They're lying by calling this an "EMP" shield. This item is a surge protector. EMP, however, blankets everything. The pulse doesn't enter your house via the breaker box. I could imagine that the EMP Shield itself might survive the EMP, but it can't protect your computer from one. Only a faraday cage solves this problem.

Eh, the power lines are the biggest antennae attached to a house, although I understand your point. There could be a point made that most full size computer cases are 95% steel sheetmetal, although a counter-point could be that "what's the point" (if the internet goes down anyways).

We had something similar on the panel of our previous house. I was not sure about it until a big storm rolled through and there was a lighting strike that blew out a lot of our neighbors stuff. That little box saved us a small fortune, at least to us, in electronics. The box was sacrificial in nature and was rendered DOA after the event. It did its job and were were happy it did.

I think this would work OK for surges coming into the house on the power line. But an EMP pulse could also come from an air burst weapon. In this case it will come in via a TV cable or antenna connection which is after the protector on the power line. It may even come in directly to a units wiring or circuit board traces. Like a tv or appliance with digital controls.

(EMP) is an effect where radiation emitted after a nuclear blast destroys the silicon junctions in semi conductors. (Micro-chips, processors, transistors, etc.). This is a direct influence effect, it does not come as a transient through cables or conductors, so the only way to prevent damage is direct shielding of the components.
@carolynhelmic1474
@carolynhelmic1474 3 месяца назад
@@user-ie2kj3gy4d That’s exactly what the EMP Shield does. It is hooked to vehicle batteries and the other is an EMP shield for your electric wiring and is attached to your electric box. The EMP Shields never shut off. The vehicle shield is hooked to your car battery and when you raise you hood on your vehicle your shield has a small green light on the shield on that is always on to let you know your vehicle is protected 24/7. You will still lose your home electric power from an EMP attack on our power grids just like the people that don’t have the shield. But when the power comes back on your house wiring was protected and not "fried" and so was your appliances that were plugged into outlets. Do your own research on the EMP Shield. They explain it very well.

Finally someone that understands how an EMP works. There are so many people saying this will protect from an EMP no matter what. If you read EMP Shields papers on their testing and approvals it says that the device is tested on a hardened structure (Basically a faraday cage enclosed building). This means just like you said its only protecting what comes in on the utility line. It does not protect from the EMP wave, so if you are outside that wave then you are probably ok but inside the wave it won't help.

The only way I can think making a house completely EMP protection I here you need a metal faraday cage. And main service probably need to be in Ridge Metal pipe. What if wires would need to be in MC or EMT pipe because we shielded Low voltage in commercial in a EMT pipe. A lot low voltage wire that shielded has a tinfoil wrap around wires underneath the insulation. So we ground to water main and put in 2 ground rods. And if a concrete slab has a rebar we hit that run a ground wire for the gas company so that can clamp there gas line. But old house don’t have all that the old ground wire only hit the water main. And If PVC water main come in there be no ground for that no need to ground plastic. So I say to try to make a faraday cage in you house make all your wires surround by metal so running wire through pipe and MC and make boxes Metal you surrounded all your wires with metal. The only way I can think it can happen. Romex had a ground but surrounded by plastic and air. I can’t say it will work but they say you need in metal cage to protect the electronic so i think if all wires are run in metal conduit or Metal Clad they be surrounded by metal . When plug thing into a metal box that has a cord put your cell phone in box receptacle inside to charging your electronic close metal box cover so the hole system like hospital ground with a second insulated ground

Save yourself a load of cash and buy lightening/surge protection for $50 bucks instead of $360. That's what arrestors do, they shunt surges to ground and the arrestor is blown to bits instead of your equipment. EMP protection? Nuclear blasts happening overhead? Sheesh.... Worse things to think about than electrical circuits. Solar flares? The last significant blast in 1859 charged up the giant earth capacitor that kept the telegraph lines running for hours without their battery power connected. Show me a device that can deal with that and I'm onboard. Otherwise, nahhhh not so much.

Dragging a chain under your rig makes you a fire hazard. DOT warns against just letting your trailer chains drag for that reason. The last thing we need in brush and forest fire country is, sparks flying off of a chain be dragged down the road at 60 MPH. AND, some say the dragging chain builds up a charge on the vehicle.

I want this device as an EMP/CME protector not a regular surge protector. I am interested in getting a few of these for our vehicles because the shit is getting more wild in the world right now and the chances of a World War are very high. With that war coming the chances of EMP/CME are very very high and I want to be able to rip up further North in British Columbia if and when it does go down. Some people might say that when it does happen we are all done but it all depends where you live and how prepared you are (some of us might survive it all or survive a bit longer.) I have read up information on forums and people are saying that this device is a scam. Majority of the people who buy this device in the States and Canada are wanting it for an actual EMP/CME scenario and not a regular surge protector or lighting protection, especially the fact that the device is named EMP Shield. Thanks for video!

