And it should be a war crime (but isn't, currently) to make an area uninhabitable, especially if the population can't leave. Hamas has already said they would give up the hostages in exchange for a permanent cease fire but Israel refuses, saying they won't stop until they have completely removed hamas. So no, giving up the hostages won't stop this. The IDF doesn't care about the hostages, they just want to conquer the entirety of Palestine to have all of the land they believe god has given to them. They have shown they have access to phone conversations of hamas members and more, yet you really think they didn't see the attack coming? Afterwards, with America in the lead, it was decided to have a different strategy towards war. Treat citizens well so they won’t be your future enemy, treat prisoners well so that your soldiers will be treated well when captured in return. Value innocent life. Things like that. I don’t know when we lost those values. Maybe it comes with history being forgotten as it clearly has been. Also, I’m not saying America is perfect but at that time in history we were leading the way with being kind to prisoners and civilians. My German family can attest to that, many would surrender to Americans the first chance they got because they knew they would be treated well and taken out of a war they weren’t on board with in the first place. They were less comfortable surrendering to Russia or the UK because they heard some horror stories. What a great strategy! You’re even winning over soldiers. Would this not be a great strategy for Israel to have? They would have locations of Hamas HQ in Gaza by now if that was the case.
