over a fit James Maddison. Absolute insanity.
Southgate is the reason as a non English fan that Im not overly worried about England winning the Euros. Hes got WORLD class talent like Trent and Foden but he is tactcially inept to be able to fit them into a conventional system
you do you support? be brave unlike your Southgate comment. i.e its easy not to worry about england winning anything having not won F all for 60 yrs wow big predictions going on in ur dome