The GREEN goes to the metal on your car; to 'dump to ground' the EMP. EXCUSE me, but the metal chassis and the NEGATIVE of the battery are the SAME THING. They are 'dumping the surge' back into the battery. The car is ISOLATED from EARTH ground by the rubber tires. Tell me how I'm wrong, so I can learn something.

Just bought the home unit - cost in Canadian dollars was $542.94 not counting install (with 20 Amp breaker included) $292.95 = total $835.89. As I had no surge protection anyway - I decided to get both types of protection. I already had an emergency generator panel installed with external hook-up for my 6500W Honda Generator to connect to - so $ 835.89 more wasn't going to make much of a difference budget wise. Thanks for the informative video - I have to use an electrician due to Condo rules - but the install looks fairly straight forward as long as home insurance is not an issue.

Thank you for your presentation, well done but you also need to add high saturation ferrite that clips around your wires coming into the panel .Usually need 3 but some panel set up needs 4. This will absorb the E1 first wave so that your protector can deal with the E2 and E3 wave. You can also do the same for your vehicle clasping a high saturation ferrite on the positive and neg battery cables along will EMP shield for vehicle. My concern is to protect from a geomagnetic storm power surge that will do a lot of damage to the wires ,panel , and electronics in the house. Without this protection on your modern vehicle , the electronics get fried and the vehicle is done. The probability of a Carrington like event geomagnetic storm is much higher than a nuclear EMP and will occur in this solar maximum cycle. Will it hit the Americas or Europe or Asia is the unknown, but we need to be prepared. the manufacturer claims that it will protect against a geomagnetic storm which is different than a nuclear EMP. When you know that there is an X 15 or more stronger flare and that the CME is going to impact the Earth , you can cover your vehicles and generator with a Faraday cloth( pricey cloth) for added protection.

He has a faraday cage in his garage and I said I need one to protect from an emp and he said yea no it won’t protect fully cause there is leakage cause of how powerful they are. I work in a technical college in Israel. Obviously we have many computers, electronics, delicate equipment and other specialized stuff for the students, profs, and researchers. The newer buildings have the grounds go through a triple CB(as if made for a 3~ circuit) although the ground is by definition one phase, I assume to make sure it only trips if there is a massive over-current event and not just a fault with one CB. This is done mostly in case lightning strikes the mountain the college sits on. Would I hook up the ground wire of the EMP gadget directly to the REAL ground(unprotected, or uninterruptable, by the triple CB tripping), thus shunting lightning or EMP around the triple CB lightning protection? Is it to be connected to the general, interruptable, ground?

It has 3 BIG honking fast acting *_metal oxide varistors_* in it, one that goes from L1 to ground, one that go from L2 to ground and one that goes across L1 to L2. *_Metal Oxide Varistors (varistors)_* are used to protect electronic devices against overvoltage surges. An MOV rated at 120 volts AC may be able to handle 170 volts or more for a short time. This is call the shunt or crowbar voltage, what happens is when the voltage is below the crowbar voltage the MOV is open when the voltage exceeds the crowbar voltage it becomes a dead short and shunts or crowbars the higher voltage directly to ground there by protecting the devices that are connected to the grid. The MOV that is across L1 to L2 has a higher crowbar voltage than the ones that go from L1 or l2 to ground. There is a little more to it but that is basically what it does. *_Metal Oxide Varistors (varistors)_* are used on the tops of just about all of the grid power poles on the grid, if you know what to look for you can see them on the poles. They are usually next to or near the BIG honking circuit breaker located on the top of the power poles. MOV have been used for this purpose for years to help protect the power grid.

I worked on electronics in the Navy designed to withstand EMP. Lots of very careful physical shielding, protection circuits and lots and lots of bonding, and that is after being wrapped in a metal ship grounded to the water. This thing is nonsense. And most of the testing is confusing, as it is about the unit itself surviving EMP, not what it protects.

So I sent some emails when you asked the other day got an answer than couldn’t find your question hers the correspondence I got just a question one of my community members asked if the emp shield was also a line filter. I didn’t think it was but didn’t want to answer without asking you If you mean, will it clean up dirty electricity, yes it will. Anything that spikes over the unit's Voltage spectrum (so 120/240, 277/480 etc.) Gets shunted. It's much smaller shunts than say lightening or an EMP. But overage is overage and the EMP Shield will handle all of it. Ok cool so does it actively do that all the time or only when it gets outside of certain parameters Anything that spikes over the unit's Voltage spectrum (so 120/240, 277/480 etc.) Gets shunted. It's much smaller shunts than say lightening or an EMP. But overage is overage and the EMP Shield will handle all of it.

