My gosh, this was a rollercoaster! That finale of a tournament was so fun to watch. Beef! What you have created is incredible!! Can't wait to see Season 2! \o/ (Honestly, if I have more time on my hands, I might try animating the matches. Cannot confirm as I have very little time.)
I was half expecting Zed to randomly show up in the line at the end, completely silent. That would have been so hilarious. Awesome championship! Cannot wait for more battles!
I've only seen this perspective so far, but seems like there was no mention of anyone spying, so we can safely assume zed succeeded, or zed wasn't there at all lmao
I actually made popcorn to watch this TCG final, such an awesome match! All the hermits supporting Xb or Etho, and the trashtalk was so fun! It's amazing to see all your hard work bringing so much joy. I'm so exited for my irl TCG cards to arrive!!
This was an amazing Tournament Finale match! I have to agree with Doc, that was such a good speech! I loved that you did a little summary of the "journey" xB & Etho took to get to this point with a healthy dose of your own salt at being defeated haha
For the exceptions I would just make a blanket “apply damage affects before defending affects” or the other way around. It would cover the Golden Axe but not the wolf in that instance because axe ignores armor.
Agreed - you don't want to list exceptions on cards because you will have to constantly change it as you add new cards - doing it by global rule means less errata and also makes it easier to design cards that fit the rule.
the Wolf is an attach card, not an effect card. Chain Mail says it ignores effect cards, so should be useless against the Wolf. Unless attach cards are a sub-class of effect cards? And the axe should definitely ignore the chain mail, because honestly golden axe is already a weak card imo. I agree with making a global rule though, less errata needed that way.
This is easily my new favorite event episode of this season. Such a great close game played by both opponents and having so many hermits in attendance for it really made the event so special. Thank you Beef and congrats on all the success your hardwork has brought you this season!❤❤❤
That was an amazing tournament finale! Love love the live audience haha and the reaction to the new cards! Beef is so amazing to have made something so beloved by the whole server and everybody watching 😊
That speech was amazing, this tournament has been so fun to watch, and the cherry on top, is when everyone got a TCG pack at the end, with everyone talking at once and celebrating. Just like many years ago, when Pokemon TCG was major.
Beef, @38:15 you miscalculated the hit by xB on Scar. He should have lost an additional 20 health, which means that @42:20 Scar would have been knocked out. So Stress's YOLO @44:00 would have resulted in a tie for the game rather than a win for Etho. That math error changed the entire result of the tournament...
Hermitcraft season 9 has been my favorite season so far and it's in large part due to TCG. This is the only season where I think I've watched everybody's perspective and the other hermits have really pulled their A-game this season but you got every body hooked on this game, even the fans can play it now!
The excitement from the hermits getting those new packs made me so happy! Reminiscent of my childhood of getting Pokémon and yugioh card packs! Congrats to Etho!!! This episode was so good, Beef!
That was an epic nail-biter of a match! I'm so happy it went that way and not the bad draw, out in one route. Loved the super animated crowd and all the smack talk, too. Definitely made it much more exciting. Huge congrats to big K as the winner and to you, Beef, for creating such an awesome game that brought all the Hermits together!!
It's always so fun to watch all the Hermits getting together to hang out and have fun with each other. Such a great group of people♥ Those trophies turned out amazing and I can't wait to see how people start adding these new cards into their decks for next season of TCG :D Great vid, Beefy!
Congrats on the amazing game, the amazing tournament, the amazing real life cards, and the amazing collaborations that you solely facilitated for all of the hermits over the past few months Beef!
I know this season isn't nearly done yet, but with the custom plugins, I really hope the TCG cards can be added as custom items in hermitcraft season 10 (and beyond!)
No matter what option you decide for axe vs chainmail, you should add that rule to both cards (like "ignores all effect cards including chainmail" and "prevents damage from all effect cards except golden axe"
I laughed so hard as I remembered Zed still has his on going "spy on every hermit" zedvancement 😂 I mean doing it while everyone is distracted watching the TCG championship makes sense, I had just forgotten about it 😂
Congrats Beef, on everything you've accomplished here... it's so exciting to see the server enjoying what you've made for everyone, and just as exciting to let the fans of the server enjoy it as well! I ordered my cards on day 1, can't wait to get them!
That game was so entertaining. I’ve been watching you and Etho since mindcrack and it seems like you both never stopped improving. Edge of my seat for real
Beef, the journey leading to this moment has been so special. TCG is easily the best event that Hermitcraft has ever had. I've never seen the server and community be brought together so thoroughly by a single project, and that's all because of your dedication, creativity, and kindness. Well done, and we can't wait for TCG Season 2!!!
