Marissa : u need a draft excluder 4 your door. my grandma made a sausage dog for the bottom of the door, and pinned it in place with drawing pins.....it was made from recycled nylon stockings with holes in, 4 its stuffin :) xxx
Yes Miss Squeeze...ty for lletting Marisa know so we could all know..I'm 72 and got my first whole house declutter done from last June to this March 1st BUT can you believe I still find things every day! I must be obsessed.
I was honestly surprised she found so much because it looks pretty organized and decluttered already. but it just goes to show that decluttering really is an ongoing project.
Can I just say... I absolutely LOVE how pleased your husband looks when talking about giving his sister that necklace! Such a sweet moment, and you can tell how deeply he appreciates that he can give that gift to her :)
I want to compliment you on the echo. It is audible proof that you are a successful minimalist. No stuffy home would ever produce echoes. I find the sound very soothing since it means that there is space.
I always ask my (nearly 3-year old) son if he's ready to give his old toys to a smaller child. He's always happy to do so if he's truly outgrown a toy or a game. it's such a good skill to teach your kids.
I like that you don’t declutter toys for your kids, and instead involve them. Ten years ago when I started de-cluttering I had sent a bunch of toys to my sons class “swap meet”, and he came home very upset because some of his toys went to other people 😪 It was a big lesson for me to always include him and he feels so much better about letting go of things when it is not forced!
I’m am 59 and I live in the house I grew up in. It’s very small but it’s by a beautiful river and this will always be home. Ian fanatical about keeping anything or even pieces of anybody that remind me of my happy childhood or of my beloved mom and dad who passed away 5 and 17 years ago. I’m learning a lot from you! Thank you so much. I feel like I’m drowning in things. I’ve felt this way all of my life. I’m feeling excited about simplifying and being set free. I know it will be hard and emotional, but you are inspiring me to create a space where I can finally feel at peace. ❤😢❤😢❤😢😊😊😊😊
👏👏👏Brava! I'm also 70 years young and have decluttered my house over time and still do it. Life-changing and really helps me to focus with a clearer mind!
Marissa- I just got to say it: You are such a fantastic and wonderful human being. Your sense of compassion and caring is inspiring to me. Thank you for your channel and sharing your advice ❤🌻
❤️🤍💙 Greetings from the US 🌻 👏🏻 I've been watching decluttering & minimalist videos for 4 yrs & this is the most minimalist home I've seen yet!! ❤️ it - #goals #inspiration #motivation #lesscleaning #morefamilytime😍
I love your channel! This morning I had no intention of doing anything. But I turned on your video and it totally got me going on my re-decluttering. You are so right, when you get rid of all the extra stuff your home is SO much easier to maintain! I’m super lucky that my husband has bought into this way of life too! Thank you for your ongoing motivation!
@@AtoZenLife I just went and sorted my clothes lol All my clothes fit into 1 large drawer and my 2 toddlers clothing fits into 1 large drawer.. that's it I'm extremely minimal x
👏 Happy Birthday Miss Squeeze! My mom is in her 70s too, and she's been on a major declutter since Covid. Lots and lots of loads have gone to the Salvation Army.
I'm so excited to hear you're still trying to be car-free! It's one of the biggest ways my own family of 4 likes to be minimalist, even though we live in Los Angeles and almost no one believes me when I tell them we live here without a car 😱 Would you consider doing a video about how you live car-free as a family of 4? Challenges, advantages, how it fits with your own frugal and environmental minimalism, etc... It's something I wish more minimalists would talk about!
Never too old to sort stuff out, my own de-cluttering journey started when my husband lost his mum, she was a hoarder, the house was dreadful. We had tried so many times to help tidy it, but she would never let us throw anything away, I am sure that the clutter she had accumulated over a lifetime contributed to her mental deterioration. I vowed I would never do that to my children, leave so much stuff behind for them to have to sort through. I don't think he would even be able to comprehend what I mean by clutter, 350 jam jars in the cupboard under the stairs!!!! I also don't give family members or friends stuff of mine, unless they can actually use it. Otherwise you are just palming your clutter onto others. My mum as lovely as she is keeps giving me stuff of my Nan's because of the bad memories she has of her as a child, not an easy relationship, but I don't want or need the stuff!