I dont see how this or any item that does not cover / encase the entire computer system and entire fuse box with Faraday type protection an EMP is basically like being in a room with MRI machine the particals of electro magnetism dont just hit or strick wires its gonna hit the entire every square micro mm all parts of ypur car so its gonna pass through your car computer car fuse box ....thats gonna fry any computer board resister transistors any and every electronic PART AND PARTS. It looks like you would have to have ypur fuse box and any computer totally incased inside of a Faraday box then every wire going in and coming out emp protected so Im suspecting you need FARADAY protecrion to go hand in hand with these type of units because of the basic law of physics of the way a EMP wave form works ...I really dont see how this would protect the computer board and chips plus fuses from being directly struck by the wave forms bypassing and battery connection and any wires its still gonna strike the electrical components so no matter if you had the battery and all electrical wires unhooked the EMP signal is still gonna short out and fry components that are not completly surrounded and covered by some sort of FARADAY protection

The only problem is how are you going to have power to use your appliances if the power grid is down? Unless you live off grid. So basically you will have appliances that don't work anyway. If I could find a way to store around 30 gallons of gas I may be interested in an EMP shield for my car.
@VGLounge
@VGLounge 3 месяца назад
There could be smaller solar flares that don't end all electricity on Earth, for smaller events this will preserve your equipment for when the power is back. Or from a lightning strike. Even if you have no extra gas protecting your car is worth it. That first drive after an emp is arguably the most important, or driving after a lightning strike is more common

a house will be just as effected as a vehicle with or without the "EMP Shield" which is just a glorified surge protector, this is a post I made when some youtuber made a similar vid but with the car version by the same company. Long story short it's useless against EMP but excellent against regular surges and therefore still a good idea with cars and homes for regular "surge events" that don't need an EMP to occur. the way the company that makes that box thinks an EMP works is you can have a car with a battery hooked up like any other and just add the surge protector and that's it, sorted. But if using that logic (which is incorrect btw), then simply disconnecting the battery on a modern "bug out" vehicle and grounding the chassis / unibody will achieve the same thing. Unfortunately this is where that company's theory falls out of the bus. 1st they have never tested their product using an EMP generator in an enclosed facility so none of their products have ever passed the actual grade, it's only theoretical. 2nd the "surge effect" is present in the circuits and even chips themselves without needing a closed circuit or power source. So even with the "magic box" hooked up it will fry most chips in the vehicle. Just drape a faraday/EMP tarp over the vehicle and don't remove it for a few hours until there are no signs of further EMP strikes, you can test this by making devices that will purposely become inactive when removed from an EMP bag or garage with faraday / EMP lining fabric. Then simply just drive out the garage with a completely unmodified vehicle. If you want a vehicle that will operate during an EMP event, just stick to mechanical and carry some extra fuses. You can use these same principles with RVs, campers, homes, etc. Also most budget generators are completely mechanical

I was expecting some type of doomsday prepper video 😂 Do you even know what the abbreviation EMP means? Looks like you are describing a Power Surge unit and not EMP. You couldn't protect your house by disconnecting your house with EMP. EMP is more in the street of a solar flare hitting earth hard or a nuclear bomb, a tiny more localised nuke or even a specialised EMP bomb without any nuclear detonation

@joekickass9233 but that's not how it works (EMP) is an effect where radiation emitted after a nuclear blast destroys the silicon junctions in semi conductors. (Micro-chips, processors, transistors, etc.). This is a direct influence effect, it does not come as a transient through cables or conductors, so the only way to prevent damage is direct shielding of the components.

This seems like a marketing gimmick to claim the surge protector will provide protection from an EMP. Whole house surge protectors are required on all new homes in the US by National Electrical Code since 2020. By claiming it provides protection from an EMP they could be just trying to get people to buy their product vs any other of the whole house surge protectors on the market. I mean how many times in our lifetime have we ever experienced an EMP attack. And how could this product even have been tested for an EMP?

Okay this is what my electrician told me about Power Surge protection. Hence a lightning strike. You could have your electrical company mount a coarse protection away from your house a little. Then have a medium protection in your own fuse box, then have a finer protection at let say your precious gear like a 5 thousand dollars computer you want to protect. It works in this way: The strike has a wave behaviour to it. So even if you dampen it at one spot early it will strengthen again after the dampening if it has in-house electrical grid to traverse afterwards. The key word here is dampening function of these power surge units. Therefore you also need the fine protection for each precious unit at the electrical socket before your precious unit. Alternatively to a simpler surge protection unit you could go with a galvanized separation of the power, like a battery operated UPS. But it got to be a bit quality with being for instance online UPS. Or you could also get a power adaptor 120 Volt to 120 Volt that gives you galvanized separation instead. Because with a UPS it is the battery plus the built-in power surge that becomes the galvanized sep. plus dampening function. Many just buy a fine protection unit for there socket of a high quality. And hope that no wave gets through to your precious equipment. It is way better than no protection and then it is built around having the surge protection take the power surge and it may die before your precious equipment. But there is time and the wave behaviour to consider here. So a simple power surge unit might take the brunt of it but maybe not everything. Especially if the gear is super sensitive to taking damage. I'm not an expert. But you can choose: A. A heavier installation with coarseness stepping. Two or three steps to your liking. B. A UPS (universal power supply) of online true sinus curve specifications C. A power transformer, but maybe you need a fine power surge too here to block the wave as a second steo? I'm not sure D. Just go for the Power Surge unit and take the risk. But then place it near your equipment, and not just at your fuse box for the house Good luck
