I was surprised but have also learned after 4 years of being a fan that being surprised is the norm. The members and the group together are always putting out new and different sounds. This song (which Jimin WAS singing live) was born out of working with PDogg, Ghstloop and Evan on his solo FACE album. They referred to themselves as the Smeraldo Garden Marching Band in the album documentary, so the vibes I got were that they were having fun and messing around with sounds and styles and ended up with this quirky song with a title that would be pretty ambiguous and weird for anyone who isn't ARMY. It's like a fun, happy, summery, campy, inside joke. I think the rest of the album will be very different. But, as a pre-release, and something to make fans smile and get people intrigued about what's to come, I think it works well! To understand the smeraldo flower and garden reference, you'll have to dive deeper into BU lore and lyrics and images from the Love Yourself series.

it's creepy if you are not used to listening to fun songs. this is so refreshing to see an artist of his level bringing back such fun songs that you can just vibe too. also the whole mv is basically a fairytale and jimin is a fairy sprinkling dust of happiness everywhere. also it's homage to the beatles and music from that time, also the choreo is using sign langauge it's very happy vibes all around .

Jimin and his close group of producers were working on FACE and got inspired a lot by The Beatles album Sgt. Beatles St Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band is the inspiration/muse for this vibe. He was doing a Vogue shoot in New York and saw the album in a music shop he went to. He uses sign language to spell out I love you. The butterfly is from Set Me Free pt 2. He also uses the Bangtan Bulletproof hand gesture in the beginning. Smeraldo is the imaginary flower from the BU meaning the truth untold. 🎉💜🌻

You don't have to like the song. It's for ARMY and, only true ARMY gets the song. #Jimin is a very intelligent and experimental yet intentional as an artist. BTS are voracious readers, especially RM and Jimin, so they got a lot reference from their readings and this is why BTS never runs out of genre and melodies. Had you listened to his Face, there are songs in that album that are very experimental. While Jimin is a very eloquent artist, he expresses his complex thoughts in a very vivid straightforward poetry. I think it goes with his background and love for contemporary dance where emotions and message are to be expressed with clarity with flawless movement.. Jimin is anl very adorable and sweet human being in person but, as an artist, he is a beast so that he knows that he can effortlessly give you that creepy feeling should he intends it and he does not mind whether you like his song or not. What is important is he has made his message get across to the ARMY across the globe. Esmarldo Garden is inspired from an Italian sad fairy tale about a guy who thinks himself as very ugly so he isolated himself in a barely inhabited village where he created a flower garden to bring him joy until one day he discovered that someone has been stealing his flowers. After his investigation, he learned that it's a very pretty girl from a poor family and would sell the flowers for a day's meal. Esmeraldo fell at first sight with the girl and experimented a flower so he could bring it as a gift to the girl once he started courting her. Unfortunately, just before the flower could bloom to its peak he found out that the girl passed away. So that flower was called Esmeraldo Flower. Obviously, the tale may have been one of Jimin's Muses (inspiration) in producing music and writing lyrics. Note that Jimin's Album MUSE is not about pretty things. MUSE is all about what inspired Jimin in composing, producing and writing music. Note further that this Smeraldob Garden Marching Band is a composition, not produced from computer generated tunes. And, this why Jimin and Loco sung live in this MV track. Again, Jimin is a beast in creating music. His music may sound simple but it is not that simple. So please, Respect the process. BTS made reference to the tale in their song "Untold Truth". In this song, Jimin apparently departed from the depressing message of the tale and instead made a happy song by creating the Esmeraldo Garden Marching Band for purpose. I can't believe u guys haven't watched Jimin's Set Me Free Pt.2, Like Crazy, Filter, Serendipity, Lie yet when he's already about to release his 2nd album. 😔 Only when you've watched those mv and performances will you understand how diverse his discography is. The lyrics of the song are important, but also recognizing and understanding all the symbolism in this music video taken from past BTS music in particular the Truth Untold (Smeraldo flower and unable to confess love). This album was made while he also created FACE in 2022/2023. That album was about what he went through during the pandemic and other issues he dealt with. This song is talking about coming out on the other side of that dark period in his life in a lighter and happier mindset. He is talking about love, loving himself, ARMY and possibly a relationship. The campy aspect is from inspiration of the Beatles and Sgt. Pepper & Lonely Hearts club. He introduced their album during his VOGUE interview when in NYC to perform Like Crazy. He also mentioned PDogg and the other two producers were part of the Smeraldo Garden Marching Band during his documentary back in October. There is so much more to this song than the surface comments. This album is tied to FACE and is basically a continuation of the next phase in his life. He did all this in a happy, light and fun song that actually gets stuck in your head the more you listen to it. Yes, it is a departure from his normal style, but Jimin plays chess while we play checkers when it comes to his music. It's fine that's it's not your vibe. When I first listened to it, I didn't know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it. Halfway through the 2nd listen, I wanted to listen to it a 3rd time. Normally find the general smugness of your reactions entertaining (always picking on my fellow Army!) but in making up your minds after barely listening for < 10 seconds, you missed a lot: - This song especially reflects Jimin’s ability to masterfully combine interesting instrumentation w/ Hip Hop, Ballad style vocals, and Rap, all wrapped by super catchy hooks and melodies. His lyrics are deceptively simple but have 2-3 underlying meanings - have to listen to his music w/ both ears and brains. I.e. - “SGMB reveals a story about the world where all the hidden feelings of the listener are accepted and embraced. Smeraldo flowers signify “the truth that one couldn’t say out loud.” Song urges listeners to embrace their truth because in ‘Smeraldo Garden,’ the marching band embraces everyone’s authenticity and feelings.” (Also ties into BTS’s song “The Truth Untold”.) - Some reactors have acted like this is just some goofy summer song, disappointed he didn’t do something like Set Me Free Pt. 2.