When my kids were younger we used to do something similar called "Mad Dash Clean-up." We had a list of chores that everyone choose from and I'd set a 60min timer. One of the chores was "pick music" and someone would put something on the stereo we'd all listen to as we did our jobs (whether it was cleaning or decluttering) sometimes singing and dancing. It was so much fun and very satisfying. My kids are adults now, but to this day they do their own version of Mad Dash Clean-up, always to their favorite music, of course!
Thanks for the inspiration! I tend to be an all-or-nothing person, which means I tend to procrastinate. This reminds me how much I can get done in a short period of time.
Marissa, thank you for another inspirational and motivational video. Nice to see how you appreciated the kid's stuffed animals and the lived in feel they add to your family's space. It's been really neat to see how you've maintained your minimal lifestyle while adding visual interest to your home through accents, textures and a few select accessories over the years as you've made your house into a home. And not at all on topic- but wanted to say that you look lovely: so feminine, fresh and natural - love the look.
I love this quick decluttering video. I have been decluttering for six years and sometimes feel like I have nothing further to declutter, but I bet if I put 5 min timers in each room, I would still find so much to part with. Sometimes, when we overanalyze our items, we tend to create a story on why we still need them. I'm so doing this tomorrow morning! 😄
👏 I have been binge watching your channel for the past few days as a new subscriber. Thank you for keeping it real and showing us your thought process. I just retired and want to declutter my house so I don't have to clean/dust as much. I also don't want to leave a mess for my kids to have to deal with. In the past year and a half, we had to go through my mother-in-love's and mother's places. I miss them both, but my memories hold the most value about them, not their things.
Miss Squeeze, you go, gurl! I love the intention of 5 min in each room. I'd have to repeat that many many times to get things down to a dull roar, but 5 min is doable! Thanks again :)
In the UK, we have brush draught seals/excluders that are screwed onto the bottom of the door which have been very good at keeping any cold air from coming into my home from outside.
👏👏👏 the virtual claps are for all of us who are doing great in decluttering and saving time, energy in the process of clearing the items physically and mentally.
I would love to see a video of how much time/effort you have to spend daily tidying up, like what are your average day's chores? Also weekly. Not a declutter video, but the positive effects of decluttering in how simple it is to keep clean and maintained. Or, is it?
👏👏 way to go Ms. Squeezy and a very Happy 70th Birthday to you! I love the quick whole house run thrus. It's a good maintenance program to do on a regular basis. I was just able to donate 2 garbage bags, even though I thought I would not find much at all. And like you I have a small bin for things I find along the way.
Just did this. And it was so good hearing the timer and going through everything. I didn't know where to start so at least I feel like I have made some progress today!
👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 You’re a great inspiration Miss Squeeze! You’ve given me motivation to tackle my cluttered living room as well! Happy birthday 🎉🎈🎂 month as well! My mom is almost 73 and also strong and accomplishing new things every day.
Thank you for such an inspiring channel Marissa! I love that you are not only embracing a minimalist aesthetic, but also sustainable living, holistic health and conscious consumption. To see how your space and life has transformed from the first declutter is so motivational. You are helping people change their lives!
DOOR DRAFTS: 1.) Add door sweep to interior of front door bottom. Examine Threshhold to determine if threshold should be raised to reduce space between door and threshold without creating tripping hazard (i.e., can you ramp the threshold piece). Add weather stripping at sides and top of door jambs.. 2.) If odors continue to get through, make a fabric tube and fill with odor absorbing kitty litter or activated charcoal. Pick a fabric that will contain the dust from the contents. A pants leg from an outgrown pair of jeans might be cut and sewn into a tube that looks nice. Tube will fit better if it is slightly loosely filled so it conforms to the door to floor angle. Add loops on one or both ends so it can be hung from the interior handle when not in use. I have had really good results with small activated charcoal absorbing odors. A long draft stopper version is my next project. My condo building was built in 1924. Original doors. Already added sweeps and weather stripping but I am very sensitive to smoking odors and plan to try making an activated charcoal tube.