This episode was so HYPE! Thanks for putting so much into that tournament with all your planning and collaboration. I'm so happy about the outcome of that match! -Spoiler- Looks like he's not as washed up as everyone's saying he is! 😅 I love the banter!
THAT WAS AMAZING!!! I loved the rowdy crowd, the intro speech and judging, and that match was soo close! The key point in the match was when Etho's Scar was at 20 hp and xB didnt pull any of his damage cards! Could've gone either way :O
Etho won Decked Out 1, the TCG tournament and at least one round of Total Chaos. It’s testament to the number of bloody minigames hermitcraft has (the Head Games, minigame contests, Tag etc.) that he’s not even in the lead
This game is amazing beef! The time and effort you’ve put into it is incredible. Although at 38:11 there is a counting error I believe instead of 40 hp damage you only dealt 20 which in turn leaves scar with 20 hp before Etho uses efficiency. Wonder how it would have played out otherwise😮
I think you should have text in the chain armor that says "trumps any conflicting card" or something like that, so is a general rule that chainmail beats any card that may get into conflict
seeing everyone so yped abou thte new ccards is just lik when they first released and everyone was constly in and out of the shop, trading and chatting and just haivng a good time well done beef, well done
Getting almost sentimental over people geeking out about their new cards! You've created something truly special! Congrats to the winner too, I was rooting for him! 🎉🎉🎉
Seeing how excited everyone was to get and trade those new cards made it clear how successful and loved this game was amongst the Hermits. Fantastic work, Beef.
why did no one talk about the fact that xb used an attack on scar for 80 which became 40 dmg but beef only reduced 20 which would have killed scar later on and etho couldn't have yolo'ed unless he wanted to draw
Ooh... I'm so excited about the collector's edition. Who will it be?!?!? Also, this is truly amazing Beef. So happy to be part of the HC audience. I've ordered my packs and am excited to get the physical cards and play!
Mr. VintageBeef: if you're soliciting more card ideas... edit: nevermind! The newly reworked Spyglass card kinda does this now. Good call revisiting that one. -Light Gray Stained Glass Pane -*-rare-*- (Effect): Force your opponent to either immediately discard the next card they draw -*-or-*- discard two cards from their hand (player's choice? coin flip?).- -Values and conditions can be fine-tuned, but you get the idea. This could be a way for players to disrupt combo decks relying on the perfect card draw. Lore-wise, it's a small nod to Etho's Shade E E's shop. The flavor fits: when you have a full inventory of free glass, you can't pick anything else up unless you drop something else first.-
11:14 Yeah, go with _"...prevents damage from all effect cards except Golden Axe."_ for sure. People always forget that the axe is supposed to ignore armor anyway because of how weirdly the ruling is on that. And y'know, it also means you wouldn't have to make an amendment to a card that's already been written haha.
Absolutely killer episode! I was sitting here trying to think of other possible expansion ideas, and I know Empires has been tossed around due to the crossover, but I was thinking, what about a Life Series expansion? That could be fun! Could also add more mobs too like Creeper, Skeleton (which could be that if there are skeletons directly across from each other they attack one another instead of the opposing hermit/afk hermit. Just a thought though! Can't wait for more!
Placed my order for the combo pack back on the 26'th! I don't even play these type of card games, but had to have a set since it's such a unique collectable. And who knows, maybe it gets released back into the wild someday, to bolster someone else's collection.
instead of adding a bunch of clauses for the chainmail armor, perhaps you could create an attacker v defender clause in the general rules where one or the other has lore priority. say defender has lore priority then chainmail over rules the dog and axe or vise versa- this also allows hermits to make in house rules to change things up
Congrats to the champion: Ketho 😆 Also, Congrats to you Beef for an awesome game that is not only fun to play/watch but brought all Hermits together in a very wholesome way! Looking forward to Season 2
Everyone there immediately erupting into full nerd mode - trying for trades, the glee of getting what ya want, the disappointment of RNG screwing you over, the gears firing over what to incorporate into decks is such a highlight of this season. Ahhhh, that was cathartic. Beef, I pray you're as proud of this as you should be, this whole project has been absolutely monumental and you've done nothing less than a stellar job as a game creator.
I think ignoring all affect cards, especially for a common card is extremely strong, so there’s a few things could be done 1. Add the clauses and leave it as that 2. Add the coin clip mechanic whenever chain mail is attacked 3. Turn chain mail into a rare card and make it so that it prevents damage from all effect cards
SUGGESTED RULE CHANGE FOR S2: The current rules on rares and ultra rares are good for balancing but a little restrictive in deck building. I think a rarity score cap would be equally as good for balancing, uet better for deck building. You assign values Common = 0 Rare = 1 Ultra rare = 2 (Adjust if needed) And assign a cap 25 or so. This way hermits who've found more ultra rares can use them, but they do so at the cost of having more commons in their deck to balance it.
@@martapowaka5804 yeah but there's no conflict there. You still have 42 cards, you just can't exceed the rarity score cap. But commons are worth 0 so if just means if you filled your whole rarity cap with ultra rares, you'd balance that by having more Commons. But it still works out without issues with the overall card limit.
In regards to the chainmail Beef, I believe the chainmail should resist the axe. You made the chainmail post-axe as a counter to damage effect cards, which include the axe. Seeing as the chainmail appears to be the card that has a more fringe use-case, it would be better to let it be as useful as possible, so maybe people will include it more. Axe already is strong enough to maybe become playable if people keep playing diamond and netherite armour, chainmail would be neat to see as a switch up to that.
Ideal for the next tcg event! wildcard tournament: -sign up only -hermits can play under ANY house rules -they must still play a card game with the tcg cards, and the win condition must involve cards defeating other cards -hermits may team up, and will move up in the bracket as a pair, but there can only be ONE winner -maybe the prize is a jester themed trophy that is also a hat. maybe also a jester themed custom card for the hermit
The speech and statistics breakdown was phenomenal, had me grinning from ear to ear rubbing my hands together out of pure excitement. Love you Beef! Gg Hermts!
This was so awesome!! The heckling was so great 😂 and the excitement at new packs was just the most heartwarming thing. One of my favourite Hermitcraft vids ever for sure. Congratulations Beef on such an amazing TCG Season 1 🎉
dude, the updated spyglass is op as hell, I feel like it should be an ultra rare. Being able to delete a card from the opponent's hand (even if it is a coin flip) feels like it rivals the clock almost in how op it is
I don't think you should make a specific exception for golden axe, I think you should make a general rule along the lines that "when cards are in conflict, the attacking card takes precedence" (or give precedence to defending card but generally it's better to favor attack with mechanics) The reason for this is that you don't want to get into the weeds of making special exceptions for every possible conflict
Yay! What a successful TCG Tournament! That was a Super Close Game! Dang it XB didn't win! LOL I was cheering him on. I have to say it was close just like Impulse's and Doc's game. The trophies looked Awesome! I loved the Peanut Gallery! The audience was so funny and "annoying" it was great trying to catch all the jokes. LOL It's so weird that the Finals were against the Hermits who played the first test match! That was forshadow-y and cool! It was fun to see all the Hermits swarm the new decks like Kids at Christmas... "I got a Helsknight, I got a RenBob! I got a Beetle Jhost!" Can I say I'm happy Joe's first alter ego card was his Beetle Jhost! That was so worth it! So Fun Beef. I hope we get to see another tournament before the season is done. Thank you Beef!
So a couple of health calculation mistakes were made, one that I believe would have made a difference - because Scar survived with 20 health. The first time Scar was hit around 38:19 the damage was 40 (80 minus armor) but he goes from 260 to 240 instead of 220, which ends up being the exact amount he needed to survive. Etho might have played it differently knowing that he was lower, but as it played out, it did make a big difference.
I noticed it too - match should have ended up a tie at best for Etho. I don't think he has a great way to win from there with Scar knocked out. Sad that it was decided by judging errors, especially with every judge watching on.
@@levi8971 Yes it would. It would ended in a tie for Etho which is the best he could have done. If he didn't use the Stress efficiency combo immediately, he would have been knocked out quickly by xB's fully power and full health WelsKnight. Beef is aware of the issue, btw.
“When scar got knocked down to 80 (actually 60), instead of taking out xb, etho would've swapped to his stress to avoid losing scar since he actually had 60 hp and not 80. He would've tanked a hit with stress the next turn, and then the following turn he would've used his chest to grab the golden apple to heal his scar to 160 the following turn. He also draws his efficiency book on that turn, so depending on whether xb has switched hermits or not will determine who etho kills with stress, giving him the lead of 2 to 1.”
For the wolf: "Ignores Armor" could be read as (or maybe rewritten as) "Ignores armor damage reduction and armor effects." If it ignores the armor effects, then it ignores chainmail's effect. For the chainmail, you could add "except axe and wolf" for clarification, or you could make it so that it ignores effect damage from common or uncommon cards, but not from rare?