Just an idea, but if you wanted to hang your boys clothing up, you could buy a window bar that you twist to tighten and lower the shelf down and hang their clothes at the top of the cabinet and use the lowered shelf to keep anything else like pants folded! Love your minimalism videos. Love from Texas. 😊❤️
I just found you today and what to thank you for making the effort to help the refugees from Ukraine I am from Ukraine, living it’s the western part of it so we personally had opportunity to serve the refugees s well. May your family be blessed
Hi! 👏 I use the net (7:48) to put my masks to wash them in the washing machine. This way, I don't "loose" them in the clothes 😉. I just started decluttering and my goal was 1 hour to get rid of a lot of junk in the kitchen. I filled out 1 big garbage bag and got rid of a table. More space..yeah!!!🥳 I really love your videos! Thank you for the motivation✨✨
Hi. I only came across your channel today and I have to say I LOVE it. I’m about 5 years into my decluttering/minimalism journey and you’ve inspired me to go further. I think your home is beautiful and it really has given me something to aspire to. Keep up the good work and well done for acknowledging that not everyone will approve of our choices but the only opinions that matter are ours and our immediate family.
For MissSqueeze: 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌 and belated happy birthday wishes! I'm super grateful that she picked your pictures and video to share with us because I drag myself around here because having too much stuff is very depressing, and I thought that maybe because I'm older than 60 years old, that my age is the reason why I am having a hard time decluttering. But no... it is a spiritual disease. I can do this! You have proven that no matter our age, we can do it! I will read in the comments to find out whether or not you had help. I feel like I do need some help oh, but I am the only one who can decide what goes and what stays. So it may be something I have to do on my own. Again, thank you so much for sharing
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎉🎊🍾🥳🎈🎈🎊🎉Wow!!!! So proud of Ms. Squeeze!!! What a role model for us all!!!! Thanks so much darlings for being such a great positive group for minimalist newbies like myself!!!
🗂️ I have been going through some very heavy depression I'm so proud of myself for going through all of my paperwork it took 3 years for me to even be able to be in the same room with this mountain of paperwork but as of yesterday I was able to complete the last of it! And I just wanted to share that it felt so good you believe that the rest of my minimalism is possible. Thanks Marissa
👏 👏 Very Impressive Miss Squeeze! Happy Birthday! 🎂 I noticed recently that I hate to throw plastic away. Recycling solutions where I live are very limited. So I've been storing plastic bubble wrap, mailing pouches and plastic bags for quite a while. I 'googled' where to discard plastic responsibly and found a site that said my grocery store bag recycle will take this type of plastic. I hope it's accurate, my name and address is on the mailing pouches. 🤪 YIKES! I now have enough recyclable plastic to fill the trunk of my car. I need to take pictures because I forget how bad it was when I first began decluttering 15 months ago. I still have plenty to decluttered. My first pass through was enormous, but I still have so much more to go. It will probably take 3-5 years at the rate I'm going but it's vitally important to me to complete. I'm 69 years old last month, and I don't want to leave a legacy of 'crap' to my children to take care of when I'm gone. Thank You Marissa!
A recent fan of your work against clutter. Don't know how to do the clap emoji, so just want to say, LOVED THE TRANSFORMATION! to the 70 yr young person!
You can buy thin plates to glue/screw at the bottom of your door to close up the space. They are available with "hairs" or like a silicone lip. They seal nicely, we have about 3,5cm of space to fill under our door and there is a huge difference with or without. We use the rubber/silicone one. You can find them online or at a local but big "Baumarkt" (dont want to mention brands...) you glue/screw them a millimeter above the ground so that you can still open the door easily.
I have to thankyou. Ive got fibromyalgia & live in a 3 storey flat. I noticed you had a shopping cart that goes up stairs. Ive just bought one. Life saver xxx
I once had a stuffed snake that I used to block drafts under my door. It was gives to me as a gift by a friend. It was long and skinny and fit perfectly. It was washable and it was cute. Something like that would work and rest comfortably on the window sill when not in use.
I totally loveee the fact that the Rice is packed in a paper bag 😍 most of the time it’s plastic bulk bags. You are doing such a great job Marissa. Bless you and you family.
I am amazed at the amount of things you found to declutter! And, sentimental clothes (34:00 in the video) are a trap. So happy you have the pictures of both boys wearing the shirt. THAT is the sentimental hook. The shirt can be sent on for yet another picture :) Thank you for continuing to show us how little we need to have joy in our lives!
Thank you so much for this video! It has really helped me! It was simple and to the point. I think I will try that timer idea because I think it will help me stay focused and motivated
AMAZING!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! actually at 70 is a great time to take the bull by the horns! I'm 77 and cleared out over several trunk loads of "stuff " went from over 30 pairs of jeans to ZERO. For me the closets was an easy place to start. It's the family crysta,l china, silver that's impossible to clear.
